Kat ---

It turned out that Lily and Kat hadn’t been paranoid enough. The inside of the ’main’ greenhouse only had a further four guards inside of it, with two actively watching the door and the other two resting in chairs. Still ready to leap into action, but not AS ready. What they hadn’t expected was that the smattering of ’people’ working in the other greenhouses nearby were all illusions. Of course, just because they were all illusions didn’t mean there wasn’t still people watching. Where the illusions made it seem like gardeners were working on a few different greenhouses, the truth was that every single greenhouse had one person inside, watching the main building.

Two of them had an additional guard. In the first instance, the two guards were sitting around the table drinking, and from the behaviour, Kat could guess they were drinking alcohol. Kat couldn’t be sure that the two of them were meant to be there instead of just one, but she supposed when an illusion prevented others from working out if you were doing your job there was a chance for abuse. The second instance seemed like a more formal inquiry. A guard in slightly fancier looking armour was speaking with the second one in that greenhouse.

This complicated their plans massively. *

They only had to wait about five minutes. Though considering Kat was only using her eyes to check and not the rest of anything it was safer to turn back into mist for a minute or so before checking again. Once the fancy guard left, they gave him... or maybe her? Some time to leave. The fancy guard had heels on their shoes but nothing else to indicate their gender. The chest plate in particular seemed a bit tight for anyone with boobs, so perhaps it was a guy that liked heels?

Whatever the case, they waited for that guard to be well and truly gone before Lily snuck inside the greenhouse and knocked the guard out. She managed to do so quickly and quietly. Kat kept watch from the far side of the greenhouse, laying flat against the ground and only barely having her head sticking around the corner. She’d even gone so far as to turn her horns into water, though that was much harder then it should’ve been.

When the rest of the guards failed to notice the first going down they made their way through the rest of the outlying greenhouses one at a time. There were eight total they needed to get through and were planning to leave the drunks for last. Taking out two at a time might seem like the bigger risk... but Kat and Lily didn’t even know if they’d need to bother those two. Leaving them awake might be better...

Sadly, they must have missed something. Shortly after completing the fifth greenhouse, the two guards standing outside of the greenhouse had their heartrates spike. Something only Lily could hear, and only because she was keeping a figurative ear out for them in case they started to move. Kat looked into the greenhouse itself and noticed that the two sitting down had moved to be standing and looked far more ready for combat.

Kat gave a nod and then vanished into mist, plan already in place. She was going to take on the ’sleepy’ guard because he seemed the more potentially alert of the two. Kat floated over as a mist, and waited for Lily to start attacking the sixth guy on the edge. When the guard below her didn’t even twitch at that, Kat started to move. She reformed above his head, leg pulled back and already halfway through a kick.

Her foot slammed into the guards face. Worse for the guard, he’d instinctively turned to see what was going on, sensing the movement but clearly not thinking anyone would be so close nor that he’d get a boot to the face from it. Kat might’ve heard his neck crack from this, but she didn’t think she’d hit him that hard. He also wasn’t getting up when she transformed into water and flowed around to the other side.

The ’smoking’ guard was more ready, sword drawn and was making his way around to see what had happened. He was running... and not looking up. This gave Kat ample opportunity to repeat the same tactic. Though this time she only hit the guy in the back of the head. Still, the guard crumpled just the same, and Kat glanced inside. The guards still seemed on edge... but weren’t reacting otherwise? *

Kat didn’t know why they had barely moved, so she checked in with Lily. The sixth guard was down and she was making her way over to the seventh. Kat glanced around the greenhouse, thankful that everyone ’behind’ her had already been taking out. The two remaining greenhouses were at the front, and could definitely see inside if she took the door. Even still... Kat didn’t want to take too long. As a compromise, Kat waited those few precious seconds as Lily shot across the lawn to the next greenhouse and teleported inside.

Lily was dealing with the last proper guard. There were two more sure, but they hadn’t glanced at the commotion and were still draining their tankards. With that in mind, Kat move to the front, ready to rip open the door and start to fight. Only to find there was no handle. There... there was no door anymore either. Kat frowned as she swiftly circled the greenhouse, keeping her form demonic in case that mattered for truesight but... the door was just gone. The people inside didn’t seem more ready then they were before but... odd.

In the time it took for Kat to circle the greenhouse a few times and confirm that she wasn’t insane, and it hadn’t moved somewhere else was enough for Lily to knock out the other two. She’d gone for her standard ’choke them out’ strategy and unlike everyone else, those two guards didn’t even fight it. They just sort of fell forward unconscious before Lily had her shadows on them long. She still kept the shadows up for a bit longer just in case, and took the time to confirm they were still breathing afterwards... and tied them up as well. Just in case.

Kat didn’t have to wait long for her to finish tying up the last two guards and get to the door.
