Lan Yue froze solid under his attentive care. Her face slowly began to turn bright red all over again. Only this time... it had absolutely nothing to do with Su Qinglan’s teasing.
"I... I’m fine..." she stammered, quickly waving her hands in front of her chest to create some space. "You don’t have to help anymore. Really."
The hawk beastman finally let out a quiet, relieved breath after observing her closely and making sure she wasn’t actually hurt. "I’m glad. I thought you were injured from the impact."
Lan Yue secretly looked up at him through her lashes. He was so tall that she literally had to tilt her head all the way back just to meet his gaze.
For some strange reason, standing right beside his massive frame made her feel even smaller and more delicate than usual.
The hawk-beastman also quietly looked down at her. She had remarkably bright eyes, rosy cheeks from the biting cold, and a few stubborn snowflakes still clinging to her soft hair.
She looked... unexpectedly, incredibly adorable.
Suddenly realizing he had been staring at her for far too long, his expression tightened, and he immediately looked away to clear his throat. "...Sorry."
Lan Yue quickly shook her head, her heart thumping against her ribs. "N-No, it’s fine..."
The two of them suddenly fell into a tense, heavy silence. The cold winter wind blew gently between them, carrying the scent of pine, but neither of them knew exactly what to say next.
At that exact moment...
"Sister!"
"Wait for us! You run too fast!"
The loud, shouting voices of the three triplet brothers echoed from down the path behind them. Lan Yue suddenly snapped back to her senses, her inner thoughts jolting.
"Oh no..." She had completely forgotten that her brothers were still chasing her with their arms full of treasures.
She hurriedly stepped back, creating distance between herself and the tall hawk-beastman. "I-I’m really okay! Thank you for the help!"
Without waiting for him to reply, she quickly turned around on her heel and ran back toward the direction of her brothers’ voices.
The hawk-beastman stood entirely still in the snow, quietly watching her disappearing figure fade into the distance.
Only after she was completely out of sight did he slowly lower his gaze to his own hand.
Something remarkably soft and warm still lingered in his palm... the lingering sensation of holding her small hand when he had pulled her out of the snowdrift.
For some reason, a faint, uncharacteristic smile appeared on his lips as he turned back toward his path.
Everyone was still gathered closely around Xuan Long, completely captivated.
All of their attention remained fixed on the tiny white snake, who was simply too small and delicate.
Every now and then, she carefully peeked out from around Xuan Long’s large finger, but the moment too many eyes looked at her at once, she quickly hid herself away again.
No one noticed... that Xiao Yi, Xiao Er, and Mo Xiao Li had quietly disappeared from the hall. The three little troublemakers had already successfully sneaked away into the kitchen on their own secret food rescue mission.
Inside the main hall, everyone was busy discussing the new arrival.
"So... what should we name the little one?" Hu Yan asked with a warm smile, leaning over the table.
Han Jue nodded in agreement. "A beautiful little princess deserves an equally beautiful name."
Everyone began thinking seriously, throwing out ideas in their minds. Just then... Xiao San suddenly raised his little hand high in the air.
"I know!"
Everyone turned to look at him. The little fellow smiled brightly, his round face glowing with pride. "Yue Yue!"
The room became quiet for a moment.
"Yue Yue?" Su Qinglan repeated softly, tasting the name on her tongue.
Xiao San nodded his head excitedly. "Little Sister is just as pretty as Little Aunt Lan Yue! So I want to call her Yue Yue."
Everyone instantly understood his childlike logic.
Lan Yu’s name also contained a character that sounded like "Yue."
The little fellow simply thought his newborn sister was just as beautiful as his aunt, so he wanted them to share the beautiful sound.
Su Qinglan couldn’t help laughing softly. She reached out and gently pinched Xiao San’s chubby cheeks. "So... are you already smitten with your little aunt?"
Xiao San’s face instantly turned a bright, burning red.
"N-No!" he hurriedly shouted, shaking his little head.
Then, he quickly threw his arms around Su Qinglan, hugging her tightly. "Mommy is still the prettiest! You’ll always be Number One in my heart!"
Su Qinglan laughed so hard that her eyes curved into beautiful crescents. "You little sweet talker."
Beside them, Xuan Long quietly watched his son’s dramatic display.
A faint, rare smile appeared deep in his emerald eyes. It seemed... his son was much better with words than he ever was.
He gently patted Xiao San’s little head before speaking up.
"Then... we’ll call her Yue Yue. As her nickname." He looked down at the tiny white snake nestled against his skin.
"Yue means moon. Our little daughter is pure white, and her scales shimmer. She shines just like the moon. Our family’s little moon."
Everyone smiled warmly, thoroughly satisfied with the choice.
"I like it."
"It’s perfect for her."
"Little Yue Yue."
Hearing her new nickname spoken by so many voices, the tiny snake blinked her large, blue gemstone eyes. She quietly peeked out from behind Xuan Long’s finger again.
Seeing everyone smiling gently down at her, she became shy once more and quickly hid her tiny head back into the dark folds of his robe.
That adorable little action immediately melted everyone’s hearts into a puddle.
Hu Yan suddenly remembered something practical. He stood up and returned from the kitchen side a moment later, carrying the absolute tiniest feeding bottle in the entire house.
He carefully handed it over to Xuan Long. "She must be hungry after all that rushing around. Let her drink some warm milk."
Xuan Long nodded. Moving with extreme caution, he held the tiny bottle near Yue Yue’s head.
The little snake curiously sniffed the tip with her flicking tongue. Then, she slowly opened her tiny mouth and began drinking greedily.
Everyone watched the scene in a captivated, quiet huddle. Their hearts almost melted all over again.
"So tiny..."
"So cute..."
Su Qinglan couldn’t stop smiling as she watched her daughter eat. Then... she suddenly gasped and slapped her forehead.
"Oh!"
"I still have Xiao San’s newborn clothes!"
Everyone looked at her in surprise. She immediately stood up from her chair. "When Xiao San was born, I made many tiny, soft clothes for him. Yue Yue can wear them!"
She looked worriedly at her little daughter, anxiety creeping into her voice.
"It’s already the dead of winter. Our little Yue Yue is a snake beastman; she doesn’t even have fur to keep her warm. What if she gets cold?"
The more she thought about it, the more anxious and eager she became to protect her baby. "I’ll go get them right now!"
Without waiting for anyone to answer, Su Qinglan hurriedly turned and ran toward her bedroom to search the baskets.
