CLEAVER OF SIN Chapter 1240: Sorrow [Super Gift Bonus - ]

~5 minute read · 1,311 words

The box gave off a pale reddish-purple aura that could hardly be seen or sensed, but it was there, subtly detectable only by those powerful enough to perceive it.

Kraymar’s and Vellamira’s bodies trembled with excitement and mild reverence. They had searched for what seemed like eons for this very thing. They had searched for what felt like forever, yet it had been here in the Wargrave Secret Vault all along.

Vellamira’s left hand moved unconsciously towards the box, as she wanted to remove one of the talismans on it. But before she could, Kraymar immediately caught her wrist.

"We can’t remove the talismans here. If we do, the Crownstar Life Rankers will sense the sudden pressure and presence. While we may be able to kill them all quickly, one of them might be able to contact Azaron before we finish killing all of them."

He spoke, his tone cautious and somewhat heavy.

Vellamira seemed to return to her senses. Her eyes narrowed for a moment as she spoke.

"It seems even the arm alone is enough to bewitch me. My body moved of its own accord, as I obviously wouldn’t do something as stupid as removing the seals here. Besides, even if we did, removing the runes etched into the padlock would take us a year, maybe two, or thereabouts."

She explained calmly as she retracted her left hand.

Kraymar said nothing more and released Vellamira’s wrist. He believed she had been manipulated by the small aura surrounding the box, as he had felt the same mental intrusion, but he was immune to mental attacks.

’Even though it’s sealed, it’s still this powerful. We have to be careful when removing even a single seal.’

He thought to himself.

This was the second reason for the War: to retrieve this sealed arm. An arm that the Ancestor of the Wargrave had taken nineteen thousand years ago after the First True War.

Vellamira snapped her fingers, and a glass container with exactly the same shape and dimensions as the sealed box appeared midair, just above it. The glass descended onto the box, and the moment it made contact, the box vanished, with the glass disappearing in tandem, leaving nothing on the table.

"Let’s move."

Kraymar stated as he immediately turned away. He nodded at the Undead Wargrave Dark Knight, opened the black gate once more, and allowed her to leave.

Together, Kraymar and Vellamira walked out of the Secret Vault, taking nothing else with them. With a boom, the door closed behind them as they stepped out.

The moment they stepped out, the vault closed behind them, and Vellamira removed the Astra Energy seal around Yveric’s corpse.

From the spiral staircase at the side, which led down from above, a figure stepped forward, her eyes cloaked in Astra Energy so she could see through the darkness that consumed the underground space.

It was Vice Commander Cassandra.

She had only come here to check on the Commander and give a report update.

The moment she stepped into the underground space, she froze in utter shock. Her eyes fell upon two presences she hadn’t even sensed until she laid eyes on them.

Her head whipped towards the side, where her Commander lay with a hole in his chest and a pool of blood beneath him.

For the first time in a while, Cassandra froze in absolute shock. She didn’t know how to react as various emotions surged through her in that moment, her mind going completely blank.

She wasn’t the only one who was stunned. Kraymar and Vellamira hadn’t expected anyone else to arrive. But in the next split second, they regained their composure.

They had already gotten what they came here for, and besides, this was just the Vice Commander, who was still at the Soulstar Life Rank.

Cassandra didn’t hesitate for more than a second. Her body and mind snapped into action as she shot towards Vellamira and Kraymar, her Astra Energy surging as she aimed for their necks with her chakrams in hand.

She didn’t know what Sinvairas were, as only Crownstar Life Rankers knew about them. She simply assumed they were Emovirae.

But even then, her subconscious told her they were stronger than her. After all, these two had assassinated the Knight Commander without anyone even noticing anything unusual or hearing anything.

Should she simply stand and watch them leave just because they were stronger?

These people had killed the Knight Commander. Standing like a statue and watching them leave was no different from treason.

Astra Energy hummed from Kraymar’s body, sealing off sound and everything else from escaping the basement. His bony finger stopped the attack aimed at his neck. There was no compressed shockwave, no sound wave, nothing at all, as the man had tanked the entire attack with a single finger.

Vellamira, for her part, simply did the same. While she might have enjoyed her time with Yveric, Cassandra was still a weakling. She wasn’t there yet.

She was like a meal on the fire, not yet ready to be served or eaten.

Cassandra refused to give up, anger and rage consuming her mind. She was about to use her Injury Manifestation ability, but before she could, she was immediately pinned to the ground as her knees slammed against the earth under Vellamira’s Gravity Manipulation.

"Why do you Humans love acting on emotions?"

Kraymar couldn’t help but ask as he shook his head with a tired sigh.

Even when Orvak died, although they had been angry and furious, they hadn’t acted on their emotions, choosing instead to remain behind the scenes.

Malrik was definitely going to pay, they already had plans for him in place.

Vellamira squatted and patted Cassandra on the head as she spoke.

"Go take care of your Knight Commander, Cassandra. And next time, don’t attack people knowing they are stronger than you. If it weren’t for me, this bony guy would have killed you already."

She gave a small smile, as though advising a naive child. She stood once more and snapped her fingers as a portal opened. Stepping through it, they both vanished as the increased gravity disappeared.

Cassandra didn’t waste any time. She turned and rushed towards Yveric. She knelt beside his corpse, her hands trembling as they reached forward, tears falling from her eyes and rolling down her cheeks before hitting the ground.

"Mas...ter..."

She called out weakly, her voice broken, her heart and mind filled with nothing but pain.

Although Knight Commander Yveric had never taken her as his personal disciple, he had still trained her to become the next Knight Commander, and she considered him her Master.

She held him in an embrace as her cries of sorrow filled the air. His blood stained her body and armor, but she didn’t care as she continued holding him while remaining on her knees.

"Ple...plea...se... co...com...e... b..a..a...ck"

"Please...."

She begged in a muffled voice as her tears fell upon Yveric’s corpse.

Yveric was practically a family member to her.

A mentor. A father. A Grandfather.

She looked up to him and had imagined the days when he would be there to congratulate her when she finally became the Knight Commander. She had dreamed of filling his shoes and carrying out her duties just as he had.

She had dreamed of serving the Wargraves for centuries, just like her Master.

Yet... it had all been taken from her.

She, who called herself the killer of all who dared oppose the Wargraves, now felt like a joke, as two beings had opposed the Wargraves and left in style.

"P..le..a..plea..please.."

She sobbed in sorrow.
