Chronicles of Forgotten Extra Chapter 367: Since Waiting for a Heroic Opportunity Didn’t Work, We Decided to Make One Ourselves.

"So, for now, let’s wait for the perfect bait. I have a good feeling we’ll find someone soon."
Or at least that was what Alden had confidently declared an entire week ago but reality had been far less cooperative just like his damned luck.
The road was simply too damn peaceful. Traveler after traveler passed through the route but almost none of them encountered enough trouble to justify stepping in.
For an entire week, Alden and Aemirya remained hidden within the forest, patiently waiting for the perfect opportunity but finding an easy target, however was far easier said than done.
Hell, just yesterday, they had even tried approaching a passing merchant caravan, hiding their ranks and pretending to be unfortunate travelers who had barely escaped a monster attack.
The merchants had looked at the two of them once and called them "barbaric forest bastards" and burst into laughter before driving away.
Aemirya had nearly incinerated the entire caravan with her dragon breath and even Alden had barely managed to stop her because the last thing he wanted was to start an international incident before they had even crossed the kingdom’s border.
But after wasting an entire week even his patience had finally reached its limit. If they continued waiting like this, they would never make it to the kingdom.
Which meant, it was finally time to take matters into their own hands. Just then, Aemirya descended from the sky in her hybrid form, two white wings folded neatly behind her as she landed beside him.
"How was it?"
Alden asked eagerly.
Aemirya’s expression was filled with annoyance but she answered nonetheless.
"A merchant caravan is approaching from the east. It’s smaller than the previous one but they have two Expert-Rank guards accompanying them. So, even if the few orcs wandering across the route attack, they won’t be in enough danger for us to step in as heroes."
A grin slowly spread across Alden’s face.
"But what if the entire tribe attacked them at once?"
Aemirya’s lips curled into a matching smile.
"So are we finally doing it?"
Alden nodded without hesitation.
"Yeah, we don’t have any other choice left anymore but still suppress your strength to Master Rank first. If they realize how strong we really are, it will only make things unnecessarily complicated."
Aemirya nodded in understanding.
Among humans, talent had always been relatively scarce. Reaching the Ascendant Rank itself was considered quite an achievement but reaching it before the age of thirty was considered the mark of an unparalleled genius.
According to common belief, only races such as dragons or demons could accomplish such a feat with ease.
As for reaching the Overlord Rank...
Even dragons often required decades.
If she and Alden, both not even twenty-five by human standards, revealed that they had already reached the Ascendant Rank, they would attract suspicion far more readily than admiration.
So concealing their true strength was the obvious choice. Still, the young man standing beside her never failed to leave her wondering.
She knew almost nothing about his past. When they had first met, Damien had shrugged and said he didn’t remember much but after spending so much time with him, she had come to realize something.
He certainly lacked knowledge about many things but he definitely wasn’t someone who had lost his memories.
But she didn’t ask and honestly she didn’t need to either because if Damien ever wanted to tell her, he would and until then, she was ready to wait.
"So, let’s get ready. You head over to the orc camp and pressure them with your presence and make sure they flee toward the caravan. Once they are on the verge of being wiped out, we will step in."
He spoke as if rehearsing a plan they had already discussed dozens of times.
"One last thing. You still remember our story, right? We are a young couple who ran away from the Kingdom of Qurovan because our families opposed our marriage. While escaping, we were ambushed by bandits who stole almost everything we owned. So now we are wandering without money, connections or even proper identification."
Although they had gone over the story countless times over the past week, Aemirya still nodded but honestly, she couldn’t understand why it always had to be this particular story.
But Damien insisted it was the most believable story they could tell. According to him, humans were surprisingly sympathetic toward young lovers who had run away together and not only would they believe it, they would often go out of their way to help.
They had even settled on Qurovan because it existed in the distant southwest, one of the most isolated human kingdoms and very few people from the central kingdoms knew much about it.
"So, let’s do this."
Without another word, two brilliant white wings unfolded from Aemirya’s back as she shot into the sky, heading toward the orc settlement.
At the very same time, Alden disappeared into the forest below, making his way toward the approaching merchant caravan.
It took her only a few minutes of flying at full speed before the mountain came into view and nestled at its base was a sprawling orc settlement where hundreds of the mindless creatures roamed between crude wooden huts.
Without the slightest hesitation, Aemirya released a mere fraction of the innate authority possessed by all dragons.
Dragon’s Fear.
It was an ability that preyed on the instinct themselves and against beasts that relied more on instinct than reason, its effects were even more overwhelming.
The moment the orcs sensed that draconic presence, chaos erupted throughout the entire settlement as panicked roars echoed in every direction and without a single command from their chief, the entire tribe fled as one, straight toward the road where the merchant caravan was slowly making its way.
Watching the stampede unfold exactly as planned, Aemirya gave a satisfied nod before she spread her wings once more and flew toward the caravan herself.
