Chronicles of Forgotten Extra Chapter 357: Where the System Could Not Reach(The Core of Limitless Ascension and Abyssal Soul)

Running had its limits, especially when being chased by two enraged monsters with nearly endless stamina and both Alden and Aemirya understood that well.

Although they had managed to maintain some distance, they both knew one thing.

They couldn’t keep running forever.

Especially Alden.

Unlike Aemirya, he was completely human or at least that’s what his body suggested since he didn’t know if his parents were humans.

He had been running nonstop for the last hour and his exhausted muscles were finally catching up to him. If he pushed himself any further, not only would they be caught, but by then he would be too tired to even attempt a fight.

"What should we do?"

He asked Aemirya, who was still fuming about the whole situation.

"How the hell did you even manage to make them work together? They are prideful enough to tear each other apart, and yet they are working together... you must have done something truly terrible."

Alden thought back on his situation for a moment.

"Look here, lady, we are not in a situation to dwell on the past right now. Let bygones be bygones and think of a proper plan, shall we?"

Alden quickly averted the topic.

Aemirya wasn’t convinced by his attempt, but she decided to let it go for now. Instead, she looked back at her cousins.

Vareth and Valerie.

Vareth was the son of her oldest uncle while Valerie was the daughter of her second aunt. Both were considered formidable for their age and because of that constant comparison both had almost never exchanged a proper conversation in years.

They hated each other almost as much as they hated her. So seeing them work together was surprising, but... She knew dragons were never great at working with others.

She herself, despite being only half-dragon, was arrogant and she knew pure dragons were even worse and how much they despised cooperation.

She glanced at the boy beside her.

"Although they are working together in their anger, their coordination would be a mess. A complete mess. They hate each other too much to truly cooperate, so if we can trigger that hatred and make them turn on each other..."

Her eyes narrowed slightly.

"There may be a way out."

Alden thought about it for barely a moment before nodding.

"Alright, I will take that prince, you take that princess. I have a plan, just keep her above and some distance away from Vareth."

The decision was made within seconds, and Aemirya nodded as well.

With that, Alden immediately turned, his Sword of Chaos already in hand as he channeled mana through it.

Meanwhile, Aemirya transformed into her dragon form and immediately fired a Dragon Breath at Valerie, separating her from Vareth.

Vareth barely spared her a glance before firing his own Dragon Breath at Alden.

Alden took a deep breath, his sword perfectly still as he channeled Eclipse Mana into it, preparing to unleash the third step of his weapon art.

Eclipse Fang.

The deep crimson flames came within inches of him.

But he didn’t move. Nor did he unleash his attack. Instead, at that very moment, he reached deep within his soul, calling upon an effect of his Supreme Ability that he rarely used. Not because it was weak but because he had never needed it and because most of his opponents had always been of a higher rank, making that effect unusable most of the time.

Abyssal Soul.

Back when he still had the status window, it had some strange description and a percentage attached to it. Alden had never understood what it meant but using it back then had been simple.

All he had needed was will.

Now, without the system, he had spent countless days trying to understand it. At first it had been difficult but slowly he had grown accustomed to the feeling.

He focused as everything slowed down immediately.

Once again, he entered the soul space he had always visited whenever he completed his Chaos Trials.

The soul space was where his Supreme Ability resided as well and within his soul space floated a small black hole, almost invisible in darkness.

Through countless days of training, he had come to understand that small black hole was the actual door to his Supreme ability.

He reached toward it as his soul space trembled and then, he was pulled into an endless expanse of void. Crimson water covered the ground, reaching his knees, while above him hung seven brilliant orbs of different colours nearby, each appearing as large as the sun itself in comparison to him.

This was the true core of his Supreme Ability.

What existed within his outside soul palace was merely a manifestation of it.

And those seven orbs...

They were the effects of his Supreme Ability.

The green orb represented his Spirit Domain. The yellow orb represented the Monarch of Mana. The red orb was his Traumatic Inheritance. The grey orb was Limit Break, though it had been lost when Asura granted him his inheritance, that’s why it was grey. The golden orb represented the Inheritance of Asura had given him. The blue orb was his Eye of Supreme.

And the remaining two black orbs were something... He had no idea about, they were probably something he hadn’t even unlocked them yet.

As for the crimson water beneath his feet, it represented Limitless Growth.

While the endless void itself,

was Abyssal Soul.

He had never needed to enter this place before because back then, the system had conveniently done everything for him and pulled the effect from the small manifestation which existed outside.

But only after spending so long training and finally reaching this place did he realize just how much of a disadvantage that convenience had been and how much more his Supreme Ability could do.

The system had taught him how to use his power but it had never taught him how to understand it.

He focused on the space as the water started shaking beneath his feet before a burst of reddish-black energy erupted from Alden.

All three dragons froze for a brief moment, instinctively terrified to even move as the strange energy swallowed the Dragon Breath that had been mere inches from Alden’s face without leaving behind a trace.

Within his Abyssal Soul, Alden could see the Dragon Breath had appeared as a tiny star beside the seven orbs which represented his effect. He could feel it was dissipating slowly but it was there, ready to be unleashed once before it would dissipate completely.

Everything happened within mere seconds and as he opened his eyes, he saw the stunned faces of Vareth, Valerie and even Aemirya.

He didn’t waste the opportunity.

The Eclipse Fang he had been charging all this time finally descended.

"Third Step—Eclipse Fang—The Slash That Consumes Certainty!"

He swung his sword, bursting mana at perfect intervals and unleashing Ruinous Severance alongside it.

The air shifted slightly and for a moment, nothing happened then a massive shockwave erupted.

Vareth saw no attack but his instincts screamed as he tried twisting his massive draconic body at the last moment but even then, the tip of his wing was sliced cleanly away.

Gravity did the rest as Vareth spiraled downward before crashing into the ground but the injury was far too shallow to deal any significant damage.

Alden knew that well while his own body and mana were already rebelling from the strain.

A smile appeared on his face and he lunged toward where Vareth had fallen, while the battle between Aemirya and Valerie continued in the sky.
