"Our great ancestor, the Venerable of our race, has created many arts! Here, I was going to give you this another day, one day we could be together, but I suppose... if you were that desperate, you should’ve just said so," Blank said while holding out a carefully prepared scroll.
"Huh?" Elayne was clearly surprised. "Wow, thank you Blank!"
Mark was left completely speechless. He possessed neither such amazing intelligence nor any refined methods that could teach Elayne something truly valuable. Meanwhile the White Ghost had both the knowledge and the power to help her grow far beyond her current level all on his own...
Naturally, he felt frustrated and deeply disappointed in himself. Ignias noticed his soul flickering unsteadily and quickly floated to his side.
"Master, what’s wrong? Don’t be discouraged! That idiot white ghost doesn’t compare to your flames!" Ignias insisted, trying to cheer up Mark.
"Thank you, Ignias, but I guess my methods just aren’t that compatible with hers. I wish I could connect more with her and teach her things she didn’t know before, but she’s usually incompatible with the things I understand best," Mark said, lamenting that he felt lacking in some areas himself.
"Are you sure about that?" Ignias asked, flying to him.
"Huh?" Mark looked at her blazing spirit form.
Ignias smiled brightly and appeared by his side in the form of a cute little pixie made entirely of fire. "Don’t you remember? When she called forth those ’Zodiac Gods’ or whatever they were? She created totems! And who’s amazing with totems?"
"Me!" Mark gasped as the realization hit him. "Totems, right! But they were always skills. I did learn a lot about them in real life later on but... ah, no, I cannot allow myself to be discouraged. Why didn’t I think of this sooner? I should carve totems inside of my own soul and body too...! I must turn my entire skeleton, my wood, and my armor into living totems!"
"Yes!" Ignias nodded enthusiastically. "You might not remember the formulas very well anymore, but I do. They were all imprinted on me back then... here!"
Ignias helped Mark by forming a scroll made of pure fire and offering it to him.
"Thank you, Ignias. You’re really an amazing partner!"
"Heheheh! Praise me more! I know I am amazing, hehe!"
As she chuckled with open pride, Mark began reading the fiery scroll and attempting to relearn various formulas, methods, and deeper knowledge about totems.
However...
That was only what he wished would happen.
"Uh, Ignias, this is not easy to understand at all," he sighed after a few moments of struggle.
"Eh?" Ignias wondered in confusion. "W-What do you mean— Woah?!"
To her complete shock, the scroll she had created was nothing more than a messy collection of rough sketches and completely incomprehensible letters.
It turned out Ignias did not actually know how to write properly.
"I-I... hahah... maybe I should just pass it to you through memories instead," she chuckled nervously and awkwardly. "Let’s connect!"
Ignias entered Mark’s skull without further delay and began carefully transplanting old memories into his soul, slowly helping him remember many important things he had long forgotten.
Meanwhile, Elayne settled down and began reading the scroll Blank had given her. Everyone else explored the surroundings now that the monsters had been defeated. They searched carefully for any signs of people who might have been trapped in this place.
Elayne already knew about the [White Ghostly Mist Consciousness Method] that dealt with the mind and part of the soul’s cultivation.
But what Blank had given her was something completely different.
[White Spectral Body Reformation Method – Initial Stage]
"Will this really work with me?" Elayne raised an eyebrow in doubt. "I’m not sure, Blank... it says it only works on your people."
"I saw it," he said calmly.
"Eh?" She met his bright eyes, and both of them looked at one another for several quiet seconds.
"Elayne, when you called forth the stars like a goddess, your form shifted, didn’t it?" he asked.
"Ah! Right!" she nodded as the memory returned.
She recalled using the Circle of Constellation Druidic Skills once again.
How she called forth the mighty strength of a Zodiac Constellation into her body.
How she forged that power into her soul.
How she solidified it into a totem and then turned her entire body into that form.
In that moment when she transformed into a being of pure starlight, an embodiment of the stars, an avatar of a Zodiac Constellation...
She had become completely ethereal.
"It’s not exactly the same, but it is similar?" she wondered aloud. "Wait, you’re suggesting I build upon my existing skills then?"
"What’s a better way than to do exactly that?" he asked with quiet confidence. "Turn your Skills into Cultivation Methods, Elayne. That way, even if one day this System decides to take everything away from us, you will still be able to keep what you have learned through your own effort."
"Right!" Elayne nodded with growing excitement. "Wow Blank, you’re a genius. Why didn’t I think of that myself?"
"Hahah, of course I am," he said with a gentlemanly nod. "This method does indeed only work on my race under normal circumstances. But if you cultivate it while shifting into that starlight form again, not only will you master it and understand its principles... once you completely reach grand perfection, a new method could be born, or a combination of both the skill and the cultivation method. What’s more, there’s another possibility. You could completely change, reinforce, or even evolve how your body works at its core, permanently fusing that starlight form into your base body."
