Being A Shrew to My Ex-Husband After Our Divorce Chapter 413 - Lan Jian Assists

Lan Jian and the others remained unaware that Su Yan had been going through a difficult time recently. Ever since Wei Zhou vanished entirely from her existence, an initial indifference slowly gave way to a peculiar emptiness in her heart. She found herself particularly averse to idleness, as any unoccupied moment inevitably led her thoughts back to Wei Zhou. Memories of their forced kiss at the boxing gym that night would surface, along with a myriad of other small moments shared since their first encounter.
Despite being married to Wei Zhou for three years, enduring that period of hardship and injustice, and ultimately divorcing him, she had never experienced such a complete severance of contact. The sight of the man she had loved since she was a young girl was now entirely absent from her life.
Su Yan herself couldn't quite pinpoint the reason for her current state. Her focus had waned considerably in all her endeavors, even during important meetings. Whenever she listened to her executives' work reports, it felt as though her spirit had detached from her body. Noticing this, Wang Xiaoxue expressed concern, suggesting a medical examination, suspecting a potential health issue.
..
Within the opulent villa of the Wei family.
After a persistent half-hour of knocking, the door was finally opened by Wei Zhou. Despite the open windows allowing for some airflow, the moment Lan Jian stepped into the living room, he was assaulted by a pervasive smell of smoke and recoiled, covering his nose. “Damn it, Ah Zhou, are you trying to kill yourself? You’re smoking this heavily indoors?”
Wei Zhou suppressed the urge to lash out at him. “If you have something to say, just say it!”
Lan Jian casually approached the coffee table, his gaze falling upon the collection of empty wine bottles and scattered cigarette butts. He sighed, shaking his head. “You, you, you just got dumped. Do you really need to wallow in such despair?”
Wei Zhou shot him a glare, preparing to retort. Lan Jian quickly interjected with a smile, “Alright, let’s get down to business. Tell me, did you actually tell Su Yan you wished her happiness that day? As your good friend, I have to say, perhaps you spoke a bit too soon. Why don’t you take a look at this first before you definitively decide if you truly want to let go?”
With that, Lan Jian presented a file. Upon hearing it concerned Su Yan, Wei Zhou’s heart ached anew. He took the file and began to examine its contents.
Several minutes later, Wei Zhou’s eyebrows shot up in surprise. “Where did you obtain all of this information?”
Lan Jian nervously rubbed his nose. “I sensed this wasn't as straightforward as it seemed, so I enlisted the help of someone knowledgeable to investigate. If Su Yan were involved with Xia Zijian, I wouldn't find it particularly odd, given their prior acquaintance. However, Yue Chuang’s sudden appearance, and Su Yan even traveling to Xiang City to meet his parents – that strikes me as highly peculiar. Based on everything I know, Su Yan doesn't strike me as the type to rush into marriage. Especially after her previous failed marriage with you, she should be far more cautious in such matters.”
Continuing, Lan Jian settled onto the sofa. “It’s fortunate I had someone look into this; otherwise, we’d have remained completely in the dark. It turns out the daughter of the Yue family who was kidnapped years ago was named Yue Longyue, and she is Su Yan’s biological mother. Yue Longyue was adopted by a couple who were unable to conceive. I even have photographs of Yue Longyue. Su Yan bears a strong resemblance to her mother, though she appears even more like Old Madam Yue.”
As Lan Jian spoke, Wei Zhou meticulously sifted through the documents. The file contained several old photographs and a substantial amount of newly acquired information, which Lan Jian had promptly delivered upon finding it suspicious.
Su Yan shared a striking resemblance with Old Madam Yue, a stark contrast to the imprisoned Liu Yuhuan. Wei Zhou’s gaze flickered between the documents and the photos. He could confidently swear that since the very first beat of his heart, this moment marked the most rapid and intense pulsation he had ever experienced.
After a significant pause, Wei Zhou finally lifted his head and met Lan Jian's eyes. For the first time in three months, a genuine smile graced his features. “Lan Jian, thank you.”
Lan Jian stood there, taken aback. Before he could even process the change, Wei Zhou had already snatched his car keys and bolted out the door, moving with a frantic, almost crazed, energy. Lan Jian watched him go, a bewildered expression on his face. “Hey, Ah Zhou, where are you rushing off to? It’s already midnight!”
Wei Zhou, with rare brevity, replied, “I’m going to find Su Yan.”
After a moment’s thought, Lan Jian declared, “It’s this late… I won’t head home. I’ll just stay here tonight.”
Wei Zhou’s only response was, “Whatever you wish.”
His mind was consumed by thoughts of Su Yan, his excitement reaching a fever pitch. He urgently sought to locate her and confront her about the matter, completely disregarding Lan Jian's whereabouts or sleeping arrangements.
Witnessing his friend's blatant disregard, Lan Jian let out a mocking laugh, chiding, "Heh, you truly prioritize your lover above your friend, don't you?"
