Charles proposes a fusion of souls with Su Ping to become the Netherworld God and conquer the galaxy. He claims this will grant them eternal life and immense power, while also offering Su Ping a share of future Heavenly Tombs. Su Ping questions Charles's motives, but Charles insists that Su Ping is the only one capable of this union and that the Celestial Tomb Mark will torment him if he refuses. He reveals that Su Ping only needs to give up his mortal flesh to merge his soul with the Sword of Death.

“Condition? What condition?” Charles looked at him.

Su Ping didn’t hesitate in the slightest. “I know that since you were able to project your soul mark here from Eagle Country, you must have an excellent understanding of the situation within the Heavenly Tomb and possess a certain degree of control over it. Therefore, before I enter this Sword of Death, you must release everyone else currently trapped in this Soul Furnace of yours. At the same time, you need to transport my body and Paperman’s body over here.”

Charles wasn’t surprised by this at all; instead, he smiled. “Su Ping, once you enter the Sword of Death and merge with Lord Netherworld God’s power and partial soul consciousness, you will also be able to control all this through the sword and his residual power. There’s no need for me to intervene.”

Su Ping shook his head decisively. “No. I have no idea how long this merging process will take. If it takes too much time, those people won’t be able to hold on! I can’t take that risk. Lord Charles, if you can do this, we can proceed. If not, then forget it.”

Charles frowned, not because the condition was particularly troublesome. “Su Ping, your flaw is that you care too much about these inferior people. More often than not, you must make sacrifices to gain something. What does it matter if these people live or die?”

He quickly followed up with a chuckle. “But that’s fine. Once you experience it for yourself and truly understand the might of this power, you’ll get it. Compared to such power, those souls—born only to serve as kindling—are like crops to be harvested, batch after batch. Still, forget about that kindling; your pet beast and your physical body do indeed need to be preserved. Very well.”

At this point, the flame between Charles’s brows instantly began burning once more. The fierce, ashen flame blazed so intensely that the entire space seemed to tremble in response.

Sure enough, Su Ping’s guess was right. If Charles had truly merged with the Netherworld God’s soul as he claimed, his control over this Heavenly Tomb space far exceeded Su Ping’s expectations. He could indeed activate certain abilities to manipulate its interior.

Within the dim space, the endless gray mist continued to swirl. In this eternal Land of Death, deep within the Soul Furnace, several figures formed a tight circle around a single person in their center.

Su Ping remained seated there, his eyes vacant and lifeless. The other members of the Heavenly Tomb Army had summoned their pet beasts to guard the perimeter. It seemed the vast gray mist sensed the concentration of living beings in this area, causing the undead to emerge here in overwhelming numbers.

A trace of anxiety flickered in Li Feng’s eyes, accompanied by an icy stiffness creeping into his heart—a sensation he was acutely aware of. Even for him, the spiritual corruption was already incredibly severe, let alone for the rest of the people present.

Take Zhu Linxin, for example. At this point, he couldn’t offer any help at all. In fact, if they hadn’t tied him up tightly and forced him to recall his pet beast into his Beast Taming Space beforehand, he probably would have already wandered over to the stele and become one of its pitch-black Sword Souls.

However, as time ticked by, this condition was no longer unique to Zhu Linxin; some of the other Heavenly Tomb members were showing the same symptoms. Their sluggish movements and the way their gazes kept drifting toward the dark stele filled Li Feng with dread.

Yet, what truly unsettled Li Feng was Su Ping, whose soul had departed. After all, Li Feng was already prepared for his own death. As members of the Legion—and a unit executing such a terrifying mission at that—they had long since accepted that they might not make it out alive.

But Su Ping wasn’t one of them!

Su Ping was not only Instructor Su’s son, but also the future of the Dragon Nation. He was the country’s most talented Breeder with the brightest future ahead of him—a genius highly regarded even by the Holy Dragon. If such an existence were to die here, Li Feng would never find peace, even in death.

At that thought, Li Feng couldn’t help but glance at Su Ping’s physical body. Regret gnawed at his heart. He truly regretted letting Su Ping leave. Given how dangerous the situation was, they should have been the ones to test the waters first, no matter what. But now, it was too late to say anything.

All he could do was continue waiting in this dark, desolate Land of Death. He would wait forever, until even he lost control, stumbled before that dark stele, and transformed into a remnant soul, gone for good.

Perhaps the only silver lining was that, over the past short while, a few other Heavenly Tomb members had been lucky enough to find their way here. Navigating the sprawling network of newly carved tunnels, they had managed to rendezvous with the group.

However, just as he and all the other Heavenly Tomb squad members braced themselves for the worst, a pitch-black vortex slowly materialized in this eerie, mist-shrouded wasteland.

The vortex appeared so abruptly that no one had time to react. In the blink of an eye, it positioned itself directly above the heads of Su Ping and the Paperman resting in his arms. The very next second, it vanished without a trace.

Before Li Feng and the others could even process what had happened, an indescribable soul tremor surged violently through everyone’s minds.
