Mother Qi, seemingly injured by a fall and trying to get compensation, tricked Bodyguard Ding into leaving her side. She then confronted a young boy and his older brother, intending to extort money from them. However, the situation turned when she was lured into a van and abducted.

Cheng Su pressed on her right eyelid and shook her head, just feeling ill at ease, like something had happened.

"Are you tired? How about we call it a day?" Zhan Qin saw how worn out she looked and spoke up.

These days they’d been busy dealing with this hotel construction project proposal, the documents on hand stacked one pile after another, so it was normal for Cheng Su to be exhausted.

"Not really, I just feel a bit unwell." Cheng Su glanced at the time on her watch; it was already time to get off work. She needed to go back and see how Xiao Qi was doing at the Cheng family home, so she said, "Let’s stop here for today and pick it up again tomorrow!"

Zhan Qin nodded. "You go first, I’ll take another look at this proposal."

Cheng Su smiled. "Thanks for the hard work. You head back early and get some dinner too."

She picked up her leather bag and went out. Seeing that she was leaving, the two bodyguards hurriedly followed. Zhan Qin watched through the glass window, shook his head, and buried himself back into the proposal in front of him.

Back at the Cheng family home, Xiao Qi was playing chess with the old master. Seeing her come in, he waved her over.

Cheng Su walked over, greeted the old master and Fei Yin first, then looked at the chessboard. "How’s the game going? Godfather, you’re something else—Xiao Qi doesn’t even know how to play, and you’re still acting all serious like this."

From an angle the old master couldn’t see, Qi Xiaoqi pulled a wry face, which made Cheng Su laugh uncontrollably.

"Don’t say that. It looks like he’s just randomly placing pieces, but Xiao Qi’s moves are really giving me a headache!" The old master glared at the board and said.

Fei Yin, holding a book about weapons and flipping through it, said from the side, "Don’t look at me, I don’t understand Chinese chess. Even if I stare at it, it won’t help."

Cheng Su cast a glance at Qi Xiaoqi. He put on a very innocent look, as if to say, this has nothing to do with me.

The old master raised his head to look at Cheng Su and said, "Done with work? With Xiao Qi here with us, you can rest easy. No random cat or dog would dare barge in and snatch anyone, and there’s Instructor Fei here too. Just focus on your work; the child will eat well, sleep well, and live well."

He was treating Qi Xiaoqi completely like his own biological grandson.

Cheng Su responded, and seeing how quiet the house was, she asked, "Where are Xiao Ya and Beibei?"

"She took Beibei back to her mother’s place. The in‑laws miss their granddaughter!" Sister-in-law Cheng came over carrying a tray and said, "Here, have a bowl of sweet soup first. It’s already August, I stewed snow fungus with pear to moisten the lungs."

Cheng Su sat down and asked, "Was it because Xiao Qi was too noisy and Beibei couldn’t rest?"

Qi Xiaoqi glared over. Was he the kind of kid who makes a racket?

Seeing his expression, Sister-in-law Cheng took it as him being wronged and quickly pulled him into her arms to comfort him. "Your mom’s being bad, she’s not talking about you!" Then she glared at Cheng Su and said teasingly, "Xiao Qi is the most well‑behaved kid, how would he be noisy? It really is just that the in‑laws missed the child."

Cheng Su chuckled.

They were chatting and laughing when they suddenly noticed some commotion at the front gate and all looked over.

It was a few bodyguards. Cheng Su caught a glimpse of Bodyguard Ding’s panicked expression, and her face tightened slightly. She instinctively put down the sweet soup in her hand.

"Hey, isn’t that Bodyguard Ding who’s usually with the old lady? He’s here—where’s the old lady?" Fei Yin had seen him too.

Qi Xiaoqi looked at Cheng Su. Something’s happened!

Cheng Su swallowed, her throat dry. No way, right?

The few bodyguards walked over. Bodyguard Ding’s face was full of guilt, and he didn’t dare look at Cheng Su. The person had been under his protection, and now she’d been kidnapped—that was his failure.

"Say it." From his expression, Cheng Su already had a rough idea. Her heart, which had been pounding wildly, suddenly steadied.

Bodyguard Ding pressed his lips together and said, "The old lady... she’s been kidnapped!"
