Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife Chapter 1866 - 1868: She Hasn’t Given Up
Previously on Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife...
Ever since Ning Ge heard what Cheng Su said about Chiang Qing praising Xiao Qi for being cute, he kept those words in mind. He had been a special agent, after all, meticulous in thought, and he knew full well that Chiang Qing wouldn’t say something like that for no reason—she must have done something.
So he still went to his old friend Bai Ying for help, and this time Bai Ying didn’t personally step in; she just introduced him to someone, a private detective named Cong Dang.
He had trained in the same batch as Bai Ying, except he hadn’t been selected in the end because of some personal reason. Later he opened a detective agency, and word was that the business he handled was quite refined and solid.
Ning Ge didn’t mind. He also knew that constantly asking Bai Ying to mix private matters with official business wasn’t very reliable, so handing it over to Cong Dang was fine, as long as he could dig up something on Chiang Qing for him.
After meeting with Cong Dang and explaining what needed to be done, Ning Ge went home to pick up and drop off Cheng Su at the airport for her return.
Cheng Su had only come over to attend the shareholders’ meeting; she stayed for two days, bought a few things, and was ready to head back. After all, she was a mother now, her son was still young. Although there was someone helping to look after him, she missed him terribly.
Sure enough, after visiting Old Master Ning, she got into Ning Ge’s car.
"You don’t need to worry about Chiang Qing. I’ve already got someone watching her. In the Capital, she can’t stir up any trouble." Ning Ge drove steadily as he spoke to Cheng Su.
Cheng Su made a small sound of assent and said, "She had someone investigate us, didn’t she?"
She wasn’t stupid. Chiang Qing wouldn’t say something like that for no reason. Besides, she wasn’t any sort of public figure, and her private life was not exposed to the public eye. In these past two years, she hadn’t had the slightest interaction with Chiang Qing, hadn’t even seen her, yet the other woman could say something like that. Aside from an investigation, she truly couldn’t think how else she would know.
Thinking that her private life might already have been exposed right under Chiang Qing’s nose, Cheng Su felt an overwhelming sense of disgust and unease.
Why did she investigate them? What was she trying to do by saying those words?
Cheng Su felt a bit irritable.
"Eight or nine times out of ten she did have someone look into you. Didn’t you notice anything off? In your day‑to‑day life, did you ever feel like someone was following you?" Ning Ge asked.
Cheng Su let out a bitter smile. "Honestly, I really didn’t have the feeling of being watched, and nothing felt wrong at all."
Was it because after giving birth her reactions had dulled? However she thought about it, in all those past days, she hadn’t felt that anything was amiss.
Logically speaking, if Chiang Qing sent people to tail and investigate, they’d be some sort of private detectives, right? They’d follow and take some candid shots of daily life or something? But she had never felt like she was being watched.
Cheng Su was just an ordinary woman, living her days the way a normal person would. She didn’t do any particularly special kind of work. For someone like her, even if she was being tailed, it was normal not to notice, not to feel it, so Ning Ge didn’t think she was slow.
After all, who would live every day looking over their shoulder, on edge, wondering whether they were being followed?
"Then it’s probably that the person she hired is good at hiding and capable, or the period of surveillance wasn’t long, so it didn’t catch your attention," Ning Ge said. "Don’t worry, if she can investigate, so can we. I’ve also found an expert in this line of work."
Cheng Su curled the corners of her lips, looked out the window at the scenery flashing by, and said, "If she really did investigate us, then it shows that after everything she’s been through, she has never let it go. To this day she still thinks we are the ones who ruined her and left her destitute. Or maybe she hasn’t given up at all—far from it. She’s become even more paranoid, convinced that everything she believes is right and justified, and that anything standing in her way is just an obstacle."
