Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife Chapter 1813 - 1815: These In-Laws Are so Uninteresting
Previously on Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife...
After the Mid-Autumn Festival, Mother Qi indeed revealed her intention to stay in Qing City to take care of Xiao Qi, allowing Mother Cheng to rest and return to her hometown. She didn’t directly talk to Cheng Su about it, but first subtly mentioned it to Father Cheng.
Father Cheng wasn’t a fool; he laughed and said managing the household alone was quite tiring, and without a woman at home, it was indeed lacking. Since she was now more mobile, it would be good for Mother Cheng to go home.
Mother Qi was overjoyed.
When Father Cheng brought it up with Mother Cheng, he casually mentioned Mother Qi’s intentions.
Upon hearing it, Mother Cheng sighed and said, "I’ve long realized she was reluctant, but I never thought she would bring it up with you. It’s really pointless. She wants to take Xiao Qi, she’s the biological grandmother, will I still fight her over it?" She said it like that, but her tone still carried some reluctance.
She had been there taking care of Cheng Su even before Xiao Qi was born. When Xiao Qi was born, she practically followed the whole process, leaving her own children and husband behind, bringing him up for over a year. To say there’s no emotional attachment would be a lie.
So now that Mother Qi is suggesting she take care of her grandson herself, Mother Cheng understandably feels a bit reluctant and uneasy.
"Perhaps she was embarrassed to talk to you about it?" Father Cheng said.
Mother Cheng sneered and said, "Being embarrassed is one thing, not daring is another. Why didn’t she tell Cheng Su?"
"Alright, alright. She’s the grandmother; helping take care of the grandson is only natural. Since she can handle it now, why not free yourself up a bit?" Father Cheng, seeing her getting slightly annoyed, advised, "Later, talk to your daughter nicely. Tell her that I’m feeling lonely at home alone, and going back would at least give me some company. Don’t bluntly say that the mother-in-law is insisting on taking over."
"Why should I speak well of her?" Mother Cheng muttered, "You’ve seen it these days; Xiao Qi actually doesn’t like her. The other day, when Cheng Su’s elder sister came over, Xiao Qi was really defending us!"
Father Cheng said, "So, do you plan to badmouth her? This would only make our daughter more upset. After all, they’re with the Qi family. They’ll be spending a lot of time together in the future, so it’s better if the relationship is good, with fewer conflicts, and more comfort during cohabitation."
"You’ve underestimated Cheng Su. Even if I speak well of her, Cheng Su will surely see through it. She’s very sharp!" Mother Cheng huffed.
"Seeing through it is one thing, but giving them a dignified way out is another," Father Cheng patted her shoulder and said, "Besides, now that Cheng Zhi is in Guangcheng, me being alone at home is indeed lonely; you going back would be good!"
Mother Cheng’s face warmed up, and she retorted, "Get out of here!"
Father Cheng burst into laughter.
Mother Cheng sighed and said, "If she wants to take care, let her do it. Taking care of a grandson isn’t easy, let her realize that. I’m too lazy to compete with her. Right now, I’m just hoping for our daughter to move to Guangcheng next year so we can relocate as a family."
"We’ll discuss it when the time comes!" Father Cheng wasn’t too keen on Guangcheng. At his age, talking about thriving seemed unrealistic, as he wasn’t the kind of person with big capabilities. Life in the countryside was fine, raising chickens and tending to the land, but in the city, he didn’t have much to do. Even visiting someone might be challenging.
Mother Cheng thought differently. She wanted to be closer to her children. Now that the son was over there, and eventually the daughter would move too, she obviously wanted to be nearer to them. At least, she could see them anytime she wanted. Being so far apart, even meeting once would be difficult, how could she not miss them terribly?
"Let’s decide it this way. I’ll talk to our daughter, but you know her temperament; whatever she decides to say, I won’t be responsible." Mother Cheng set a precaution.
Father Cheng nodded. As a father, he knew his daughter’s temperament well enough. He hoped she wouldn’t say anything too harsh, as after all, the mother-in-law was acting with good intentions.
