Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife Chapter 1812 - 1814: The Same Moonlight Across Miles
Previously on Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife...
On the joyful Mid-Autumn Festival, Cheng Su’s family was bustling with activity. Qi Taiguo also called on this day, and hearing the lively noise at home made him feel itchy with longing.
"I really wish I could be there with you all," Qi Taiguo said lazily.
Cheng Su laughed and replied, "Are you feeling the pangs of homesickness during the festival too?" However, inside, she felt a mix of bitterness and tenderness. This is the helplessness of being in the military; unable to return home freely, always having to adhere strictly to military regulations. Even on such holidays, being able to make a call is already good, for those who go out on holiday duty can’t even do that.
Thinking of this, Cheng Su asked, "You don’t have holiday duty?"
Qi Taiguo glanced at his leg and replied, "Silly, if I were out on duty, how could I be calling you?"
"Does your unit also celebrate the holiday?" Cheng Su asked, making herself sit more comfortably.
"Of course, everyone had a reunion meal and bought mooncakes. There’s even a celebration party tonight," Qi Taiguo asked, "How about your place?"
"This year, the military unit organized a party, and our compound is also having a Mid-Autumn celebration right downstairs. I heard they are doing riddles and hanging lanterns. Oh, and I donated a batch of mooncakes," Cheng Su said, "It’s rare for the compound to be this lively; who knows if I’ll still be here next Mid-Autumn, so I decided to donate a batch."
Qi Taiguo laughed, "So, you really went all out?"
"You have to make it up to me," Cheng Su playfully scolded.
"Alright, whatever it cost, I’ll repay you. Just don’t think it’s too little," Qi Taiguo laughed.
In financial matters, he was nowhere near Cheng Su, the money-making expert.
But no matter the amount, it was his responsibility as the head of the family, and Cheng Su wouldn’t refuse, playfully demanding more and more.
She saw Qi Xiaoqi being carried out of the bathroom by Mother Cheng and them, and she said, "Xiao Qi has finished his bath. We’ll go down to the compound to play in a bit. Would you like to talk to him?"
"Sure!"
Cheng Su called Qi Xiaoqi over and said, "It’s Dad on the phone, quickly say hello."
"Dad," Qi Xiaoqi cooperated well.
Qi Taiguo must have said something on the other end of the line, as Qi Xiaoqi responded with "uh-huh" and "I know," but refused to say more.
"He seems to be speaking quite well now!" Qi Taiguo said when he resumed speaking with Cheng Su.
"After his birthday, he started speaking fluently, even forming complete sentences. I’m now showing him pictures to recognize words," Cheng Su said.
"Isn’t that a bit early?" Qi Taiguo was a bit hesitant after hearing that.
"It’s not early, looking at pictures is fine. Whether he recognizes them or not doesn’t matter; I just take it as playing with him," Cheng Su said, stroking her son’s soft hair.
"I know it’s hard for you with me not being there."
Cheng Su playfully scolded him a few more times before noticing Mother Qi wanting to speak and handed over the phone. She went into the room to find a small jacket for her son, preparing to go downstairs for the Mid-Autumn celebration.
After Mother Qi hung up, the family went downstairs. Indeed, the compound was already packed with family members, with children running around with paper lanterns, laughter echoing everywhere.
The open spaces in the compound were filled with cut mooncakes and some Mid-Autumn offerings like pomelos, grapes, and chestnuts.
Cheng Su had donated a batch of mooncakes, and they were from her own restaurant. Joy Soon Loy’s mooncakes are very popular now, as everyone knows. Seeing her coming down with her son and family, they all greeted her warmly.
Qi Xiaoqi was passed around by several seniors, all eager to hold him up to see the hanging lanterns, while Cheng Su chatted with the family members, wishing all a happy Mid-Autumn. Looking up at the bright moon, she sighed slightly, lamenting that he wasn’t here!
Under the same moon, she wondered if Qi Taiguo, under the same sky, missed her as much as she missed him.
