Cheng Su spent a considerable amount of time in Cheng Yaozong’s office, engaged in conversation until her throat was nearly parched. finally, Cheng Su signaled her intention to depart. However, before she could leave, Cheng Yaozong called out to her and produced a velvet box from a drawer, presenting it to her.
“What is this for? I merely came to visit, and you’re giving me a gift?” Cheng Su inquired with a smile.
Cheng Yaozong found her reaction amusing. “You know, you really are something. This gift is for Xiao Qi. I asked you to select something for his first meeting gift, and all you managed was a piece of clothing. If people find out that I, as his uncle, presented him with just attire for such an occasion, how will I ever face anyone?”
Cheng Su playfully stuck out her tongue. Upon opening the box, she discovered a small golden dragon. “You're giving him this? He can’t eat it, nor can he use it. What is he supposed to do with it?” she questioned.
“He was born this year, and he’s a Dragon, isn’t he? If he can’t consume it, he can certainly play with it,” Cheng Yaozong stated with a flourish.
Cheng Su gave him a thumbs-up. “Using actual gold as a child’s toy—calling you a ridiculously wealthy tyrant would be an understatement.”
Cheng Yaozong let out a chuckle. “You’re heading to Xiao Ya’s place, aren't you? Off you go then!”
Cheng Su placed Xiao Qi’s golden “toy” into her bag, expressed her gratitude, and departed.
Cheng Yaozong watched her go, shaking his head. He observed that becoming a mother had only made her seem even more impish. His gaze was filled with pure affection, akin to how one might dote on their own beloved younger sister.
Recalling Cheng Su’s earlier suggestion, he pressed the intercom button connecting to the secretaries’ office. “Please summon all department heads for a meeting…”
…
Back when Ying Xiaoya and Cheng Yaozu had publicly declared their relationship and were actively planning their wedding, Mr. and Mother Ying, desiring to remain connected to their daughter in the future, purchased an apartment in Guangcheng under her name. This served a dual purpose: it was partly a dowry, and it provided them with a place to stay whenever they visited Guangcheng.
The apartment, situated in the heart of the city, was not particularly large, featuring three bedrooms that were all oriented north-south. Both Mr. and Mother Ying were professionals in their careers, and their combined financial capabilities made the purchase of this apartment entirely feasible.
Xiao Ya, who had taken time off work, was relaxing at home, applying a pearl powder mask to her face. Her face lit up with joy upon Cheng Su’s arrival.
“My relatives from my parents’ side are all here. They’ve taken rooms at the hotel and are currently occupied with entertaining them. You’ve arrived at the perfect moment—I was about to perish from sheer boredom!” Ying Xiaoya exclaimed, delightedly linking her arm with Cheng Su’s. She then inquired, “Why isn’t Xiao Qi with you today?”
“He’s at home. I just made a quick stop at Second Brother’s place before coming here. It’s not convenient to bring him along,” Cheng Su responded with a smile.
“Only you could manage such a feat. He’s still so little, and yet you can bear to be apart from him?” Ying Xiaoya playfully chided.
Cheng Su deliberately retorted, “You do have a point. In that case, I should just head back and tend to the baby!” As she said this, she made a show of preparing to stand up.
“Hey, hey, I was only teasing!” Ying Xiaoya quickly grabbed her arm to stop her.
Cheng Su burst into laughter, and only then did Ying Xiaoya realize she had been tricked. She playfully balled her hand into a small fist and delivered a light tap to Cheng Su’s arm, muttering, “You little rascal.”
“Let that mask dry completely before you wash it off, then we can talk,” Cheng Su suggested, gesturing towards Ying Xiaoya’s face. “It’s starting to flake off in layers. If Cheng Yaozu sees you looking like this, he might reconsider the wedding.”
Ying Xiaoya let out a small shriek and hurried off to the bathroom. After thoroughly washing off the pearl powder, she applied some face cream. She then returned and settled down right beside Cheng Su, resting her head on Cheng Su’s shoulder, adopting the demeanor of a pampered little girl.
“The big day is the day after tomorrow. How are you feeling about it all?” Cheng Su asked, her gaze sweeping across the apartment. Red decorations adorned the space, lending it a very festive ambiance.
“Scared. Nervous,” Ying Xiaoya confessed, snuggling closer. “It feels entirely different from just dating. I feel a significant increase in the weight of responsibility on my shoulders now.”
Cheng Su gently patted her shoulder. “Don’t be frightened. You’ll gradually become accustomed to it.”
“After you got married, how did your relationship with Qi Taiguo turn out?” Ying Xiaoya suddenly looked up and posed the question.
