Qi Taiguo and Ning Ge kept the details of their conversation from Cheng Su, wishing for her happiness and to spare her unnecessary worry.
However, Cheng Su sensed an unspoken tension, particularly after Ning Ge's visit, noticing a subtle shift in Qi Taiguo's demeanor. As he remained silent, Cheng Su chose not to pry. Both individuals held their own private matters, and if Qi Taiguo opted for discretion, she would respect his silence.
The air grew colder, and Qi Xiaoqi continued to grow, displaying a maturity that surprised even Mother Cheng, who commented on his well-behaved and advanced development for his age.
With Cheng Yaozu and Ying Xiaoya’s wedding drawing near, Cheng Su took a brief leave from her studies, gathered some local specialties from Qing City, and prepared for her journey to Guangcheng.
"Due to the recent incident involving Old Gao, the team is operating under heightened security and has numerous matters to attend to. Consequently, I cannot accompany you this time," Qi Taiguo informed Cheng Su. "Do travel safely."
A touch of disappointment flickered across Cheng Su's face, but she understood. "I understand. My father will be there as well, so it won't be an issue!"
During Little Qi’s one-month celebration, Old Master Cheng had been present and met Cheng Su's parents. Having been appointed as godparents, a familial connection was established. Thus, an invitation to Cheng Yaozu’s wedding was extended to them.
By extension, Qi Taiguo's parents also received an invitation to attend the wedding ceremony in Guangcheng.
Nevertheless, Father Qi cited Mother Qi’s slow recovery as a reason to decline, instead directing Qi Jianguo, a university student in Guangcheng, to represent them and deliver their wedding gift.
This decision left Mother Qi deeply disappointed, affecting her appetite for the entire day.
She was incensed that the opportunity to visit a major city had been dismissed by the elder.
Adding to her frustration, she would miss the chance to see her beloved grandson.
"If you are not going, I shall go alone," Mother Qi declared heatedly, beginning her preparations. "We received an invitation; why should we stand on ceremony? I have never ventured that far before; I wish to experience the wider world."
"You are merely inviting trouble; your mobility is already impaired. Would you not become an object of ridicule?" Father Qi inquired softly, his gaze directed at her leg.
Mother Qi's expression shifted momentarily as she considered her leg. "What about my leg? Are there no individuals who walk with a limp in this world? It is not a congenital condition; it resulted from a traffic accident. Are you suggesting I will never recover? And what is so amusing about a limp? If I am to remain like this indefinitely, fearing mockery, should I confine myself to the house forever?"
Her conviction grew with each word, her spirit reawakening. "Furthermore, my purpose is not solely the wedding. Observe, the in-laws are attending; if we do not make an appearance, how can we foster future relations with the Cheng family? Will we not be found wanting in comparison to the in-laws?"
Father Qi gave a dismissive chuckle. "What is there to compare? The Cheng family became godparents through their daughter. Who holds a closer standing? Is that even a question? If you insist on making comparisons, prepare for embarrassment."
Mother Qi paused, surprised. "But Cheng Su is our daughter-in-law; she is part of the Qi family."
"Ah, now you are eager to claim her as a member of the Qi family. What was your earlier sentiment? Did you not previously refer to her as an outsider?" Father Qi continued his gentle teasing.
"You, you old fool, can you not stand to let me have a moment of peace? Are you accompanying me or not? If not, I shall journey alone; my longing to see my grandson is immense. Most importantly, I wish to become better acquainted with him!" Mother Qi resolved to cease further debate with him.
After some deliberation, Father Qi reluctantly assented, and Mother Qi, filled with anticipation, resumed her packing.
