Qi Taiguo grieves Gao Linbing's final act, wrestling with his complex loyalties. Though the mission to secure Zhao Ming's intelligence is deemed accomplished, Qi Taiguo feels the weight of their failure to fully protect him. As Zhao Ming is transferred for critical care, Qi Taiguo learns that Gao Linbing's family has been isolated by the organization, leaving him uncertain of their fate.

Upon returning home from her studies, Cheng Su found Mother Cheng pacing the living room, attempting to soothe Xiao Qi to sleep. Noticing her daughter-in-law's arrival, she immediately drew her aside for a private conversation.

Cheng Su first bestowed a kiss upon her son's head before inquiring, "What's transpiring?"

"Your husband has returned," Mother Cheng stated.

"Truly?" Cheng Su's face lit up with delight. "Where is he?"

This time, the mission had concluded with relative swiftness; usually, his absences extended for a longer duration.

"He's resting in the room. It appears his leg is injured; I observed him limping," Mother Cheng expressed with evident worry.

A wave of anxiety washed over Cheng Su, and she made to head towards the room, but Mother Cheng quickly intercepted her. "Be cautious with your words. He seems quite unwell, he didn't even engage with Xiao Qi. One can only speculate what occurred."

Hearing this, Cheng Su's unease intensified. She let Mother Cheng escort the child to his slumber while she entered the room alone.

The moment the door swung open, a potent cloud of smoke assaulted her senses, triggering a violent coughing fit. The air was thick with the haze of numerous cigarettes.

This man must have smoked excessively; the entire room felt as though it were engulfed in flames.

Cheng Su moved first to open the window. A blast of the crisp autumn and winter air surged inward, swiftly purging a significant portion of the smoke.

Turning back, she discovered Qi Taiguo seated on the edge of the bed, a cigarette in hand. "When did you return?" she asked.

Hardly had Cheng Su sat down when Qi Taiguo enveloped her in an embrace, resting his head upon her shoulder.

Cheng Su was momentarily taken aback.

Qi Taiguo, a man of immense pride, might voice his struggles or hardships, yet he would never seek solace so quietly by holding her in such a manner.

What had happened? Did an incident occur during his mission?

After a period of silence, she felt a dampness on her neck, and her heart ached profoundly. "What is it? Don't fret, I am here!"

She returned his embrace, gently stroking his back, offering silent reassurance.

Time crawled by, and after a considerable interval, Qi Taiguo seemed to regain his composure. He pressed a kiss to her cheek and managed a strained smile.

"If you do not wish to smile, then there is no need," Cheng Su softly implored, her heart heavy as she observed his smile appearing more pained than any tears.

Qi Taiguo turned his head, subtly wiping his eyes.

Witnessing this, Cheng Su ceased her questioning and instead pulled back the blanket. "Your eyes appear so weary. Why don't you lie down and get some rest?"

Qi Taiguo nodded obediently, settled into bed, and closed his eyes.

Cheng Su drew the blanket over him and tenderly patted his hand. "Sleep now, I am right here with you."

Nevertheless, her mind churned with unanswered questions; what exactly transpired during this mission?

Lost in a whirl of thoughts, Cheng Su observed that he seemed to have drifted off to sleep, prompting her to rise. Just as she was about to depart, she felt her hand being held.

Glancing back, she saw that Qi Taiguo had opened his eyes, his gaze fixed intently upon her, leaving Cheng Su no choice but to resume her seat.

"Susu, you are real, you would never betray me, would you?" Qi Taiguo finally broke his silence, his voice raspy, asking the very first words since their reunion.

Cheng Su was momentarily surprised, then offered a gentle smile. "Of course. As long as you remain faithful to me, my loyalty will undoubtedly endure."

A sigh of relief escaped Qi Taiguo, his expression softening with evident comfort.

A sense of suspicion began to form in Cheng Su's mind; could it be that someone involved in this mission had betrayed him, a hidden stab in the back?

"You..."

"Do you happen to know when Sister-in-law Gao and her son departed?" Qi Taiguo inquired once more.

Cheng Su was momentarily stunned, a flicker of confusion crossing her face. "Sister-in-law Gao left? I was unaware. But now that you mention it, I haven't seen them for the past few days. Did they leave? Where did they go?"

A fleeting glint of pain flashed in Qi Taiguo's eyes. He tightened his grip on her hand slightly, revealing, "Gao Linbing, he was an enemy spy who infiltrated our nation."
