Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife Chapter 1587 - 1588: The Living Are More Terrifying

A few more days passed, and Ning Ge, after reviewing the intelligence report provided by Bai Ying, furrowed his handsome brows. He inquired, "Is that all there is?"
A heart attack, declared purely accidental.
"That is the extent of our findings," Bai Ying stated, taking a sip of the orange juice from her crystal glass. The juice was indeed quite exquisite, prompting her to signal the waiter for a refill.
Ning Ge voiced his feelings, "Bai Ying, we were partners once, so there's no need for formality. Now we're good friends, correct? Aren't you being a little unfair by withholding information?"
Such a meager amount of data lacked substantial persuasive power.
"Whether you choose to believe it or not, this is what the investigation uncovered," Bai Ying responded. "That individual, Gao, suffered from severe diabetes and required regular insulin injections. If he did indeed take something to enhance his performance, the conflict arising from that could have easily resulted in his demise. Furthermore, he was no longer a young man, but a gentleman in his sixties."
The implication was clear: he was old and past his prime. If something too stimulating occurred, leading to a sudden cardiac arrest, what real difference would it make?
"I find that hard to believe," Ning Ge stated, his lips pursed. "He was nearing retirement. Even if he harbored such desires, he would surely prioritize his own life, not act so recklessly."
Bai Ying let out a soft chuckle. "Couldn't he have been a pervert?"
"What do you mean by that?"
Bai Ying then passed another document to him, saying, "This is strictly confidential. Given our 'good friend' status, if Old Pan were to discover this, I'd be finished."
Ning Ge opened it, revealing Gao's depraved interests along with accompanying photographs.
With a display of disgust, he put the document away and asked, "So, the Gao family will not be pursuing this matter further?"
"He only had one daughter. Madam Gao intends to relocate abroad with her following his funeral. Besides, how could such a scandal be pursued? Not just the Gao family, but even the city government would likely avoid digging into it," Bai Ying explained nonchalantly.
Gao Hongbo held a position of considerable influence. If such a scandal were to surface, the repercussions would be severely detrimental. If the autopsy report confirmed Gao Hongbo indeed succumbed to overexertion, they would probably refrain from further investigation, given the sheer embarrassment of the incident.
"Such a ruthless mind, such a brilliant maneuver!" Ning Ge mused for a moment, grasping the crux of the situation.
By not pursuing the matter and lacking any concrete evidence, it would be classified as a case of natural death – utterly flawless. Whoever had plotted against Gao Hongbo would have easily evaded detection.
Ning Ge simply could not bring himself to believe it was merely an accident. It was undoubtedly the work of human hands, and the perpetrator...
"No sign of Chiang Qing was found?" Ning Ge directed his gaze back to Bai Ying.
Bai Ying shook her head. "If your suspicion is correct, and Chiang Qing is responsible, then someone must have assisted her. I have reviewed all the investigative materials, and there is absolutely no trace of her involvement."
"That's impossible. She resided in that villa for such an extended period; there must be some clue!" Ning Ge insisted. "Moreover, it's not as if no one was aware of her and Gao Hongbo's presence together!"
"Yet, undeniably, no trace of her can be found," Bai Ying conceded with a shrug. "Let's just say that whoever aided her possesses such extraordinary skills that they managed to completely erase her presence."
Ning Ge's expression darkened.
"The memorial service is concluded, the case is considered closed, and the higher authorities prefer to keep this matter from being exposed. You should cease your inquiries. The dead are dead, and besides, Gao was not without his faults. His death is final!" Bai Ying scoffed.
Ning Ge replied, "As you said, the dead are dead. My concern lies solely with identifying who caused his demise. There is nothing to fear from the departed, but the living are far more terrifying!" And if Gao Hongbo's death truly had connections to Chiang Qing, then who was the one who had aided her?
Bai Ying remained silent. Ning Ge then added, "Could you do me one more favor?"
