Cheng Su and her dad have a heartwarming chat. Meanwhile, Mother Qi returns from a temple visit with a peace charm for her grandson, Xiao Qi, but the baby refuses to be held by her, crying uncontrollably. Qi Taiguo attempts to reason with Cheng Su about not spoiling their son and the need for him to get used to his grandmother's care, but Cheng Su suggests Xiao Qi's dislike is specifically for his grandmother.

With the Mid-Autumn Festival drawing near, the autumn atmosphere in Qing City grows noticeably sharper. Cheng Su’s family by marriage and her paternal family are all gathered in Qing City for the celebration, and Old Master Cheng is certainly no exception. Having arrived in this very city in his youthful days decades ago, revisiting its familiar environment naturally stirs a desire in him to wander its streets once more, doesn't it?

It’s a holiday, and Cheng Su, being his goddaughter, provides excellent company for spending this festive period. Furthermore, he holds a profound affection for the little one, Xiao Qi.

"Xiao Qi’s eyes bear a striking resemblance to yours, much like your aunt’s." Old Master Cheng cradled Qi Xiaoqi, his gaze fixed on the child’s dark, limpid eyes as he spoke to Cheng Su. "When your aunt was young, her eyes were exceptionally lively, possessing a sparkle as if they could convey words. Everyone marveled at them."

"Godfather…" Cheng Su perceived the old man’s subtle melancholy and gently placed a hand on his shoulder.

A faint smile touched Old Master Cheng’s lips. "It’s nothing. As people age, they inevitably find themselves reflecting on bygone days. Your aunt, even after all these decades, remains unfound. Although, deep down, I know we’ll never find her. We continue this search now, but it’s merely your brothers offering me a semblance of hope."

Cheng Su pressed her lips together. "Regardless of whether she’s found or not, your aunt will forever be the vibrant, beautiful sister etched in your heart! In your memories, she remains eternally youthful, doesn’t she?"

Old Master Cheng’s smile widened. "Your words of comfort are quite distinct from those of your brothers." He paused, contemplating for a moment, and then added, "It is indeed as you say, forever young!"

His recollection is preserved in his youth; he shall not witness her eventual aging or her passing. Within the confines of his memories, she remains as radiant and young as ever.

"Ah, ah."

Suddenly, the root of the old man’s beard was gripped with unexpected force. Looking down, he discovered that Qi Xiaoqi had somehow managed to seize his beard, tugging with a distinct sting.

"What’s this, little scamp? Can you actually comprehend my conversation with your mother?" Old Master Cheng observed the child’s sharp, intelligent gaze and couldn’t help but let out a chuckle.

Qi Xiaoqi echoed his mirth, further delighting the elder.

"Typically, a baby’s eyes focus clearly around three months of age, but this boy is different. When he locks his gaze onto you, it genuinely feels as if he’s truly seeing you." Old Master Cheng beamed as he looked at Cheng Su. "He’s so remarkably sharp even now; he’s destined for greatness in the future."

"Don’t heap too much praise upon him; if you ask me, he’s quite the little troublemaker." Cheng Su laughed. "He’s only just turned one month old, and he’s already managed to deeply vex my mother-in-law!"

"He still refuses to be held by his grandmother?"

Cheng Su nodded. "Even after visiting the temple to offer prayers, he remains steadfast in his refusal to be held by her."

"The workings of spirituality are indeed mysterious. I heard from Xiao Ya that you’ve faced considerable trouble from your mother-in-law previously, particularly during your last pregnancy…" Old Master Cheng mused. "In inscrutable ways, who knows? Could this child be a return of sorts?"

"That’s far too mystical!" Cheng Su replied with a lighthearted laugh.

"Some matters are perhaps best approached with a willingness to believe in their possibility rather than outright dismissal. After all, who truly knows?" Old Master Cheng inquired, "Does your mother-in-law still harbor resentment towards you now?"

Cheng Su maintained her composure, carefully tucking in the corner of Qi Xiaoqi’s small blanket. "Living separately naturally minimizes friction. It’s nothing significant; when her words are agreeable, I listen. When they are disagreeable, I simply let them drift away, unheard. I have no intention of compromising my own integrity for her sake."

"Precisely. As long as things appear amicable on the surface, the crucial element is to stand firm in your own reason and never bend your principles. If you ever feel truly unsettled, bring Xiao Qi with you to Guangcheng to reside. After all, a dwelling awaits you there, not merely for a temporary stay, but as a place to establish your home!" Old Master Cheng conveyed a sense of protective concern.

Cheng Su gave a nod. Catching sight of Cheng Yaozu and his wife walking hand-in-hand affectionately, she remarked, "In just a few months, I may very well need to reside there for an extended period!"

Old Master Cheng also noticed his youngest son and his wife, offering a warm smile and a nod. "I shall be anticipating it!"
