Cheng Su's father encourages her brother Cheng Zhi to venture out and make his own way, teaching him the value of self-reliance but assuring him that his family will always be there to support him if he falters. Cheng Su agrees to help her brother if needed, reflecting on her father's wisdom and her desire for her brother's success.

A heart-to-heart conversation unfolded between Cheng Su and her father, fostering a bond akin to friendly chatter. Upon the return of Father Qi and the others, they observed the pair immersed in familial contentment.

Mother Qi, back from her pilgrimage, inquired with anticipation, "Where is my Xiao Qi?"

Cheng Su let out an internal chuckle. Prior to Xiao Qi's birth, her sole topic of conversation was her son; now that her grandson had arrived, it was all about the grandson!

"He just fell asleep not too long ago!" Cheng Su replied with a smile. "Did you enjoy your time at the temple this visit?"

"I'm exhausted... ouch." Qi Fengping clutched her head and shot a glare at Mother Qi. "Mom, why did you hit me? It doesn't hurt!"

"Who told you to speak ill, returning from the temple and uttering unlucky words?" Mother Qi glared at her, then turned to Cheng Su. "The temple visit went very smoothly. I even received an excellent divination, all favorable signs. By the way, I brought this for you."

She retrieved a triangular red envelope, fastened with a red string, from her pocket. "I obtained a peace charm for Xiao Qi," she explained. "Pin it onto his clothing with a safety pin, so he can be shielded from any ill fortune and won't be frightened."

Bad things? Perhaps the grandmother was genuinely fearful!

Cheng Su accepted the charm, saying, "Xiao Qi thanks you, Grandma. I'll pin it on him later."

Mother Qi felt a surge of satisfaction with Cheng Su's compliant demeanor. If only such a cooperative attitude could be maintained consistently, the frequent friction between them would never have occurred.

Unbeknownst to her, Cheng Su simply cherished the sentiment of "peace and safety." Attaching it to her son was a minor matter, not something to be metaphorically 'consumed'.

Mother Qi settled down, awaiting her grandson's awakening. After all, having burned incense and prayed to the Bodhisattva, surely the grandson would permit her to hold him?

However, regardless of how fervently she prayed to all the deities, Qi Xiaoqi remained unwilling to be held. The moment he was in Mother Qi's embrace, he would erupt into loud cries.

Mother Qi herself let out a cry of distress. "Sweetheart, you're breaking this old lady's heart!"

Despite her reluctance, witnessing Qi Xiaoqi's tear-streaked face and his sobbing expression, she had no choice but to return him to Cheng Su.

Qi Taiguo finally witnessed the impact of his son's rejection of his own mother and followed Cheng Su into the room.

"Hand over the little guy, see if I don't teach him a lesson," Qi Taiguo declared darkly.

Cheng Su deflected his approach. "What lesson? Put away that grim expression, don't frighten my son. If you act like your mother, he might not let you hold him either, and then you'll be the one crying."

Qi Taiguo's lips twitched. "Then tell me, what's the matter with him?"

"How should I know? Why don't you ask him yourself?" Cheng Su glanced at him sideways.

Qi Taiguo felt a headache coming on. "We can't spoil him excessively like this; he needs to become accustomed to my mother's care. Otherwise, who will look after him in the future? You need to attend school, and Cheng Zhi is heading to Guangcheng. If your mother can assist, will your father remain home long-term?"

Cheng Su furrowed her brow, instinctively defending her son. "The child is still young; how can he discern his likes and dislikes?"

Qi Taiguo observed her protective stance and muttered, "I believe he is making choices based on his likes and dislikes right now. Otherwise, why would he exclusively resist being held by my mother?"

"Indeed, tell me, why does he specifically object to your mother?" Cheng Su smiled enigmatically at him. "My son is merely a month old; you say everyone adores him, so why does he particularly dislike your mom?"

Caught off guard by her retort, Qi Taiguo could only glare at Qi Xiaoqi. "You tell your mom why?"

Qi Xiaoqi pouted, then burst into loud cries.

"Qi Taiguo, get out!" Cheng Su commanded.
