Mother Qi arrives and is overjoyed to finally meet her grandson, Qi Xiaoqi. She dotes on the baby, much to Cheng Su's subtle displeasure. Cheng Su also meets Qi Jianming's pregnant wife, Lai Rong, and they make polite conversation. Mother Qi continues to shower the baby with affection, ignoring Cheng Su's gentle warnings about bouncing and kissing him, just as the baby's eyes open.

As soon as Qi Xiaoqi opened his eyes, a flicker, like light, seemed to pass through them, leaving them crystal clear and jet-black, gazing as if to seize your soul.

Mother Qi observed this, her heart inexplicably stirring, and her eyes immediately welled up.

"My darling," she exclaimed, overcome with emotion, puckering her lips to plant a kiss on the child.

Noticing the wrinkled mouth and large face descending, Qi Xiaoqi found it utterly terrifying. Before Cheng Su could voice a warning, he turned his head and erupted into loud wails.

Mother Qi was taken aback, but quickly comforted, "Oh, my precious grandson, what troubles you? I am your grandma!" She swayed him gently twice.

"He probably didn't get enough sleep and was startled awake; this child has a bit of a temper. If he doesn't get his rest, he cries," Mother Cheng interjected swiftly, defending her grandson.

Mother Qi's heart ached immediately. "Don't cry, don't cry," she soothed, "Grandma is here, Grandma loves you!"

Little did anyone expect, Qi Xiaoqi's cries intensified, becoming earth-shattering, the sound nearly piercing through the roof.

Cheng Su approached, saying, "Mom, let me feed him and help him drift back to sleep!" She mused, 'What's with this little one?'

Mother Qi was loath to let go, but the child's persistent crying compelled her to reluctantly pass him to Cheng Su.

Strangely, the moment the child entered her arms, his cries ceased immediately. Mother Qi felt a pang of sadness, though she didn't dwell on it. Naturally, children gravitate towards where the milk flows, preferring their mother. Still, it left her feeling a little wistful.

Of course, Cheng Su couldn't possibly feed him in the presence of others. While the rest remained seated, she took the child into the room, closed the door, and observing that not a single tear marked his eyes, she inquired, "Were you just pretending? You don't like Grandma holding you?"

Qi Xiaoqi gazed at her and, to her surprise, actually grinned, an expression that completely melted Cheng Su's heart.

"You little scamp," Cheng Su chided playfully, then proceeded to open her blouse to feed him.

After all, he was merely an infant. Having not slept sufficiently earlier, he quickly succumbed to sleep while feeding.

Cheng Su chose not to bring him back out. When Mother Qi inquired about the child, she replied with a gentle smile, "He's fallen asleep. I'm afraid he'll become cranky if he wakes up, so let him rest in the room!"

"Should I go and watch over him?" Mother Qi still yearned to gaze upon her grandson.

Cheng Su's lips twitched slightly.

Father Qi intervened, "It's fine. The grandson is sleeping soundly. He's just a baby, barely a month old; he can't even walk or run. There's no need for you to watch him. It's best not to disturb his slumber!"

Mother Qi, feeling slightly embarrassed, added, "I was just worried he might cry if he woke up and found no one."

Mother Cheng chuckled, saying, "Honestly, in-laws, I've never encountered a child as easy to care for as our Xiao Qi. He is remarkably well-behaved; he doesn't even fuss if he wakes momentarily. Even during the night, he consistently sleeps until dawn. When his mother was in her confinement period, she never had to wake up to feed him. From birth, he has been considerate of his mother. This child is destined to be filial in the future. Just wait, in-laws, he will certainly be kind to you!"

Upon hearing that nighttime feedings were unnecessary, Mother Qi felt a pang of concern. "Doesn't he get hungry?"

"If he were hungry, he would undoubtedly cry, and he also cries if he needs changing. Otherwise, he rarely cries and is exceptionally easy to manage!" Mother Cheng praised.

But why had he wailed so intensely just moments ago? It happened while she was holding him!

Mother Qi recalled her grandson's previous unrestrained cries and his subsequent quietude once embraced by her daughter-in-law. She mused, 'Indeed, children are most attached to those who care for them. When I hold him, he cries; when Cheng Su holds him, he is silent. It truly leaves one feeling stifled.'

Glancing down at her own feet, her mood darkened further. It was all because of this useless leg; she needed to recover swiftly, lest her grandson grow distant from her.

"Thank you, in-laws, for looking after both mother and child during the confinement period. Once my leg is healed, you can finally have some rest!" Mother Qi declared with a smile, adding, "When he grows up, he must also be filial to his grandma!"

Mother Cheng offered a smile but remained silent, a silent understanding passing between them: once you've recovered, you can step aside and let me care for my grandson!
