With the full-month banquet for Qi Xiaoqi drawing near, Cheng Su, a meticulous planner, made another call home to ascertain the number of attendees. This would allow Qi Taiguo to secure guesthouse accommodations in advance, preventing any awkward situations or exceeding their budget should more guests arrive than anticipated.
"You're becoming increasingly thorough in your endeavors. Even Dad has commended your efforts!" Qi Taiguo exclaimed with satisfaction, embracing his wife and chuckling.
Cheng Su proudly responded, "Thoroughness has always been my forte."
Qi Taiguo laughed, gently pinching her cheek. "Look at you, your nose is pointing skyward, just like a little piggy!"
"How dare you call me a pig! Take that!" Cheng Su playfully retaliated, pinching him back as they engaged in a lighthearted scuffle.
Qi Xiaoqi, resting at the foot of the bed, gazed at the ceiling, thinking, *Truly childish.*
After a brief period of affectionate play, Qi Xiaoqi let out a peculiar sound. It wasn't an attempt to interrupt his parents' playful banter, but rather a signal that his stomach was rumbling with hunger.
Cheng Su picked up her son, performing a quick check. Finding him clean and dry, she lifted her top to feed him. Qi Taiguo watched with a yearning gaze, his eyes filled with a peculiar mix of envy and jealousy.
Qi Xiaoqi, sensing his father's attention, suckled with even greater intensity.
Qi Taiguo couldn't help but feel a pang of envy.
Cheng Su then informed him, "The journey is quite long, so not many will be coming from home. It will just be my father, your parents, your second aunt, and Jianming's wife."
Qi Jianming's current wife was no longer Taozi, whom Cheng Su had met previously. She had been replaced by another, named Xiao Fen, who was currently pregnant and had returned home to await her delivery.
"Don't worry, I'll arrange the guesthouse rooms shortly," Qi Taiguo assured her.
Cheng Su nodded, adding, "Fortunately, the number of guests isn't overwhelming this time. Otherwise, managing everything would be quite hectic, especially considering the distance."
While their relatives back home weren't an insignificant number, they weren't excessively numerous either. If a banquet were to be held there, it would undoubtedly require ten to twenty tables, much like the occasion when Qi Jianguo was admitted to university.
Cheng Su then thought of Qi Fenglian and decided to mention her.
"Hmm, why didn't you inform me earlier?" Qi Taiguo expressed concern for his eldest sister.
Cheng Su chided gently, "You've been occupied these past few days, often working even during your shifts. Our son and I rarely get to see you. How could I possibly bring it up?"
Upon hearing this, Qi Taiguo apologized, "There have been numerous developments within the troops recently. Mid-Autumn Festival is approaching, and preparations for holiday readiness are also a priority."
Cheng Su inquired curiously, "There were holidays before, but you never seemed this busy?"
Qi Taiguo elaborated, "Chief Ning received a promotion, and the regiment commander appears to favor me as well. He's slated for promotion to commissar early next year, so while there's still time, he's likely providing me with some additional training."
Though he spoke casually, Cheng Su detected the underlying implication: "Could it be that you are also expecting a promotion?"
Qi Taiguo remained composed. "There are no concrete plans for that yet. I've only held this position for less than two years. However, with my previous military achievements and if I continue to enhance my capabilities, a promotion should be a matter of time."
Cheng Su was thrilled. Many individuals spend their entire careers stagnant at the company commander level. Although her husband hadn't been promoted yet, possessing the opportunity was already a significant stride forward.
"This is merely a possibility, so please refrain from mentioning it to anyone," Qi Taiguo cautioned her.
Cheng Su teased him, "Do you think I've become addled from being pregnant for three years? I won't speak of something that hasn't materialized. It's better not to court ridicule if it doesn't happen." She then chuckled, "It seems Xiao Qi is bringing you good luck."
"You and our son are both bringers of good fortune to me," Qi Taiguo replied with a warm laugh, flattering her.
He spoke these words knowingly, aware of her sensible nature. He then shifted the conversation to inquire about his sister's prospects for a second chance at love.
