Cheng Su informed Qi Taiguo of her aunt and Deng Weiqiu's request to visit, observing Weiqiu's newfound maturity amid family shifts. They devised a plan to offer Weiqiu a job in the army canteen, potentially pairing her with a soldier for marriage. Qi Taiguo revealed the uplifting news of Ning Gang's promotion to General, prompting discussions of future advantages.

Before Cheng Su could extend her congratulations, Ning Ge, upon receiving the news, gave a brief explanation of the company's situation and rushed back to the Capital overnight. Cheng Su was thus left without a direct recipient for her well wishes. However, she simply made a call to the Ning Family. Though unable to meet them in person, congratulating them over the phone would have to suffice.

Old Master Ning had only just ended his call when Ning Ge walked through the door. Beaming at his grandson's arrival, he remarked, "I had anticipated your arrival around this time. Xiao Cheng just called."

"Oh? Cheng Su?" Ning Ge discarded his luggage and sank onto the living room sofa. He helped himself to some tea from the table, took a few sips, and then inquired, "What did she wish to discuss?"

"What else but your elder brother's auspicious news? She called to offer congratulations and to inquire if I would be attending her son's full-month celebration." Old Master Ning was in high spirits, his face beaming, a wide smile gracing his lips due to the joyous occasion.

Ning Ge offered a simple "Oh" in response, then asked, "Where is my elder brother?"

"His appointment letter was just issued. He's far too occupied with work to be home right now," Old Master Ning replied.

Ning Ge nodded. "Was the official appointment letter, complete with the red seal, issued?"

Only with that formal document would the appointment be confirmed. Verbal notifications alone could sometimes lead to misunderstandings.

"It has been issued," Old Master Ning confirmed. "And now that it's August, there's the handover within the military district to manage, not to mention making the necessary rounds. Once everything is gradually transitioned, it will be October, and the time will be near."

Knowing that Director Wang was slated for official retirement at the end of October, Ning Ge let out a sigh of relief and leaned back against the sofa. "Finally, things have settled!"

Old Master Ning echoed the sentiment with a sigh. "Indeed, your elder brother's matters are finally settled. Now, the only remaining concern for the family is you."

Ugh…

Sensing the elder's intent to lecture him, Ning Ge quickly stood up. "I traveled overnight by train and am quite exhausted. I'll take a shower first," he announced, dashing upstairs before Old Master Ning could utter another word.

"After your shower, don't go out. Wait for your elder brother to return for a family dinner tonight," Old Master Ning called after him, unable to let the matter rest.

Ning Ge simply gestured to show he understood.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, Ning Gang indeed returned home. Old Master Ning, realizing the entire family hadn't gathered together in quite some time, had also invited the second son, Ning Li, and daughter, Ning Zhen, to return. A lively family dinner ensued.

Ning Zhen, as the cherished daughter of the family, naturally turned her attention to Ning Ge's personal affairs.

"Little brother, I heard Song Jiaying recently went on another blind date. This time, it's quite remarkable; I heard the gentleman is a freshly returned medical Ph.D. and rather handsome too," Ning Zhen said slowly, casting a glance at Ning Ge.

She was well aware of the peculiar dynamic between her younger brother and Song Jiaying and felt quite anxious for them both. Song Jiaying was her best friend, and Ning Ge her own brother. From a family, appearance, and education standpoint, she saw them as an exceptionally well-matched couple.

Ning Ge, who had been sipping his soup, choked slightly upon hearing this. He feigned indifference, replying, "Why should her blind dates concern me? I wish her a speedy marriage." Internally, however, a sense of unease stirred within him.

Stubborn as a mule, he was with his words!

Ning Zhen narrowed her eyes slightly and stated, "Alright, I will be sure to relay your sentiments." Let's see if you maintain such a tough stance then.

Ning Ge opened his mouth again. "Go ahead and relay my words. Tell her to curb her temper, to stop presenting such a cold, ice-mountain-like face. Who could possibly handle that?"

"Even if she is an ice mountain, there are those with the discernment to appreciate and cherish her—unlike certain individuals who are inexplicably blind. Hmph!" Ning Zhen retorted sharply.

Ning Ge guiltily lowered his head, continuing to drink his soup. He mulled over the possibility: did that girl genuinely go on a blind date?
