The eldest aunt and relatives departed after dinner without waiting for Qi Taiguo, as Cheng Su invited them to Xiao Qi’s one-month banquet at Joy Soon Loy Restaurant. She learned from Old Song that Deng Weixia was progressing impressively, advancing from odd jobs to practicing knife skills and secretly learning to cook. Deng Weiqiu apologized for his mother’s behavior and sought job help, while Mother Cheng later vented frustrations over the aunt’s rude demeanor and unlucky comments about death.

The following day after Qi Taiguo's return, Cheng Su mentioned the visit request from her aunt and the rest of the family.

"My aunt hasn't changed, still acting like the world owes her. Surprisingly, Weiqiu seems more mature now, learning to restrain herself!" Cheng Su commented.

Qi Taiguo reflected briefly and replied, "I figure Weiqiu is frightened."

"Hmm?" Cheng Su looked puzzled.

"When Weixia left before, all Deng family duties landed on her shoulders. She couldn't even consider marriage these past two years. Wouldn't anyone be scared? With Weixia back, she's eager to secure her own path!" Qi Taiguo sighed deeply.

Cheng Su grasped it at once and chuckled: "If she faces reality and makes concessions, it's far from hopeless. The real terror is her mother, blind to the facts, still haughty and clueless about reality's brutality."

"So, your views on her job? And matching her with a husband? Jobs abound nowadays; I fear she'll be fussy and refuse to toil. But marriage matchmaking can't be superficial—it's a lifelong bond." Cheng Su continued, aware that job placement was straightforward, just slot her somewhere. A poor match, though, might spark endless bitterness!

Qi Taiguo responded, "I'll sort out the job. Our unit's cafeteria needs hands right now; we'll check her willingness, even if it's unglamorous—lots of washing and chopping involved."

Cheng Su's eyes lit up as she said, "Not a bad option—inside the army, linked to Grandpa's domain, plus free meals. If fortune smiles, she might click with a soldier!"

Qi Taiguo burst into laughter: "What a smart scheme, killing two birds with one stone?"

"Plenty of eligible bachelors around you, and Deng Weiqiu looks decent. Without tantrums, she's quite appealing. Realistic standards, and marriage worries vanish," Cheng Su laughed.

Qi Taiguo considered it and saw her point somewhat; Weixia's return had eased Deng Weiqiu's pressures. True humility in expectations could make her marriageable.

"I'll chat with Aunt soon."

Cheng Su nodded approvingly.

"Oh, great news I haven't told you yet," Qi Taiguo announced cheerfully.

"What?"

"Ning Ge’s brother rose to General." Qi Taiguo shared.

Cheng Su blinked in confusion momentarily, then caught on: "Ning Gang became a high-ranking officer?"

Qi Taiguo chuckled: "High-ranking? Only a full General in the Military Commission."

"Wow, a General counts as bigwig status, doesn't it? If not, what does?" Cheng Su exclaimed.

"True, by that logic, he's a major player," Qi Taiguo laughed.

"Wonderful news indeed!" Cheng Su beamed happily.

Her ties with the Ning family ran deep, especially her close bond with Ning Ge. Ning Ge's brother's elevation brought joy to their shared circle.

After celebrating briefly, Cheng Su wondered, "With Ning Gang promoted, might he pull you up too?"

"Why so? Tired of being Deputy Battalion Commander's wife?" Qi Taiguo teased, eyebrow arched.

Cheng Su fired back, "Satisfaction's irrelevant. Promotion chances are exciting, though higher ranks demand extra caution. Still, who doesn't dream big?"

Her subtle words drew Qi Taiguo's loud laugh, then he grew earnest: "Unsure if he'll boost me, but our connection eases future paths. Even if General Ning pushes, I must prove capable. No worries; I won't disappoint you."

Cheng Su smiled widely and nodded, deciding to send Ning Ge her congratulations.
