Qi Taiguo also noticed Qi Xiaoqi’s expression. Watching the baby shut his eyes and keep sleeping, he exchanged a quick glance with Cheng Su.
"Is he asleep or awake?" Qi Taiguo whispered softly.
Cheng Su replied, "How would I know!"
This baby is truly peculiar, unlike most kids—he’s incredibly easy to look after and seldom cries. Strangers don’t bother him at all; apart from a few whimpers for milk, any other tears mean he’s definitely dirtied his diaper.
Cheng Su had even pondered if her boy was overly thoughtful. She knew some infants demand feeds several times nightly, yet hers never wakes her in the dark hours, letting her slumber soundly until dawn.
Postpartum recovery demands solid night’s rest, and Cheng Su was only awake tonight from the stifling heat; normally, she’d sleep straight through till morning.
Mother Cheng also believed her grandson showed remarkable consideration for his mom, staying quiet and well-behaved.
Right now, observing his latest actions—peeking open his eyes briefly then closing them to rest without a peep or protest.
After murmuring together briefly, and seeing the little one stay asleep without stirring, Qi Taiguo remarked, "Our boy really is a breeze to raise."
Cheng Su set aside the bottle, dried her breast with a cloth, and commented, "I swear, Xiao Qi acts so well-behaved, like he actually gets what we say."
"No way," Qi Taiguo dismissed.
"Then why’s he so calm and collected?" Cheng Su paused thoughtfully before adding, "Hey, could our son be a time traveler too?"
"Nonsense!" Qi Taiguo shot her a stern look. "You think time machines are everywhere and everyone’s jumping eras? Did having a son make you lose your smarts?"
Cheng Su pursed her lips. "If I could time travel, why couldn’t he?"
After all, who knows what’s possible?
Qi Taiguo insisted, "Just quit the wild thoughts. Our son’s no freak!"
"So you’re calling me the freak?" Cheng Su planted hands on her hips.
Uh...
Qi Taiguo laughed lightly. "That’s not it at all. Time to sleep—it’s deep night. You must be worn out. Get some rest quick!"
Cheng Su muttered a bit, feeling the exhaustion too, so she settled down and drifted off.
Shaking his head, Qi Taiguo gazed at his son’s tiny face, figuring the kid’s good nature came from family genes—pure time travel silliness.
Next morning, as Cheng Su nursed her baby, she prodded his chubby cheek. "Qi Xiaoqi, be honest with me—are you truly my boy? Did you time travel here?"
Sadly, her query was too ridiculous, and little Qi Xiaoqi paid it no mind whatsoever.
Cheng Su played around then, feigning to withhold the feed, locking eyes with him. "If you’re from another time, spill it now while we’re alone, alright? No fears—Mom’s got your back!"
Qi Xiaoqi’s lips trembled, eyes welling up, appearing utterly pitiful.
"Not the case?" Cheng Su persisted, jabbing his face once more.
Mother Cheng walked in carrying chicken soup and spotted her daughter’s antics. "Hey, hey, what’s this? You’re nursing him, sure, but quit poking his face!"
Busted, Cheng Su tsked. "Mom, I’m his actual mother. Can’t I give him a tiny poke?"
"Absolutely not—my grandson’s skin is so tender, you might mar that cute face. Don’t pretend I haven’t noticed; you pinch and prod him often. I’ve caught you plenty." Mother Cheng cooed at the baby, making silly noises to coax a grin.
A tad annoyed, Cheng Su relented anyway, ceasing her playfulness and dutifully continuing the feeding.
