As Cheng Yaozu's goddaughter, Cheng Su counts as part of their family too. Since she's just given birth and remains in confinement, it would be improper not to offer some goodwill. Therefore, the Cheng Family from Guangcheng dispatched Cheng Yaozu along with his fiancée Ying Xiaoya to express their feelings and visit the little grandson.
Qi Jianguo was already familiar with Cheng Yaozu, yet Father Qi and the Cheng family folks did not recognize them.
Father Cheng and the rest were aware their daughter had taken on godparents. Spotting the dashing and smooth-talking Cheng Yaozu, with his charming manner and honeyed words, addressing them constantly as 'uncle and auntie,' they felt overjoyed.
During their chats, Mother Cheng busied herself sorting the gifts brought by Cheng Yaozu and company—over twice the amount from Luh Kai, featuring precious items like ginseng. She couldn't help marveling at her daughter's luck and fate.
In the old countryside days, a chicken for postpartum meals was a luxury, nothing like today's abundance of bird's nest, ginseng, fish maw, and donkey-hide gelatin—far too much to consume.
Observing the close and warm way Cheng Yaozu and others interacted with Cheng Su, they realized she was truly seen as family, which thrilled them even more.
Cheng Yaozu saw the photo-taking and cheerfully joined in, remarking, "We've arrived at the perfect moment. The old man was overjoyed hearing about your son. He wanted to come himself, but since you're in confinement and his presence might disturb you, we talked him out of it. Once confinement ends and you host the full moon banquet for your nephew, he'll come hold Xiao Qi. For now, snap plenty of photos for him to view."
Cheng Su readily consented, switched outfits, cradled the baby, and posed for family pictures—even crafting a family portrait so the old man could identify everyone.
Photo followed photo until the film roll was exhausted swiftly. Neither Cheng Yaozu nor the hometown fathers lingered; they rushed the film to the studio for quick development, ready to take back upon departure.
Following the lively fun, with the midwife urging Cheng Su to rest, she withdrew to the bedroom, and Ying Xiaoya trailed after, shutting the door for a confidential chat.
"How are the wedding preparations coming along?" Cheng Su inquired as she nursed the baby.
"We've just shot the wedding photos, reserved the restaurant, and all else is underway, though the house renovation drags on!" Ying Xiaoya answered.
Hearing of the house work, Cheng Su probed, "Not heading back to the big house?"
Ying Xiaoya, with a sweet smile, explained, "The old man gifted us the place, insisting it's for us newlyweds to enjoy couple life independently. We'll return only for holiday family dinners!"
Cheng Su felt delighted by this. Young pairs ought to live freely, and she advised, "The old man's thoughtful; don't get arrogant. Drop by frequently—he's aging, so chatting with him does wonders."
"Understood, I've reminded Cheng Yaozu; weekends mean returning for meals!" Ying Xiaoya assured.
Cheng Su nodded approvingly, "Good that you get it." After a beat, she quizzed, "Have you two gotten intimate yet?"
"What?" Ying Xiaoya toyed with Qi Xiaoqi’s tiny fingers, puzzled initially; upon catching on, her cheeks flushed as she chided, "Is there anything you won't pry into!"
Cheng Su grinned mischievously, "Best friends and both girls—what can't we discuss?"
Ying Xiaoya shot her a glare, hesitated briefly, then bashfully nodded.
