Lu Yu and Zhao Qingya made the choice to remain at the palace for the time being.
A maidservant approached Lu Yu, her tone soft and her demeanor filled with deep respect.
She informed the youth that he had been granted the use of a special garden villa, an amenity typically reserved for the palace's most distinguished guests.
The residence, maintained with incredible precision and featuring a unique architectural flair, was tucked away inside a serene bamboo grove.
Once Lu Yu entered, he discovered the environment was kept in perfect, orderly condition.
Beyond the front entryway stretched a magnificent garden, filled with vibrant flowers that permeated the air with a sweet, intoxicating scent.
Taking a deep breath, Lu Yu decided he would stay for at least a few days. Although the setting was quite different from what he was accustomed to, he felt certain he would adapt to it soon.
After getting settled in his quarters, Lu Yu went to find Zhao Qingya, who was sitting in the parlor, sipping tea at her leisure.
“Are you not departing yet?” Lu Yu asked.
“I intend to assist you during your search,” Zhao Qingya replied.
“Does that imply you plan on staying here as well?”
A rare, faint smile appeared on Zhao Qingya’s lips. “Would that be a problem? I was considering staying a while myself. I haven't been associated with the royal family for very long, and this villa is far more luxurious than my usual accommodations. It is quite a rare privilege indeed.”
“I see,” Lu Yu noted. “I assumed that given your standing, you could reside wherever you desired.”
“Usually, I only visit for my duties. My short stays are never long enough to qualify for this level of housing.”
“Even with your rank, you don't qualify?”
“The hunting units are filled with many individuals of higher authority, particularly those based within the capital. My status here is quite standard. However, given your extraordinary talents, you are destined for greatness. Your influence and power will surely eclipse mine in the near future.”
“Power and status are not my main concerns,” Lu Yu responded. “My sole objective is locating this individual and returning to the Freedom Federation to finish my assigned mission.”
“Is that mission truly that critical?”
“It is of the utmost importance,” Lu Yu asserted. “The Ember Empire is involved—they are an aggressive, expansionist power. Failure to treat them as a serious threat could lead to catastrophic results.”
“No way! Could there actually be someone in the Ember Empire that even you cannot defeat?”
A memory surfaced in Lu Yu’s mind of a terrifying black silhouette that pursued him from the Ember Empire, forcing him to flee through numerous wormholes and take shelter with the Stardust Dragon. A cold desire for vengeance flickered within his heart.
Resolving these problems to return to the Freedom Federation was his highest priority. The mystery surrounding the situation back home weighed heavily on his mind.
Once he felt settled, Lu Yu enjoyed a meal and relaxed before heading to bed. Although he occupied only a tiny, hidden corner of the sprawling palace, his current lodging was large enough to hold only a minuscule fraction of the palace's tens of thousands of residents.
A sudden, sharp knock on the door pulled Lu Yu from his slumber. He draped a sleeping robe over his shoulders and cautiously opened the entrance, only to be met by a hulking figure.
“Who might you be?” Lu Yu questioned.
“Are you the one named Lu Yu?”
Lu Yu offered a brief nod in confirmation.
“I hear that Miss Zhao Tianyu has shifted her interests. Word is she is currently pursuing a person named Lu Yu. Are you him?”
“That would be me,” Lu Yu replied with a shrug.
“Fantastic! I want to see exactly what makes you worthy of her attention!”
The man tightened his fists, dropping into an aggressive fighting stance.
“Wait, what is going on here?” Lu Yu said. “Are you challenging me?”
“Absolutely! We will spar. Whoever is the superior fighter deserves to have her affection!”
“This is ridiculous. I have zero time for such nonsense,” Lu Yu scoffed. “Who are you, anyway?”
“A loyal admirer of Zhao Tianyu,” the stranger declared with bravado.
Standing before him, the man was a mountain of solid muscle, his expression radiating a deceptive sense of simplicity. The raw strength pulsing within his massive arms and chest was visible to the eye.
His enormous fists, resembling sledgehammers, hinted at immense destructive potential.
He held a classic boxer's stance, displaying complete confidence and resolve. He was clad in a form-fitting martial arts uniform that projected a professional air.
Lu Yu sighed, realizing that words were useless. It appeared that a physical confrontation was the only way to put this matter to rest.
