Sunshine orchestrated Moon's "capture" by the Watchers, using a decoy plan to ensure Moon was taken to the rift. As Moon was whisked away unconscious, Sunshine confirmed the Doom's Wand had left Earth's atmosphere, believing this act would bring an end to her enemies. With the immediate threat seemingly resolved, Sunshine, Hades, and Leah shared a moment of relief as the world prepared for a 72-hour lightning storm to seal the rifts.

For a full seventy-two hours, the tempestuous electrical storm had unleashed its fury, akin to a celestial tantrum. Electrical discharges flared across the protective shield, a few generators succumbed to overload, and the populace huddled fearfully within their dwellings. Then, with an abruptness matching its arrival, the same voice boomed from the heavens once more:

"This is the Universal Repairman Organization. The electrical grid has been stabilized, and all dimensional rifts and subterranean passages are sealed. Humanity is permitted to emerge once more. You may now leave your homes."

The proclamation resonated as if it were a divine decree. Sunshine, having guided her children, White and Hades, into the sanctuary of her space during the turmoil, emerged with them, immediately rushing towards the windows.

"Mom, is it over? Is it truly finished?" Ariel inquired.

Sunshine proceeded to the balcony, sliding the doors open to reveal the outside. Hades and the children followed her, while White opted to remain on the couch, apparently deeming it an opportune moment for cartoon viewing.

Hades stood close behind Sunshine, his hand resting on her shoulder while his other clasped Castiel's tiny fingers. He echoed Ariel's earlier question, "Is it over?" After almost two years filled with devastating floods, brutal winters, gnawing famine, scorching heatwaves, corrosive acid rain, and destructive volcanic eruptions, not to mention the rampant mutated creatures, was it finally at an end?

"It's a miracle!" a man exclaimed from a balcony on the floor directly beneath theirs. "We are saved."

Sunshine, however, did not mirror the unbridled enthusiasm of the man or the other residents. "Saved? The sky still resembles burnt porridge. We've merely improved our situation from yesterday."

Hades gently squeezed her shoulder. "You sound thrilled," he chuckled.

She let out a sigh. "I am. Truly, I am. I just don't know how to express happiness for this moment. I anticipated tears or overwhelming excitement. Yet, here I am, feeling strangely numb."

His hand moved to cup the back of her neck. "You have to try, honey, just try. At long last, we have genuine hope."

In the sector known as Kingsbridge, an exhilarated soldier unlatched the small gate. Residents, equally thrilled, began to stream outside. Their gazes fixed on the horizon, still streaked with grey ash. Some raised their arms, as if anticipating the descent of celestial beings.

"I can see the sun," one voice cried out.

Major Grayson's voice boomed over the public address system. "Everyone, return inside immediately. You are not permitted outside. The gate will be secured in one minute."

No sooner had the warning concluded than a mutated hyena launched itself from an unseen location. The first man barely managed a choked scream before the beast brutally dragged him to the ground. Pandemonium erupted. People scrambled, tripping over one another, shrieking as the monstrous creatures began their assault on anyone within reach. The main gates were thrown open, and soldiers surged forth, engaging and neutralizing the beasts.

Residents turned back towards the main gates, retreating inside with newfound urgency. The injured were carried hastily through, and the gates were once again sealed shut.

"You imbeciles," Major Grayson thundered, emerging from the command center. "What were you thinking? The sky may be mended, but the world remains fractured! Did you not even pause to ascertain if any watchers were trapped down here with us? Did any of you observe even a single mutated creature or beast evacuating during the twelve-hour window?"

His sharp questions and evident anger were met with a profound silence. The hopeful expressions from mere moments before were now replaced with palpable fear. Reality had crashed back with terrifying speed.

A heavy silence descended within the base. The announcement, which had urged humanity to step forward, had omitted the harsh reality of their current state. The apocalypse was far from truly over.

An elderly man collapsed to the ground, tears streaming down his face as he cursed the repairman organization. "We waited seventy-two hours for this? For monsters?"

As the populace grappled with this stark reality, Sunshine made her way with purpose to the command center. Concurrently, drones ascended from the base, charting courses to various destinations. She positioned herself before a camera, her face and voice to be broadcast wherever the drones traveled and projected onto every screen within the base.

"People of Earth," she commenced, her voice steady and clear, "we have endured immense suffering and profound grief since the celestial impacts. We have laid to rest cherished friends and family. We have battled savage creatures and endured the gnawing pangs of hunger. Yet, we persist. We are still here."

The drones adjusted their focus, transmitting her image to every surviving bastion.

"I understand your excitement, but I implore you to take a moment, to breathe, and to face the reality before us. Yes, the sky has been patched. There are no more watchers, no more encroaching mist, and thankfully, no more widespread mutants. However, do not mistake a repaired sky for a promised paradise. Dangerous creatures still lurk beyond our immediate safety. Beasts with scales like armor, winged wolves from nightmares, avian monstrosities as vast as trucks, colossal crocodiles, and serpentine giants that dwarf skyscrapers. I have witnessed them, and many of you undoubtedly have as well. The devastation wrought by the apocalypse will not simply vanish overnight. Its effects are crippling, they linger, and they strike with deadly force."

Lisha let out a loud sigh beside her, drawing Bob into a tight embrace.

"But listen closely to my words," Sunshine declared with unwavering resolve. "Recovery is within our grasp. Hope is not lost. We will not forever live in fear. Our climate will gradually normalize. The slumbering mountains will awaken. With diligent effort, our soil will regain its fertility. Those predatory beasts that hunt us, we will turn the tables and eradicate them completely. We shall rebuild, piece by piece, planting seeds of new beginnings. We will instill in our children the understanding that survival is not mere hiding, but thriving."

She paused, allowing the cameras to capture the resolute expression on her face.

"Don't be reckless and charge into danger. The world requires mending, and it is our duty to fix it. From this moment forward, we shall maintain our practiced caution. Under the leadership of the Quinn group, Fortress Four will continue to offer support and assistance to all those in need. When our reach extends to your territories, I implore you to welcome it. Do not hostile our aircraft when they land in your vicinity. Let us collaborate to restore our world."

Every utterance was recorded by the drones, disseminating her authority and message of hope to nearby and distant outposts. Additional drones were dispatched, carrying the identical message in multiple languages to the farthest reaches of the globe.

Concluding the external broadcast, she transitioned to an internal one. "Attention all inhabitants, patience is paramount for rebuilding efforts. Should anyone attempt to open the gates without authorization, I will personally deal with them severely. Get yourselves together, people; we have not endured this far only to perish carelessly."

Sunshine moved away from the control panel, extending her arms. Though the sky bore scars, she felt as occupied as ever.

"What's the next step?" Hadrian inquired.

She stretched and drew a deep breath. "I'm heading to the highest watchtower to observe the sky."

Before long, night descended upon the base like a heavy shroud. Sunshine remained in the watchtower, her hands gripping the railing. From her vantage point, she could observe the drones patrolling the sky, their lights blinking as they disseminated her speech across the world.

Hades stood beside her, maintaining a silent vigil. He had been her steadfast support since the onset of the apocalypse—reliable, unwavering, the kind of man with whom she could find peace, knowing everything wouldn't unravel.

"Your speech was remarkable," he murmured.

She shifted, leaning her body against his. Her forehead rested on his chest. His steady heartbeat was a grounding force unlike any other.

"I'm exhausted," she confessed. "The constant leadership, the insane repairs, the battles. Now that the sky has cleared, I question if I was merely simulating strength."

Hades gently lifted her chin. "Simulating? Sunshine, you sustained this base when everyone else wanted to retreat and hide. If that's simulation, then the world needs more simulators."

A laugh escaped her, breaking the silence. Drones patrolled the base, and dangers lurked. Yet, for a moment, panic eluded her. She was simply a woman in love, standing in a watchtower with the man who had weathered every storm by her side.

Their lips met, initially tenderly, then with a rising intensity, as if sealing a sacred promise. It wasn't a fairy-tale sweetness, but the raw, desperate, hope-filled kiss of apocalypse survivors.

A drone hovering above captured the intimate moment. Warren, without hesitation, shared it with the entire base, broadcasting it on the main screens.

They drew apart but stayed close. "So, what now?" Hades asked again.

Sunshine gazed toward the dark, ash-grey horizon. "Now? We heal. We find joy. And when we encounter a mutated beast, we fight. But tonight... tonight, we rest. And tomorrow, all training is suspended."

Even these words were transmitted. The residents erupted in applause, each for their own reasons. Some guffawed, as if she had commanded them to find amusement.

As their lips met once more, a chime resonated in Sunshine's mind.

"Host, the dooms wand carrier has entered The Xylos Domain."

She closed her eyes and responded, "Activate all the wands and annihilate them."

Now, happiness had truly arrived.
