Ye Shu advised Bai Jingshu to carefully manage her overweight baby's weight without sudden reductions. Ye Zhuo left home to meet Zhao Pingting and An Lizi at the night market for a gathering. An Lizi's car collided with Song Shiyu's Rolls-Royce at an intersection; after he promised to handle repairs, she invited him to join them, and they arrived to meet the group.

Zhao Pingting held a favorable opinion of Song Shiyu.

He came across as gentle and courteous, featuring handsome looks and a humble demeanor.

Still, Zhao Pingting wondered why Song Shiyu stayed single despite his appealing appearance.

Could Song Shiyu resemble the old Cen Shaoqing, having seen beyond worldly affairs?

Zhao Pingting scooted over. “Brother Song, sit down.”

“Thank you.” Song Shiyu took the spot beside Zhao Pingting.

Ye Zhuo waved over the waiter. “Another cup of green tea, please.”

Then she realized her mistake and turned to Song Shiyu. “Brother Song, green tea works for you?”

“Yes.” Song Shiyu nodded.

Ye Zhuo smiled at the waiter. “So, one more green tea.”

“Got it, one moment please.”

An Lizi tucked away her bag and grinned. “Great Zao, Pingting, know how Boss Song and I crossed paths?”

“How?” Zhao Pingting looked eager with curiosity.

Ye Zhuo sipped her green tea and parted her lips. “Car accident.”

An Lizi stared at Ye Zhuo in shock upon hearing that.

Even Song Shiyu glanced over with interest.

An Lizi's eyes went wide. “Damn! Zao Zao, you put a camera on me?!”

Ye Zhuo chuckled. “Dumb? You told us yourself about the minor bump with Brother Song's car at the traffic light.”

An Lizi smacked her forehead. “Right, yeah.”

With that, An Lizi beamed at Zhao Pingting. “So you're the slow one, Pingting.”

Zhao Pingting got called out unfairly. “When did I act stupid?”

An Lizi pressed on. “How aren't you? I mentioned the little clash with Boss Song's car, and you were right there. Even Zao Zao figured it was the car accident. You're like 250.”

Zhao Pingting rubbed her head. “My wits aren't as quick as Zao Zao's.”

“Exactly why you're silly.”

No awkwardness lingered between them despite the time apart; they bantered back and forth easily.

Ye Zhuo grabbed the menu, picked a few items, then passed it to Song Shiyu. “Brother Song, anything you want?”

“Let them order first,” Song Shiyu replied.

Ye Zhuo shook her head. “No need. Got all their favorites already.”

An Lizi grinned. “Zhuo Zhuo knows us inside out.”

Only then did Song Shiyu reach for the menu.

Just standard upscale fare.

Nothing standout, yet a line stretched out the door.

Song Shiyu picked two extras. “This'll do.”

Soon enough, the food arrived.

Song Shiyu's presence didn't shift the vibe; the trio laughed and talked freely, tossing in lines for him now and then.

Song Shiyu followed along smoothly.

A bubbling hot pot sat center table, red oil churning as prawns went in. Ten minutes later, they came out plump and fresh.

Ye Zhuo downed three prawns straight. “These prawns taste amazing. Give them a go.”

Zhao Pingting shook her head. “Prawns aren't my thing.”

“I'll sample one.” An Lizi fished out a prawn.

Song Shiyu enjoyed the fat cow slices in his bowl.

An Lizi bit into her prawn. “Super tasty. Boss Song, grab one quick before they overcook.”

“Alright.” Song Shiyu ladled a prawn into his bowl.

Coated in spicy sauce, the plump prawn was silky smooth, leaving a lingering spicy aroma with a unique kick.

Peering through the steamy pot, An Lizi gazed at Ye Zhuo. “Da Zao Zao Zao, your wedding with Master Five approaches. Feeling nervous?”

The wedding date.

Indeed.

Though the woman before him was once his love, soon she'd rest in another's arms.

Song Shiyu's downcast gaze hid his emotions.

His mind wandered.

What if the boy locked in that dark room over a decade ago never encountered her—what would become of him now?

Would Song Shiyu still exist in this world?

Maybe.

No chance.

How could anyone endure without light in their soul?

Her stunning features shimmered vaguely. Moments later, Ye Zhuo replied softly, “Lucky for me, not too nervous.”

“Oh yeah, Zao Zao, your date with Master Five is February 6th, right?” Zhao Pingting inquired.

“Yes.” Ye Zhuo nodded faintly.

Zhao Pingting counted on her fingers. “Then I might not make it back in time. Zhuo Zhuo, you...” Her words trailed off quieter.

Hearing that, An Lizi chimed in, “Can you get time off?”

As close besties, reunions were rare. An Lizi hated for Zhao Pingting to skip Ye Zhuo's big day.
