Terisa offers Lisa a pill to cure her mana illness, claiming their god is false. After Lisa consumes the pill, she undergoes a painful transformation before fully recovering. Tinter pledges his loyalty to Terisa, who then instructs them to flee to the Vergas Kingdom and gives them pendants for passage. After they leave, Terisa is confronted by Yuli, who demands information about Merlin's killer on behalf of "Mother."

As the sun descended, painting the sky with hues of deep orange and crimson.

*Swish. Swish. Swish.*

Silently gliding above the colossal trees of the dense, vibrant forest, a small, crimson imp traversed the airspace.

*Shh.*

"Hmm...?"

The imp's gaze sharpened. A subtle movement had registered in the distance.

Without a moment's delay, it propelled itself towards the anomaly.

Below, a monstrous creature, serpentine in form and vastly larger than any mundane beast, stalked through the dense undergrowth. Its lengthy claws scraped against the soil, while three robust tails trailed behind it. The surface of its body was etched with countless scars, like a chronicle of past conflicts. Currently, its sole focus was the hunt for sustenance.

"Alright."

The imp lightly tapped the iron ring adorning its finger. Instantly, the skin of both its hands underwent a startling transformation—hardening, darkening, and solidifying into pure iron.

*Tang. Tang. Tang. Tang.*

It clapped its hands together, generating a sharp, resonant sound that pierced the forest's quietude.

"Hissss...?"

The great beast halted, startled. Bewildered, it jerked its head upwards, seeking the origin of the disruptive noise.

But the instant its gaze shifted skyward—

*Swish. Swish. Swish.*

Three obsidian blades materialized from disparate angles in unison, cleaving effortlessly through its form—severing head, tail, and torso.

*Thud. Thud. Thud.*

"...That was precise."

Leon emerged from the foliage, his demeanor composed and impassive.

[Congratulations! You have Levelled Up.]

"Master." Dusk dispelled his invisibility, appearing silently beside the fallen beast's midsection. "This Vadizard possesses a mana core. Observe."

*Bite.*

It unhesitatingly split open the monster's torso, retrieving a small, emerald-glowing stone from within.

"Let's see..."

<Inspect>

[Name: Vadizard’s Mana Core]

[Rank: D]

[Description: A Vadizard is a notably fragile and swift creature. They possess the ability to alter their skin coloration, allowing them to blend seamlessly with their surroundings. Capturing one alive for taming purposes is exceedingly difficult.]

"Another D-ranked monster..." Leon murmured, a slight furrow creasing his brow as he directed a glance toward Dusk. "How far into the forest have we ventured?"

"I am uncertain, Master. However, I surmise we are quite deep—the very fact that we've encountered a Vadizard serves as adequate confirmation. They are natural sustenance for my kind." Dusk responded, his expression unperturbed.

"Our objective requires us to delve even deeper." Leon shifted his gaze forward. "Imp, continue your reconnaissance for more powerful beasts."

"Understood, Master."

The imp's hands returned to their natural state. Ascending once more into the air, it resumed its diligent search.

Leon observed his inventory, placing the D-ranked core within its confines.

---

— Inventory —

73x F-Rank Mana Cores

52x E-Rank Mana Cores

25x D-Rank Mana Cores

500x Monster Body Parts

---

’A total of one hundred and fifty mana cores, the majority being F-rank. Approximately two hundred vanquished creatures, processed into parts. And I've ascended to Level 20 within a mere hour.

The progress is acceptable... yet insufficient. I must locate higher-ranking monsters to accumulate more experience points.’

Leon closed his inventory interface, his expression inscrutable.

"Master... behold."

Dusk approached a nearby tree, drawing its paws lightly across the rough bark.

"What is it?" Leon inquired, turning his head.

"A Worldroot Tree, Master."

Leon's eyes widened in surprise. "What?"

Without hesitation, Leon activated his skill upon the arboreal entity.

<Inspect>

[Name: Worldroot Tree]

[Race: Tree]

[Rank: S]

[Description: A mystical arboreal entity that perpetually roams through forests. It remains undetectable and unidentifiable by humans, elves, or demons.]

"I recall encountering one of these previously..." Leon mused, closely examining the tree. "The last time I traversed this wilderness with that slime companion, we passed by an identical specimen. However, how did you discern its presence? It appears no different from any other tree in this vicinity."

"It is somewhat challenging to articulate, Master. It's more akin to... a sensation." Dusk explained. "As we approach one, its aura becomes perceptible to us."

"I comprehend." Leon crossed his arms, his gaze fixed ahead. "And where does this particular specimen lead?"

"That is precisely what I endeavor to ascertain, but..." Dusk's paws ceased their motion against the bark. "...there appears to be an obstruction. The tree's connection to its counterpart is not transmitting clearly. It is as though some force impedes the transmission."

"And what is this impediment?"

"I cannot quite discern it. The communication is occurring, yet the messages are... distorted. Incoherent." Dusk paused, tilting his head slightly. "It repeatedly relays the phrase — 'rapped in side geon.' I find myself unable to comprehend the meaning of 'side geon.'"

Leon regarded him with a blank expression. "...Might it possibly be attempting to convey 'trapped inside a dungeon'?"

"Ah." Dusk turned back to the Worldroot Tree and resumed his gentle scratching of its trunk. "Are you, perchance, ensnared within a dungeon?"

A brief silence ensued.

"It confirms, Master. It is trapped." Dusk replied.

Leon's eyes narrowed thoughtfully. "Then might I inquire why it does not simply teleport itself to freedom?"

"Normally, a Worldroot Tree wouldn't be confined by any dungeon—they possess far too much power for such a thing," Dusk's voice turned solemn. "However, this one is trapped. This implies the dungeon imprisoning it is far from ordinary."

He then shifted his gaze to face Leon directly.

"To hold a Worldroot Tree captive, a dungeon must be at least of Realm-Hold class, or what human classification terms as SS-rank."

Leon froze mid-motion.

"...You mentioned SS-rank?"

"Indeed, Master," Dusk confirmed with a nod. "Such dungeons possess the capability to contain entire realms within their confines and can endure for tens of thousands of millennia. When they become saturated with mana, a connection forms between the dungeon and a world like this one, allowing the monsters sealed inside to emerge."

Leon remained silent for a beat. Then—

"Can we enter it?"

"Master," Dusk's tone became hushed. The usual impassivity on his features vanished, replaced by a flicker of genuine apprehension. "We must not venture anywhere near a Realm-Hold dungeon. It would undoubtedly lead to our demise. Every single monster dwelling within is sentient and significantly more powerful than either of us."

He paused, his eyes losing focus as if gazing into the distance.

"I once ventured into one out of sheer curiosity. It took me three full years simply to find a way out. Every single day spent inside was a desperate struggle for survival."

"I understand," Leon replied succinctly.

Leon's eyes remained fixed on the system notification for a moment.

Then, a subtle smile began to bloom on his face.

"Dusk."

"Yes, Master?"

"Request the tree to grant us passage."
