Qin Sheng reflects on her second chance at life while strategizing how to secure financial independence. When a disrespectful servant attempts to belittle her, she asserts her authority as a member of the Qin family, forcing the maid to back down. Despite the tense environment in her new home and the obvious coldness from her parents, she remains determined to change her future and reconnect with those she lost.

Qin Sheng remained silent, choosing instead to calmly consume her bread.

Lin Shuya paid her no mind.

“I’ve finished,” Qin Sheng declared after a few bites, rising from the table.

Observing her attire, Qin Hai frowned. He turned toward Lin Shuya and queried, “Did you fail to prepare any clothes for Sheng’er?”

Baffled, Lin Shuya furrowed her brows. “I instructed the maid to deliver them already.”

Both Qin Hai and Lin Shuya fixed their gazes upon Qin Sheng.

Narrowing her eyes momentarily, Qin Sheng replied calmly, “They were hideous.”

Those garments had been selected by Qin Churou, who—having perused photos of Qin Sheng—had intentionally chosen outfits that were outdated and unflattering.

In her previous existence, these very clothes had branded Qin Sheng as a country bumpkin, leading Qin Hai and Lin Shuya to hide her true identity from the world.

Lin Shuya’s expression darkened. It was clear to her that Qin Sheng lacked the consideration and good sense of Rou’er.

“Sheng’er, if those do not please you, feel free to choose what you like.”

Qin Hai produced a card and extended it to her. “There are 2,000 dollars on this one.”

In his mind, Qin Hai believed he was acting with paternal generosity; surely a girl raised in the rural regions would be moved by receiving such a substantial sum of pocket money.

Ignoring the card, Qin Sheng countered with a trace of sarcasm, “Does Qin Churou also receive a mere 2,000 dollars as her allowance?”

“Twenty thousand,” Qin Hai confessed without hesitation.

“Dad,” she began, emphasizing the title with intent—a word she had not uttered since rebirthing. “As your biological daughter, do I hold less value than your adopted one?”

She had already repaid her debt to them in her past life. In this present timeline, she would allow no further compromises. Anything that was rightfully hers, she intended to reclaim.

Lin Shuya immediately interjected, “Qin Sheng, how can you compare yourself to Rou’er? Rou’er has an active social life and requires funds for various affairs. You’ve only just arrived from the countryside; what could you possibly need to spend money on?”

Shifting her focus entirely to Qin Hai, Qin Sheng ignored Lin Shuya’s presence.

The smile on Qin Hai’s face faltered. Under the weight of her steady gaze, he felt a flicker of mounting embarrassment.

He reconsidered his stance. “I acted without proper thought. Sheng’er, from now on, you shall receive an allowance equal to that of Rou’er.”

Qin Sheng, however, was not about to let him off so easily. “And how much has Qin Churou received over the past eighteen years?”

“Qin Sheng!” Lin Shuya hissed, seething with frustration. “Are you determined to strip everything from Rou’er?”

“Had our identities not been swapped, Qin Churou is the one who would have been labeled a country bumpkin. Everything she enjoys today belongs to her only by circumstance, not by right. Why would I be the one stealing?”

Qin Sheng offered a chilly sneer and turned back to Qin Hai. “Dad, surely you wouldn’t dream of mistreating your own flesh and blood?”

A man obsessed with appearances, Qin Hai lacked for nothing financially. “I will provide you 200,000 to start. The rest shall be set aside for your dowry.”

Lin Shuya felt a sharp pang of resentment. Qin Sheng was merely a secondary student; such an expenditure felt like a total waste. That sum could have easily funded several wardrobes for Rou’er.

Though she attempted to intervene, a sharp glare from Qin Hai forced her to retreat in silence, her opinion of Qin Sheng sinking even lower.

She harbored a secret relief: it was fortunate indeed that they had brought the wrong child home years ago, for otherwise, Qin Churou would never have become her daughter.

Qin Sheng accepted the card and tucked it into her pocket.

While 200,000 was a modest sum, she knew it was the peak of what she could extract tonight.

Finishing a light breakfast, Qin Sheng secured the card and departed, finding herself wandering toward a villa before she even realized it.
