Song Zhicheng asked Xia Chuyi to keep concealing his injury from Jiang Fengqi to spare her guilt, and she readily agreed. He shared plans to return to teaching in the mountainous areas once recovered, despite health concerns, leading Xia Chuyi to advise seeing a doctor. As she moved to take the sleeping child to rest, Guo Jiumin, a beaming middle-aged man from the eccentric Guo family, approached and gazed at Huo Shiwu.

After casting a glance at Huo Shiwu, Guo Jiumin declared, "Young Madam Huo, your child bears the bloodline of both the Ou and Huo families; with their backing, his prospects in the military know no bounds!"

Guo Jiumin’s statement came out of nowhere, prompting Xia Chuyi to instinctively shift her eyes toward him.

Guo Jiumin’s comment appeared complimentary at first, but a deeper look revealed its thorny undertones.

Clearly, Guo Jiumin was stressing that thanks to ancestral blessings, Huo Shiqian’s child was destined for greatness.

This subtle hint either implied the child’s own potential was lacking or slyly highlighted the immense sway of the Ou and Huo families within military circles.

Not knowing Guo Jiumin well, Xia Chuyi worried about misstepping, so she responded steadily, "The child’s path will hinge on his own luck; he might not join the military at all."

Xia Chuyi kept her voice remarkably steady, handling the moment with finesse.

Hearing this, Guo Jiumin let out a chuckle, "Is that so? So, will the child tread in his mother’s path and take over your empire in the business realm?"

At these words, Xia Chuyi’s brows knit together right away.

She wasn’t imagining things; Guo Jiumin’s remark dripped with veiled barbs.

"You..." Xia Chuyi started to speak, on the verge of responding.

"Mr. Guo." Spotting his wife getting "boxed in," Huo Shiqian swiftly showed up beside her.

For whatever reason—perhaps just in her mind—the strange vibe radiating from Guo Jiumin settled the instant Huo Shiqian arrived.

As a result, Xia Chuyi felt relief wash over her immediately.

"Mr. Guo, we appreciate you traveling all the way from G City for our child’s full moon banquet," Huo Shiqian stated calmly but coolly, "It’s a long journey for such a minor event with a mere infant; it hardly warrants your valuable time."

Guo Jiumin burst into laughter at that, "Hardly minor! This child is of both the Ou and Huo families!"

"Besides, at my age, I’m only a commander—a mere hanger-on in the Gu family."

"Not like you, Huo Shiqian, achieving so much while still young." Guo Jiumin spoke with seeming casualness, "Thus, coming on behalf of the Gu family to view the child wastes no time at all."

In his speech, Guo Jiumin echoed a bit of Guo Jiacheng’s blunt style.

Yet while Guo Jiacheng’s directness rang true, Guo Jiumin’s felt... off to Xia Chuyi.

With the house buzzing with prying eyes that day, Xia Chuyi kept quiet mostly, merely telling Huo Shiqian, "Shiqian, the baby’s sleeping; I’ll carry him inside now."

With that, she gave a brief nod to "Mr. Guo" and departed with the child in her arms.

As she walked away, oddly enough, Xia Chuyi sensed "Mr. Guo" eyeing her, whether on purpose or not.

But moments later, she dismissed it with a head shake, urging herself not to read too much into it.

Still, she wasn’t overreacting.

Guo Jiumin’s eyes were fixed squarely on Xia Chuyi.

Noticing this, Huo Shiqian’s brows furrowed; he moved a step, cutting off Guo Jiumin’s view.

"The house is hectic today; please make yourself at home, Mr. Guo," Huo Shiqian said evenly.

"Of course, of course." Guo Jiumin replied with cheer.

Even with Guo Jiumin’s usual front, Huo Shiqian stayed poised, directing Xiao Wang nearby, "See to Mr. Guo’s needs."

This was basically telling Xiao Wang to watch over Guo Jiumin.
