At Huo Shiwu’s one-month celebration, Xia Chuyi introduced her son, Huo Lixing, to Song Zhicheng, who praised the child amid a brief nickname mix-up from her second brother. Song thanked Xia Chuyi and Huo Shiqian for aiding his hand injury recovery via special treatment. He then asked them to help conceal his progress from Jiang Fengqi.

After requesting Xia Chuyi to keep the incident hidden, a faint apology appeared in Song Zhicheng’s gaze as he addressed her, “On this issue, Chuyi, I realize you’ve aided me plenty already, but…”

Song Zhicheng let out another sigh before continuing, “Chuyi, my hand’s nearly recovered now, so I truly hope… she stays in the dark forever about this.”

“Chuyi, do you get what I’m saying?” Song Zhicheng gazed at Xia Chuyi, his expression filled with complication.

Hearing those words, Xia Chuyi nodded without hesitation.

“I get it,” Xia Chuyi replied with a sigh, “I won’t breathe a word to my sister.”

Not only had Song Zhicheng asked her to stay silent, but even without his plea, Xia Chuyi had no plans to inform Jiang Fengqi anyway.

The situation matched exactly what Huo Shiqian had broken down for her earlier.

Wang Zicheng, Song Zhicheng—be it lying or hiding the truth, their actions weren’t aimed at shielding Jiang Fengqi.

Should Jiang Fengqi discover it, she’d only feel deeper guilt and greater distress, gaining nothing else.

“Thank you,” Song Zhicheng expressed with genuine gratitude.

Xia Chuyi shook her head, replying, “Don’t mention it.”

“Oh, and…” Song Zhicheng went on, “I’m heading back to the Capital City this trip. Since I’m mostly healed, I intend to return to the mountainous region for teaching soon.”

“Back to teaching?” Xia Chuyi blurted out in astonishment, “Weren’t you quite ill during your previous stint there? Can your body really endure it now?”

Song Zhicheng laughed lightly at her concern, saying, “It’ll be fine. Armed with last time’s lessons, I’ll prepare thoroughly this round—no mishaps will occur.”

Song Zhicheng clearly had his mind set on resuming his teaching duties.

About that choice, Xia Chuyi found little else to say.

After a moment’s thought, she suggested, “Senior brother, before you head out, pay a visit to that ‘doctor’ and have him tailor some prescriptions to your condition.”

While speaking, Xia Chuyi pondered inwardly: She’d later learn Song Zhicheng’s teaching destination and whip up some medicinal recipes for him.

With their chat wrapped up, Xia Chuyi added, “Senior brother, the kid’s asleep now. I’ll carry him to the room first.”

“Alright.” Song Zhicheng nodded, offering no objection.

Yet, Xia Chuyi couldn’t simply depart with the child right away.

She’d barely taken a few steps away from Song Zhicheng when yet another guest drew near.

“Are you Young Madam Huo?” The voice belonged to a jovial, plumpish middle-aged fellow.

The man’s wide, beaming smile left Xia Chuyi feeling oddly uneasy.

Still, a guest remained a guest.

No one present at the Ou Family today was commonplace.

Wealthy, influential, or at minimum, connected to both Ou and Huo families.

“Hello, may I ask who you are?” Xia Chuyi inquired courteously.

The man let out a hearty chuckle, replying, “I’m Guo Jiumin. Feel free to call me Brother Guo.”

Brother Guo?

That form of address intensified the discomfort stirring in Xia Chuyi’s chest.

Naturally, Xia Chuyi refused to use it for Guo Jiumin; she merely offered a faint smile in silence.

Internally, though, she speculated: With the surname Guo, was he linked to G City’s Guo family?

Were the G City Guo family just churning out more eccentrics?

As these thoughts raced through Xia Chuyi’s mind, Guo Jiumin, still grinning broadly, cast a glance toward Huo Shiwu cradled in her arms.
