Garrett explains the concept of cells to the unicorns using detailed papers and projected images. He then demonstrates how to observe cells using a microscope, analyzing diseased tissue samples from Nana and Fira. Garrett confirms that mutated cells correlate with the severity of the disease. The unicorns retrieve Nana's body, now free of evil auras, and offer Garrett a unicorn horn as payment for his efforts to cure Fira.

Since Garrett was going to conduct proper research, he couldn't just keep using the mage's hut. Setting it up every morning and packing it away every evening, gathering all the instruments and stuffing them into a space bag before leaving—well, that just wasn't how serious research was done!

Now, seeing that this project was quite large, Garrett discussed with Elder Fashim and decided to set up a separate laboratory nearby.

A ready-made wooden cabin wouldn't do. Not to mention the gaps in the wood that would let in wind and dust—even if the wooden planks were grown into a single piece, microorganisms on the wood would still grow as they pleased. What a perfect breeding ground!

A laboratory that couldn't be doused in disinfectant, irradiated with ultraviolet light, or kept at a stable temperature and humidity, ensuring a clean and steady environment, was simply not a qualified lab!

So, Garrett chose a spot a bit farther away, and using  and , he molded a stone house with his bare hands. Fortunately, he was now an 11th-level mage, with ample magic power and a solid meditation core to support his spell control…

At least he could manage to keep the walls horizontal and vertical, with a 90-degree angle between the walls and the floor, making it look like a normal house.

Thank heavens, he only needed to build something like a cancer cell examination room—a place that was temperature-controlled, humidity-controlled, clean, with a changing area. If he had to create a P4 laboratory, Garrett might have had to flatten the site, pull out blueprints, and ask an elder to help him build it.

Once the lab was ready, Garrett quickly dove in. Dissection after dissection, he examined the beasts that had escaped from the contaminated zone, one after another on his operating table.

Elder Fashim hovered nearby, busy auditing his work. Sampling, sectioning, and staining could all be learned, but there was one thing he couldn't replicate:

"Cirilla! Freeze it!"

"Coming!"

The silver dragon girl happily skipped over and blew a breath, sending a cold wind sweeping across the petri dish, instantly turning the tissue into a block of solid ice. Garrett then moved it to the microtome and began slicing.

Elder Fashim silently prepared a similar tissue sample, raised his hand, and with a flick, a zero-level cantrip, , fell upon the tissue, freezing it into a block of ice.

He glanced at the microtome, raised his hand again, and shot out a thin beam of light that cut across the ice. Once, twice…

Slices thinner than a hair fell into the petri dish. The elder held his breath, using levitation magic to carefully lift one slice, transferring, staining, and observing it…

"Garrett, why can't I see any cells?"

"You probably sliced it too thick," Garrett replied without turning around.

"For frozen tissue slices, the thickness must be controlled between 3 to 5 micrometers. Even though you've sliced it very thin, it still doesn't meet the requirement of being less than a tenth of a hair's thickness."

The elder gasped. He continued experimenting. Not to be outdone by a legendary mage, he spread his mental energy finely and, after a pile of failed tissue slices had accumulated, he finally managed to slice a sample that met Garrett's standards.

Then, he continued staining and observing…

"Garrett, why can't I still see any cells?"

"Let me take a look…" Garrett leaned over, scanned the eyepiece, and immediately laughed.

"Elder, your freezing process is flawed. It was too slow! You need to freeze it to below minus 80 degrees in a split second to prevent the water inside the cells from crystallizing and piercing through the cells.  is just too weak!"

Elder Fashim: "…How should I do this?"

"I don't know! I just set the requirements, and Cirilla fulfills them…"

"Exactly!" The silver dragon girl nodded proudly, her delicate chin held high, parallel to the ground.

"Cirilla tried many times! It was a hassle, but Cirilla did it!"

"Yes! Cirilla is really amazing!" Garrett gazed at the silver dragon girl with admiration.

"You worked so hard! This was extremely difficult, and it's truly incredible how precisely you managed to control it!"

"Hehe…"

Elder Fashim silently turned away. Hey, I came to audit your work, not to watch you two compliment each other!

He had no choice but to practice on his own, and until he mastered it, he had to ask Cirilla for help. Meanwhile, Garrett's progress was racing forward; he had already dissected twenty to thirty beasts.

"Garrett, could you be a little more considerate of their lives?" Elder Fashim winced with sympathy.

"Even though they came from the contaminated zone, maybe they could still survive? Maybe they could be saved? Since we're working on this project, let's not kill every one we encounter!"

"Understood, Elder. In fact, I’ve almost finished with the beasts," Garrett replied. After dissecting dozens of them, he had a rough idea:

The rate of deformities in animals from the contaminated zone was alarmingly high. In fact, these deformities had altered their DNA, making it a stable, inheritable trait;

Among the deformed animals, the rate of detecting cancer cells was also unusually high. Of the twenty or thirty animals examined, not counting the juveniles or subadults, half of the adult, fully-grown animals had cancer cells.

So…

If the cancer cells could be eliminated, maybe, just maybe, it could save their lives?

Complete recovery was impossible. Animals living in such a polluted environment had undergone significant DNA mutations, irrevocably heading towards cancer. Killing off one batch of cancer cells would only lead to another batch in the future…

However, if the existing cancer cells were eradicated, the process of dividing and multiplying—doubling, then quadrupling—would be interrupted, forcing them to start over from a new baseline. This could at least extend the treated animal's life a little.

Garrett picked up a tusked rabbit. It was truly convenient to have a Nature’s Attendant as an assistant. He didn't need to raise the animals, calm them, cast calming spells on them, or even shave their fur…

Anari Linga had taken care of everything. Garrett only needed to perform an ultrasound, locate the tumor, then insert a long needle into the abdominal cavity, extract a sample, and perform a biopsy…

Yes, confirmed as cancer cells… All right, now let's try to annihilate them by referencing bacterial and viral annihilation techniques, locking onto the cancer cells with mental energy!

Garrett closed his eyes, focusing his mental energy on the cancer cells he had observed under the microscope. He raised his hand, then gently lowered it:

"Elder! Elder! Please sense the rabbit's vitality with your mental energy—sense its life force!"

"Understood!"

Elder Fashim and Anari Linga both extended their mental energy, locking onto the rabbit. Garrett slightly concentrated, activating the spell model:

Targeted Cancer Cell Annihilation Spell!

Initiate!

A faint magical wave swept over the rabbit's body. The next moment, the elder exclaimed:

"Its aura has changed! What's happening?—Oh no! It's about to die!"

Garrett: "…"

It seemed there were still many improvements needed for this targeted annihilation spell…
