honestly thought the whole no spirit root thing was going to be a way bigger deal for longer, but then this mystery woman shows up out of nowhere and just hands him the Supreme Demon Classic like it is a grocery list. it is a total power trip which i usually love, especially when he starts breaking the rules of how cultivation is supposed to work by focusing on his physical body and those weird demon bones. the part where he fights that arrogant sect leader's son in the rain felt a bit short though, it would have been cooler if they traded more blows before the main guy just overpowered him. i kept waiting for him to struggle with the demonic energy more since usually these books make a huge deal about losing your mind, but he seems to handle it way too easily for someone who was just a regular scholar a few chapters ago. the pacing is pretty fast, almost too fast sometimes when he is jumping between ranks, but the way he uses his bare hands to shatter spiritual weapons is top tier stuff. wish the translation did not trip over the technical terms for the breathing exercises so often, but if you want to see a guy with no talent absolutely wreck people who were born lucky, this is definitely the one.
