the red haired guy definitely handles getting slapped better than i would

actually thought this was going to be another boring power fantasy where the guy just gets everything handed to him, but Cale is honestly such a mood because he just wants to be a lazy slacker even though he keeps accidentally saving everyone. the part where he gets beat up by Choi Han in that dark alley right at the start felt a bit too brutal for a comedy setup, i actually felt kind of bad for the guy even if he was supposed to be a trashy noble. it's funny how he uses his knowledge of the book to steal all the ancient powers before the actual hero can get them, though i'm pretty sure he found that first shield power under a weird tree in the middle of the slums instead of a cave like i remembered. the pacing gets a bit clunky when they start talking about the secret organization politics for ten chapters straight, it makes my head spin trying to keep all the secondary villains straight. still, seeing him trick all these high-ranking knights into thinking he’s some selfless saint while he’s literally just trying to retire with a fat pile of cash is peak fiction, i just wish the updates came out faster because the cliffhangers are killing me.
