the main character is basically a walking menace to society

honestly stayed up way too late finishing the first arc because the way he handles that whole insurrection thing is just wild, like most protagonists try to be the hero but this guy is just out for blood and chaos. it’s pretty refreshing compared to the usual stiff cultivation tropes where everyone talks about honor for fifty chapters, here he just leans into the mayhem and doesn't look back even once. i did think the part where he uses that weird jade talisman to blow up the gate felt a bit like a cheap way out of a corner, the author probably should have set that up better or maybe i just missed a page while i was eating. some of the supernatural elements get a bit confusing too, like i'm still not 100% sure how the power scaling works with the ghosts or if they're even ghosts. super gritty vibe overall though. definitely not for people who want a soft story about making friends and learning life lessons from confucius, that's for sure.
