Lin Yuan is cool but those store management chapters drag

honestly thought the whole concept of the ancestral traits was going to be way more scary than it actually turned out to be, mostly it just feels like the author wanted a fancy way to let the main character upgrade his pets into legendary dragons or whatever. I really liked the part where he finally gets his hands on that Usnea plant and starts evolving it in his little shop, but the way he obsesses over the specific grades of spirit qi for like ten chapters straight made my eyes glaze over a bit. It is a solid power fantasy if you like watching a kid go from a total weakling with a broken spirit pool to basically a god, it just gets bogged down in the math of the evolution process sometimes, I swear I spent twenty minutes reading about him sorting different colored spirit fluids into jars. Still, the world building since the big awakening event a hundred years ago is pretty neat, even if I keep forgetting if he's supposed to be seventeen or nineteen because he acts like a middle-aged businessman half the time. Wish the side characters got a bit more shine instead of just being there to look shocked when he does something impossible for the fifth time in a row, but if you want a long read where the numbers always go up it hits the spot.
