Zombie Apocalypse: Reborn With A Farming Space Chapter 907 907: The New Dawn ( 3 )
Previously on Zombie Apocalypse: Reborn With A Farming Space...
Following the complete annihilation of the Matkuna Race by Utopia and Jiva, a significant number of the Matkuna soldiers who were assaulting human strongholds met their demise due to the cataclysmic natural disasters. With the absence of any spaceship interference, communication channels were finally re-established. Utilizing a satellite phone, Xun Che managed to connect with the other bases to ascertain their current situations.
The intergalactic onslaught had persisted for less than a day and a half before its abrupt conclusion. The immediate priority now was the systematic elimination of any remaining extraterrestrial threats on Earth, a grim task that included both zombies and mutated zombie animals. The fierce combat persisted along the fourth defensive wall of the Lin'an City Base, yet the esteemed Phantom Team found a brief respite.
Most of the team members sought rest within the hastily erected temporary tents situated near the wall. After consuming a meager meal, they retreated to get some much-needed sleep to recover their spent energy. Only Jin Xuyan departed from the encampment, making his way back to his personal residence.
Upon his arrival, he immediately proceeded to the bedroom to check on his fiancée. Observing that she and Du Beiye were still sound asleep, he proceeded to channel additional energy to aid their recovery.
Shen Jinyue prepared some food and inquired, "Captain, would you care to eat something first?" Although Jin Xuyan could sustain himself for several days without sustenance, he nonetheless nodded in agreement. Before partaking in the meal, he first took a refreshing shower and changed into a clean set of clothes.
As he ate, Shen Jinyue remained seated opposite him. Sensing her unspoken hesitation, Jin Xuyan prompted, "If there's something on your mind, please feel free to speak." After a brief period of silence, she finally posed her question, "Captain, how is Brother Feng Yun doing?"
Upon hearing this, he arched an eyebrow and retorted, "Instead of being concerned for your own brother, you're worried about Feng Yun?" Shen Jinyue lowered her head, remaining silent. Jin Xuyan had already sensed an unspoken connection between them when he observed Feng Yun attempting to distance himself while still discreetly sending her provisions.
However, he considered it a personal matter and had no intention of interfering. After a moment of contemplation, he stated, "He sustained injuries, but he should recover. He just…" The instant Shen Jinyue heard this, her face drained of color, and she abruptly stood up. She had heard rumors that individuals wounded by the alien adversaries were susceptible to parasitic infections, leading to a swift demise within days.
The mere thought of Feng Yun possibly succumbing to his injuries caused her heart to plummet. Without uttering another word, she rushed towards the exit, not even bothering to change her slippers before dashing out. Witnessing her panicked departure, Jin Xuyan could only sigh and move to close the door. Such youthful impetuousness; he hadn't even finished his sentence before she was gone.
Upon reaching the frontline, Shen Jinyue finally grasped the gravity of the unfolding situation. The distant sounds of explosions and gunfire filled the air. She hurried towards the infirmary, inquiring about any members of the Phantom Team, but received no sightings. Desperate, she ran towards the perimeter wall.
This time, she seized a passing individual and urgently asked, "Have you seen Feng Yun from the Phantom Team?" The woman, identified as a nurse, confirmed she had. Nodding, she pointed towards the area designated for temporary tents, stating, "He's over there." After expressing her gratitude, Shen Jinyue sprinted towards the tents.
Upon entering, she found Feng Yun seated on a chair, his torso bare, with his left arm heavily bandaged. A faint stain of blood on the dressing indicated that the wound was still actively bleeding. In that moment, her entire focus was solely on him. Disregarding the onlookers, she rushed forward and embraced him tightly.
The members of the Phantom Team, including Feng Yun himself, were taken aback by the sudden display. Shen Jinzhe's eyes narrowed as he observed his sister clinging to his comrade. "Brother Yun, I don't want you to die! Please don't die!! Waaa!!!" The outburst was followed by a torrent of tears before anyone could react.
Initially, Feng Yun was stunned and unsure of how to respond. However, upon hearing her desperate words, his expression softened, and he gently placed his right hand on her back, patting her comfortingly. "I won't die. Don't worry," he replied with a sense of helplessness.
Shen Jinyue wept for a considerable duration before gradually calming down. As she finally released him, she became aware of the collective gaze of the assembled group upon them. Meeting her brother's stern glare sent a shiver down her spine. "B-Brother…" Feng Yun drew her closer, shielding her from Shen Jinzhe's intense scrutiny.
This time, he resolved not to hold back. Unsure of how much time remained before the world's end, he no longer wished to procrastinate. Even facing his friend's potential wrath, he was determined not to yield. While most anticipated Shen Jinzhe would erupt in fury, he displayed unexpected composure. After several deep breaths, he stated, "We will address this once the situation has stabilized."
With that pronouncement, he stood and departed without a backward glance. Eager for any developing drama, the team members understood the inappropriateness of the moment. Reluctantly, they followed their leader, leaving Shen Jinyue and Feng Yun to themselves. Once they were alone, Feng Yun finally inquired, "Who informed you that I was injured?"
Her initial terror and surprise subsided, and Shen Jinyue recognized the foolishness of her actions. Her head bowed, she softly responded, "It was the Captain who informed me of your injuries."
"Even in my injured state, your presence here was unwise. It poses too great a risk," Feng Yun expressed with a sigh.
Upon hearing his words, Shen Jinyue lifted her gaze, her eyes glistening with unshed tears as she looked at him.
"Brother Yun, I refuse to believe you are oblivious to my affections. If your heart held no regard for me, why extend such kindness? Why send me those gifts?" she questioned, tears welling.
After a soft sob, she continued, "Was it amusing to toy with my emotions?"
Observing her distressed countenance, Feng Yun let out a breath and drew her into an embrace. "I never intended to trifle with your feelings, nor do I harbor any aversion towards you."
"Then why have you been evading me as if I were afflicted with a dreadful disease?"
Feng Yun nestled his face against the curve of her neck, his mind lost in contemplation.
