Gao Bohai and Li Sikai identify the destroyed site as Red Cliff Base, spotting traces of an escaped vehicle leading toward the city on the frozen river. They inform contacts that the base is secured by their organization and redirect search efforts along the tracks. The team digs caves into the cliff for shelter, cooks a meal from mutant beast meat, and awaits orders. Meanwhile, commoners are led to a vast underground pit at the base's center to mine black crystals, panicking upon realizing the lethal conditions imposed by the Herders.

Once those words left his mouth, the mutant twisted away and shut his eyes. Dwelling on his grim destiny, the youth stifled a sob while he chewed his food.

One hour passed before the mutant abruptly snapped open his eyes and scanned the room. All were deep in slumber. He rose to his feet, headed to the window, and peered at the scene outside.

Prior to infiltrating this spot with his squad, they had pored over the Red Cliff Base map. Though the base lay in ruins with most landmarks obliterated, he managed to pinpoint the central command structure.

He donned the mask and baseball cap, then slipped silently out the window.

For a Level Four mutant like him, dodging the guards proved effortless. He evaded them smoothly and reached the cliff zone before the stroke of midnight.

A band of mutants awaited his arrival there. Spotting him approach, one queried, "General Tolstoy, did you find that person?"

Richard Tolstoy shook his head, responding, "Today marks just our initial day. Locating the Herder won't be simple. He might not even be present."

At his statement, another lashed out with a kick at a nearby pebble, snarling, "Damn Morozov. Should I get my hands on him, I'll ensure his end is utterly brutal!"

Lifting his hand, Richard spoke evenly, "Time is scarce for us. Skip that topic for now. Our priority is figuring out how to get the people out."

He swept his gaze over the group and added, "As everyone sees, extended exposure to devil seeds ravages the flesh. Mutants like us endure slightly longer than ordinary folk before the radiation wrecks our forms."

With that, he pulled a tiny black crystal from his pocket and passed it to a youth. "Matt, deliver this to my cousin, Lustin."

Matt took the crystal and inquired, "General, any words for Commander Volkov?"

Richard pondered briefly before answering, "Simply inform him and my father of my safety. We'll relay word once we track down Borislav Morozov and his followers' whereabouts."

"Understood."

No sooner had Matt spoken than he vanished on the spot. Though youthful, he possessed a scarce power: invisibility. Combined with his wind ability, he served as the top courier in the whole unit.

Meantime, as the mutants plotted their next moves, Zhang Yuan and his Phantom Team comrades eavesdropped closely from beneath.

The cavern sat three meters underground. Thanks to their heightened senses, every word of their talk rang crystal clear.

Xiao Qi poked Zhang Yuan lightly and whispered, "Vice Captain, these mutants belong to Commander Lustin's crew. Shall we approach them?"

Zhang Yuan mulled it over and nodded. "They've sneaked into the mine already. Their inside help would make our task far smoother."

Upon saying so, Di Hansheng flicked his fingers. Instantly, gravity around them eased, letting them leap far higher with a mere push off the ground.

The instant Richard Tolstoy and his squad spotted figures bursting from under the cliff, they surged their energies, bracing for combat.

As Phantom Team hit the surface, they lifted their palms high, signaling peaceful intent.

Noting this, Richard signaled with a raised hand. His followers eased off but kept vigilant glares fixed on the arrivals.

"Who are you?" Richard demanded, eyes narrowing.

Positioned meters ahead, Zhang Yuan flashed his ID card. "I'm Zhang Yuan, Vice Captain of the Phantom Team out of Huaxia's Lin'an City Base."

Though a first encounter, Richard's crew knew of Phantom Team from tales shared by his father, Erast Tolstoy.

Thus, they traded looks post-introduction, with one stepping forward to inspect the card. Confirming the Lin'an City Base seal, she signaled approval to her comrades with a nod.

Identity confirmed, Richard probed, "What brings you here?"

"We're executing a mission and overheard your chat by chance. Sharing the aim of crushing the Herders, why not team up?" Zhang Yuan proposed.

Richard Tolstoy had suspected as much inwardly, yet his brows arched at the offer. He sized them up briefly, then queried, "Got a strategy?"

"Right now, my Captain plus team members scout the secret mountain base by the city core. Pending their intel, we'll probe the interior setup."

"Yet sneaking my squad into the mine undetected poses a challenge. You've breached it successfully, so handle inside recon— we'll back you from out here."

Zhang Yuan's pitch drew frowns from Richard's ranks.

After hushed debate among themselves, one retorted, "You admitted you can't enter. How exactly will you support us from outside?"

His words barely ended when slender ice needles streaked forth, halting mere millimeters from his eye.

By the time all grasped the peril, the man's complexion had drained white, his frame quaking. Overwhelmed by terror, his legs buckled, dropping him to his knees with a heavy thump.

Planted amid the frigid snow, he scarcely dared inhale deeply, knowing a single twitch could cost him his sight forever.
