Upon hearing her sister's question, Jiao Lizhi gave a firm nod. "I fear the bugs are the ones assaulting the base. This scenario mirrors the assault on the Lin’an City Base."
"Then we can't afford to delay any longer." With those words, Du Beiye continued, "Krayan, locate the Sthanam mines."
The two Systems linked to the satellites and swept over the whole of Turtle Island. Twenty minutes passed before Gaia's voice rang out in Jiao Lizhi's mind.
At this revelation, Jiao Lizhi studied the map closely, noting that the second Sthanam mine sat exactly where Fu Shenghan had picked up Wen Hanyu’s message.
She shared a quick glance with her sister, both nodding decisively. Du Beiye retrieved a motorbike from her inventory and called out, "Sister, climb on."
Gazing at the pitch-black motorbike, Jiao Lizhi grinned and remarked, "I didn't think you'd held onto it all this time."
"You gifted it to me. I carry it with me no matter where I travel."
Once her sister settled into the rear seat, Du Beiye fired up the engine and warned, "Grip tight. We're off!"
Her words barely landed when the motorbike emitted a deep growl and vanished in a blur. This machine harnessed the Tarakam Civilization’s most advanced technology.
Powered by Sthanam crystals, it surged at speeds multiple times beyond military jets, exceeding 30,000 km/h.
Such velocity defied possibility on the Blue Planet, yet it was commonplace in the Tarakam Civilization. Citizens zipped through space portals for routine trips, while commercial spacecraft dashed between worlds at light speed.
Encased in their battle suits, the pair sensed no jolt from the blistering pace. In just seconds, they arrived at the mountain.
Du Beiye killed the engine, tucked the motorbike back into her inventory, and inquired, "Sister, is this the spot?"
Jiao Lizhi hadn't responded yet when a deep rumble echoed from the mountain base. They triggered their battle suits' cloaking and edged forward stealthily.
Right then, guards chatted with a hulking figure. They'd never encountered Borislav Morozov face-to-face, but his image was familiar.
"What's he doing here?" Du Beiye whispered, brow furrowed.
Jiao Lizhi paused briefly before replying, "Looks like the Organization runs this site. We should retreat and alert the team first."
Slipping in to sabotage the facility would be simple now. However, extracting the Sthanam crystals demanded backup from their comrades.
Jiao Lizhi refused to gamble her security by seizing the crystals by force at this moment. Suppose unconsciousness overtook her once more?
That would leave her exposed, ripe for the Organization's grasp. Captured by the Matkuna Race, she'd surely become their test subject.
Du Beiye recognized the peril too and nodded. They withdrew unseen, speeding back to the team on the motorbike.
At the same time, Li Sikai and his squad pinpointed the mutants' hideaway.
With motorbike engines silenced, Feng Yun stored them in his space, then asked, "Brother Sikai, ready to head inside?"
Li Sikai scanned the area and nodded. The train station, long without power, lay shrouded in gloom. The group pulled out flashlights and descended into the subway.
Dried blood, muck, and decaying flesh coated the walls. Poor ventilation and no heat made the air dank, warmer than the outdoors.
A heavy, putrid odor slammed into them as they shoved open the glass door. Amid the rot lingered a metallic tang—the unmistakable reek of blood.
Pressing deeper, the men's faces twisted in disgust. The atmosphere carried a thick, musky fishiness, the telltale mark of mingled male and female fluids from sex.
Pei Yixie boasted encyclopedic learning from her studies, yet this aroma baffled her completely. She wrinkled her nose at the whiff.
She clamped her nostrils and mumbled through her hand, "Rotten fish must be spoiling here. This stench is unbearable."
Fu Guai's eyes twitched upon hearing her. He shot her a look and fished a handkerchief from his pocket.
He passed it to her and murmured softly,
Sensing his inner intent, Pei Yixie accepted it readily. Covering her nose with the cloth eased her discomfort greatly.
His handkerchief held a distinctive aroma, subtle pine mingled with rain-soaked soil. It soothed her nerves, bringing peace. Without realizing, she inhaled deeply multiple times and sighed contentedly.
Innocent to any impropriety, she carried on, but the men shot knowing looks at Fu Guai. He turned away bashfully, ears flushing pink, drawing their playful stares.
Venturing deeper into the subway, Li Sikai caught faint voices ahead. He signaled with a raised hand for the team to halt.
Quick gestures followed, met with nods. Flashlights clicked off, footsteps hushed, they hugged the walls. Blanketed by shadows, they steadied breaths to minimize detection.
Peering from cover, Li Sikai spotted three men huddled at a tiny table, dealing cards and munching jerky.
From afar, the jerky appeared ordinary. Yet given scarce resources and mutant beasts' power, chances it came from those beasts remained slim.
