Gripping her twin daggers firmly, Jiao Lizhi narrowed her gaze. She channeled her power into her feet. In the blink of an eye, she vanished from her position and materialized behind the mutant wolf.
As a Level 6 mutant, her velocity greatly outpaced the team members. By pouring her energy into boosting her pace, she now rivaled a Level 5 speed-type mutant.
The instant she reappeared, a fierce kick from her sent the mutant wolf soaring through the air.
Thud!
Before the mutant wolf could respond, it was launched airborne. Midway through its flight, Jiao Lizhi flashed in front of it, slashing her daggers in a deadly cross pattern.
Slash! Slash!
The blades carved through the mutant wolf's flesh like it was soft butter. The high-velocity water coating the edges sliced effortlessly past its tough fur.
Agony ripped a shrill, prolonged howl from the wolf's throat. It crashed heavily onto the ground.
Blood gushed from the deep gash in its belly. Whimpering, it struggled to rise, eyes locked warily on Jiao Lizhi while dragging its injured form backward.
At this sight, Jiao Lizhi lifted her hand, and the mutant wolf vanished into her space in the next instant.
Trapped within the space, the injured wolf grew frantic. It scanned desperately for its pack, but only endless grassland stretched around it.
Back outside, Jiao Lizhi hurried to her team and stored the other mutant wolves in her space. Stunned by the feat, Xiao Qi blurted, "Sister-in-law, you can actually store living animals!"
Jiao Lizhi gave a nod and said, "I can, but they die right after entering my space."
"That’s incredible! I can’t store living animals at all."
Jiao Lizhi smiled at that but stayed silent.
Realizing this, the team shifted from slaying the mutant beasts to corralling them, allowing her to pull them into her space.
Her space slew the mutant beasts upon entry, sparing the team the effort of finishing them off.
As they rounded up the mutant wolves, Jin Xuyan clashed fiercely with the pack leader.
Over mere minutes, hundreds of strikes had flown between them. Initially dominant, the mutant wolf gradually sensed its foe was toying with it.
Enraged and shamed, the mutant wolf snarled deeply, then gaped its jaws wide. A powerful water pillar blasted toward him at blinding speed.
Spotting the attack, Jin Xuyan leaped upward and thrust out his palm.
Boom!
Upon striking the earth, the water pillar gouged a vast crater, kicking up dense dust clouds. The blast's shockwave ravaged the area, shattering nearby objects with raw force.
Eyes narrowing, Jin Xuyan met the oncoming energy surge with his fire barrier. He condensed the flames into an ironclad shield.
The impact shoved him back, depositing him 20 meters from the pit.
Murderous light flickered in the mutant wolf's icy blue eyes as it fixed on him.
"Grrrhhh..." With a guttural rumble, it threw its head back. "Awwooo!!!"
Instantly, a massive water sphere coalesced overhead.
In response, Jin Xuyan charged forward. Mere meters away, he whipped his longsword toward the mutant wolf's throat.
Yet the strike never connected; the water sphere shattered into myriad razor-thin blades hurtling at him.
With a swift gesture, Jin Xuyan summoned a towering black firewall before him. Another flick sent it surging at the mutant wolf.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Water blades met firewall in explosive bursts, vaporizing into thick mist that blinded the mutant wolf.
By the time it spotted Jin Xuyan again, his longsword had plunged straight into its chest. Black flames erupted from the blade, incinerating it from within before it could twitch.
Yanking free his longsword, Jin Xuyan booted the writhing mutant wolf. It thrashed on the ground, shrieking in torment.
Within 20 seconds, its heart crumbled to ash, ending its life. A casual wave recalled the black flames into his body.
The skirmish wrapped in under 10 minutes, leaving just the leader's huge corpse. The team, accustomed to such displays, reformed as Jiao Lizhi claimed the body in her space.
Pressing onward, the group chatted about grilling the mutant meat. Before departing, Qin Luzi cast a lingering look at a rundown building 200 meters off.
Inside, a band of mutants flinched under his distant stare.
"Boss, does he know we’re hiding here?" one woman ventured.
The fortysomething man frowned and shook his head. "We’re over 200 meters out. No way he senses us."
"Boss, with the mutant beasts gone, we can head out to Red Cliff Base now."
The others nodded eagerly; three-plus months trapped here had worn them down.
Mutant beasts had blocked supply runs since appearing. Luck saved them with a stocked underground stash, staving off starvation.
Weighing options, their boss declared, "We hold off a few days longer."
"Boss, that team cleared the path—perfect time to go. Delay more, and those freaks might come back!" the woman pressed urgently.
