Zombie Apocalypse: Reborn With A Farming Space Chapter 2 2: The Beginning Of The Doomsday

Previously on Zombie Apocalypse: Reborn With A Farming Space...
Amid a chaotic zombie siege on a rooftop at sunset, exhausted survivor Ah Zhi battled the undead horde with her dwindling water abilities, already wounded and on the brink of collapse. Her team, including a protected and unscathed companion harboring malice and jealousy, struggled to hold the line as reinforcements neared. Seizing the desperate moment, the betrayer pushed Ah Zhi off the roof into the zombie tide, dooming her to a gruesome death. In her final agony, Ah Zhi glimpsed her trusted friend's hatred and heard a man's desperate cry of her name before darkness claimed her.

In the sprawling metropolis of Lin'an City, one of Huaxia's biggest urban centers, a dense fog enveloped everything. The sun peeking over the eastern skyline burned with a crimson hue deeper than fresh blood as it inched upward.

Beneath that blood-red glow, the metropolis lay in an unnatural hush, transformed into a spectral wasteland. No canine howls pierced the quiet, much less the roar of vehicles or the rushed steps of commuters heading to their jobs.

Higher the sun rose, and the fog thinned away, unveiling a chilling vibe of impending catastrophe.

Once the haze vanished entirely, a body in the hospital's morgue twitched to life. Rot spread across its skin at a pace the eye could follow, but the form rose rigidly from the gurney. Eyes clouded to a milky pallor, while claws and fangs elongated into razor-like points.

Moving along, it emitted a guttural rumble akin to a feral animal's snarl. Detecting the tempting scent of fresh prey nearby, its rigid frame shuffled swiftly to the entrance. The aroma of alive humans pulled it nearer, igniting the primal craving within.

Stopped by the metal barrier, it lifted its festering arms and pounded against it, unleashing a thunderous clang that reverberated through the deserted corridor.

BANG!

The dozing security officer snapped alert from the noise, almost tumbling off his seat in the adjacent booth. Before he could glance at the surveillance feed, a putrid reek of decaying meat invaded his senses.

Wrinkle forming on his brow from the vile smell, he swiveled to question his partner—only for a decomposed visage to lunge at him.

"Roar!!" The putrid cadaver bellowed with jaws agape, baring its jagged dental array.

The officer had no time to respond before fangs plunged into his throat, sending crimson jets spraying high. As the jaws ripped into his tissue, he gurgled crimson and stared in bulging terror.

His quivering arm stretched toward the exit as a feeble cry escaped, "H-Help…"

Soon after, gruesome noises of muscle shredding and bones crunching echoed in the space. Crimson spread across the tiles, spurring the decayed fiend into a wild binge as it devoured the officer's gray matter.

Such horrors unfolded across every nook of the city.

Within mere minutes past the half-hour mark, chaos erupted and raced unchecked. The undead's howls got lost amid the widespread yells and wails of the populace.

Right then, in a girls' dorm room at Lin'an University, a young woman rested on her mattress. Sweat soaked her ashen features while fever-fueled nightmares gripped her.

Even as she lay insensate, the world beyond her door had plunged into infernal torment. Desperate pleas from the living blended with the hideous racket of undead gorging on the flesh of the quick.

Bang!

Out in the hall, a student got thrust into a door by one clad in a white gown. She and her pals had attempted escape, but a peer sacrificed her as a barrier.

Crashing down, agony lanced through her wrenched foot, and she yelled in fury, "Bitch, how dare you push me?!"

Lifting her gaze, she watched the pusher bolt off with the others without a backward look. Abandoned, terror and dread flooded her instantly.

She gaped at their retreating figures in fright. Her tone quaked with hopelessness as she shrieked, "W-wait, please wait for me!"

Ignoring the throb in her leg, she hauled herself upright and limped onward. Sadly, her speed lagged far behind the pursuing horde of decayed monsters.

Just steps from the safe stairwell, a festering grip exploded from her back through her gut. Dazed, she gazed at the vile limb piercing her, her thoughts frozen in disbelief.

Sensation of torment hit only when the limb seized her innards and ripped them free. Then she unleashed a shrill wail of suffering, "Ahhh!!!"

Before grasping the nightmare, the undead pack swarmed her. She toppled, then got mauled and consumed while still breathing. Her cries dwindled as her form was ravaged and vitality ebbed from her mangled remains.

The nightmarish ordeal dragged on for a full day until the remaining souls fled the campus or barricaded themselves from the undead.

As daylight faded to the west, fog regrouped, worsening their scant sight even more.

Within the girls' residence, clusters of folks sheltered in secured chambers.

Not a soul risked heavy breaths or words, terrified of luring the undead prowling beyond. Ignorance reigned about the crisis or if authorities would arrive for salvation.

In the heavy quiet and choking atmosphere, the undead roamed without purpose after losing their quarry.

With the sun gone from view, the moon climbed into the dark vault above. Far from its normal silvery grace, it loomed bigger and forebodingly scarlet, stained as if with gore.

Under that strange crimson lunar light, the undead stirred restlessly. Their actions sped up and gained fluidity, rigid joints now capable of subtle curves.

In the chamber, the feverish girl at last fluttered her lids open. Gazing at the ceiling both known and strange, she propped herself and scanned the space blankly.

Vertigo struck, so she clutched her skull and rasped, "Aren't I dead already?"
