Wizard: Unlimited Profession Slots Chapter 862 - 382: Plucking the Line of Destiny

At the north side of the estate, a dedicated platform hosts the Storm Clan’s private spacecraft. This is a medium-sized vehicle, elegantly designed. Its shell, crafted from specially treated "mica steel," reflects a pale blue metallic sheen under the sun’s rays. Four "storm cores" are suspended beneath it, each emitting steady energy fluctuations, serving as the spacecraft’s power source.
“This spacecraft is one of our family’s prized possessions,” Cassius stated with pride, his hand gently stroking the smooth hull. “Though it was constructed over a century ago, its performance remains dependable.”
Ron carefully examined the spacecraft’s construction. Despite its older design, the craftsmanship was undeniably exquisite. The intricate layout of the rune circuits, in particular, showcased the maker’s profound technical expertise.
“Does your family have a background in vehicle manufacturing?” he inquired, his interest piqued.
“Not precisely a tradition, more of a personal pursuit,” Cassius replied humbly, initiating the spacecraft’s startup sequence. “An ancestor of our family harbored a great passion for various magical machinery during his lifetime, leaving behind numerous design blueprints and partially completed projects.”
With a slight tremor, the spacecraft gracefully ascended. Through the porthole, Ron gained a panoramic view of the entire Storm Clan estate. The ancient structures appeared majestic and beautiful in the morning light, complemented by thoughtfully designed surrounding courtyards.
However, he simultaneously noted certain details: some of the more remote buildings clearly showed signs of neglect, with damaged roofs and walls. Devices in the courtyards were also in a state of disrepair, an evident measure to conserve maintenance funds. These observations suggested that the Storm Clan’s financial standing might not be as robust as it initially appeared.
“I believe it’s important to provide you with a detailed explanation regarding our family’s current situation,” Cassius said, seemingly sensing Ron’s scrutiny. He initiated the spacecraft’s autopilot and turned to Ron, ready for a candid discussion. “While we are recognized as an old clan with considerable standing in the Central Lands, we are, to be frank, facing numerous difficulties at present.”
He continued, his voice tinged with a sense of helplessness, “Firstly, there is the issue of talent. With the exception of Eliot, the younger generation within our clan possesses rather… unremarkable aptitudes.”
This self-deprecating remark significantly improved Ron’s opinion of Cassius. Being able to objectively assess his family’s circumstances indicated a practical mindset.
“Secondly, there is the matter of power distribution,” Cassius elaborated. “Currently, I am the only resident Moonlight Level Mage within the family. The other peers of my generation are either serving in significant posts elsewhere or are engaged in Lady Cassandra’s expedition to another world.”
“How formidable are those clan members who have ventured abroad?” Ron asked, growing more curious about the Storm Clan’s overall strength.
“At present, there are three others at the Moon Level, just like myself,” Cassius admitted frankly. “My elder brother, Carl, holds the position of deputy dean at the ’Aurora Academy.’ My cousins, Vida and Reynard, are currently accompanying Lady Cassandra in the conquest of another world.”
“Regarding the Dark Sun Level…” Cassius’s demeanor grew somber. “Our family currently has only one Dark Sun Level Wizard, my great-grandfather. However, he has not been seen in the Main World for years, reportedly engaged in a long-term research project in some otherworld.”
“Is this situation typical for the Central Lands?” Ron continued his inquiries, hoping to gather more information on high-tier Wizard demographics.
“Extremely common,” Cassius nodded. “For wizards at the Dark Sun Level and above, the environment of the Main World is no longer sufficient to support their research requirements. They must seek opportunities for breakthroughs in more challenging and perilous environments.”
He paused briefly, gazing out the window. “This is also why, despite the Central Lands having a high density of wizards, high-tier combat power appears comparatively scarce. The majority of powerful individuals are pursuing their respective explorations in the Abyss or otherworlds.”
It appeared that as wizards attained greater strength, they gradually detached from traditional societal structures, gravitating towards more solitary paths of development. Ron nodded in agreement, a sentiment that resonated with his own observations. He had spent considerable time in the Central Lands and had rarely encountered individuals at the Great Wizard Level, apart from Cassandra and Uther. Even Dark Sun Level wizards were seldom seen, except perhaps during significant festive occasions.
The instructors typically encountered within the academy generally held strength only at the Morning Star Level.
"Therefore, does the implementation of this conquest policy carry any significant effect on the current circumstances?"
He posed the question with sharp insight.
Upon the mention of this subject, a complicated expression immediately flickered across Cassius's gaze.
"The impact is indeed substantial."
His tone grew heavier:
"In the past, it was virtually unfeasible for Mages at the Moon Level to engage in explorations of other worlds.
Such journeys across boundaries demanded immense energy reserves, something exclusively attainable by wizards of the Dark Sun Level and higher."
"However, the situation has changed now."
Cassius's voice carried a palpable sense of envy:
"Lady Cassandra's expert command over transportation technology has granted us Moon Level Mages the privilege to tap into the resources of other worlds.
These exotic materials, one-of-a-kind technologies, and a multitude of unexplored research avenues..."
He left the sentence unfinished, yet the longing clearly visible in his eyes conveyed the rest.
"Do you also harbor a desire to take part in the conquest initiative?"
