"Name."
"Vicken Yu."
"Yu? Tell me, boy, are you a member of the Jade Qilin family?"
"I am. My mother is the Yu Feng Knight, Sai Fa."
"I see... very well. Let us evaluate your talent first, and then we shall find a place for you within the academy."
The crystal ball began to pulse with light, revealing a talent anomaly that resembled the Children of Chaos. Earth, Fire, Wind, and Water swirled together in a chaotic convergence that left the onlookers stunned.
"Oh... could I have made an error?"
The young woman conducting the test was visibly shaken.
A Child of Chaos?
It felt like a joke; this boy was a direct descendant of the Jade Qilin lineage. Aside from his grandfather, his entire immediate family—his mother, father, aunt, and even his cousins—were all Children of the Elements. Possessing at least a double affinity or a special talent, they were hailed as the premier clan serving the Hall Master couple on the Ancient Dragon Continent.
In comparison to his kin, Vicken appearing as a Child of Chaos seemed remarkably mediocre.
"Is something wrong? Are Children of Chaos not permitted to enroll?"
Vicken looked visibly anxious; he was well aware that his perceived talent was nothing extraordinary.
"No, you can enroll. Please hold on a moment; I want to attempt the test again with a more advanced instrument."
The young witch returned, carrying a different crystal ball.
This device was the Arcane Heart, a specialized talent tester recently developed by the Caster’s Association specifically for Arcanists. In the past, the Arcane Academy had relied on standard Wizard criteria for their evaluations, despite the subtle distinctions between the two paths.
This time, the light within the crystal ball erupted with blinding intensity.
The young lady’s eyes bulged in shock, her jaw dropping completely open.
At the core of the crystal, the four anomalies of Earth, Water, Wind, and Fire surged upward. Hovering above them in the empty void was a throne of shimmering white, topped by a crown of pure gold. A specialized talent of this nature was completely unprecedented.
"Wait, please excuse me... this is beyond my understanding. I must fetch the Dean."
She scrambled away to summon the head of the academy.
Before long, an Elder with silver hair, exuding the powerful pressure of an eighth-circle expert, arrived in haste. Upon witnessing the vision within the crystal ball, his eyes trembled as he whispered:
"This... this is an Arcane Talent mentioned only in the most ancient of scrolls. I had dismissed it as mere myth, yet here it is in the flesh."
"Dean, what exactly is this talent?"
"The Arcane Throne."
"Is it truly that formidable?"
"According to the annals of history, only one individual has ever been recorded to possess it—the very progenitor of our Arcane civilization... the Arcane Emperor Osserrel!"
"What?!"
The entire room was instantly plunged into a state of shock.
Osserrel was the legendary founder of the Otharian Empire.
It was whispered that he was the man who had walked closest to the realm of God.
Tragically, historical accounts claim the Arcane Emperor met his end during the research of a tenth-circle Arcane spell, leading to his untimely death and disappearance. Shortly after his fall, the Otharian Empire was decimated by the terror bug calamity, vanishing in a heartbeat and eventually retreating underground to transform into the Bug Luminist civilization.
Vicken’s nervousness only intensified.
What were these people muttering about with such religious fervor?
He was certainly familiar with the legends of the Arcane Emperor; it was his deep admiration for the man’s legacy that had driven him to apply to the Arcane Academy in search of a greater challenge. The real question for him was whether this unique talent was actually useful.
In truth, he had been mentally prepared to struggle through life on "hell difficulty" with his Child of Chaos talent. Now, it appeared the difficulty of his journey had suddenly plummeted.
Several powerful figures soon arrived on the scene.
The beautiful, now-married Sai Fa appeared alongside her husband—a brilliant Wizard from the Tower of Dawn and a Child of the Elements with a seven-ring Cultivation. Even Levi made an appearance.
Upon observing Vicken’s talent, Levi’s gaze sharpened. He immediately summoned Leon back from the Mother River, sending a mental command:
"Investigate Vicken’s previous incarnations for me."
"As you wish, Master."
Nearby, Sai Fa was buzzing with excitement after hearing the Dean’s explanation.
She hadn’t actually expected much from Vicken; after all, he had been tested shortly after birth and labeled a mediocre Child of Chaos. Even though the era had changed—with Truth Oddities available to alter one's fate and elemental Qi becoming more concentrated—the cost of Cultivation was a factor.
With his original talent, it wasn't impossible to train him as a Wizard using massive amounts of wealth and time, but it wasn't efficient. Had Vicken lacked Knight blood, they might have forced the issue, but since he carried the Mythical Bloodline of the Jade Qilin, there was no reason to ignore the strength already within him. However, as progressive parents, they hadn't blocked his desire to join the Arcane Academy.
She had assumed he would eventually give up on his own. Yet, by some stroke of luck, he had manifested a peak-tier Arcane Talent. This changed everything; he had to be nurtured. If he became the leading Arcanist of the age, the prestige of the Jade Qilin family would reach new heights!
Even the Hall Master, who had been in deep seclusion for years, was stirred—a testament to the gravity of the situation.
Levi watched the bewildered young boy and asked quietly.
"Leon, have you found anything?"
"Yes. In his most recent past life, he was a dog."
"How far back can you trace his soul’s journey?"
"Master, given my current level, I can look back through ten thousand lifetimes."
"Never mind that. See if you can find a link to the reincarnation of Osserrel."
"I shall try, Master."
Levi had never bothered to look for the Arcane Emperor’s soul before. It wasn't due to a lack of effort, but rather because he believed that rebirths without retained memories had nothing to do with the present. He didn't enjoy invading the privacy of reincarnated souls.
After a significant amount of time, Leon wiped sweat from his brow and reported:
"Master, I have confirmed it. There is a direct link between Osserrel and Vicken. Vicken is his reincarnation, exactly 9,527 lives later..."
"Why were there so many cycles?"
