Wizard starting from shoeing donkeys Chapter 1520 - 523: Jennifer’s Crisis (Part 2)
Previously on Wizard starting from shoeing donkeys...
Is it possible... that Rein has run into trouble?
Otherwise, it's tough to make sense of this situation.
Still, these were merely ideas swirling in Jennifer's thoughts; she had no intention of voicing them.
"Bang!"
All at once, the door to the room burst open with a forceful kick!
A well-known silhouette slammed hard into the bookshelf by the doorway, accompanied by a recognizable low groan.
"Lord Viery!" Georgia cried out!
It turned out to be Viery, the loyal follower of Rein, who had been hurled right through the entrance.
"Stay back!"
Lagaray seized the charging Georgia, giving her a firm shake of the head, then swiftly grabbed a one-handed axe along with a hefty shield, standing protectively in front of the stunning Jennifer.
Long years navigating the cutthroat world of commerce kept Jennifer steady amid the chaos, yet her face grew equally grave, since the covert alert from the Duke of Mingster had prompted her to summon all her guards to secure the estate.
On top of that, she had made a point to alert Viery, Rein's attendant and a member of the Mingster Swordsmen Division.
What caught Jennifer off guard was how swiftly the foes had arrived and the sheer might they wielded.
Right now, the mansion's perimeter guards lay eerily quiet, making it clear that, aside from Viery's brief show of fight, the rest had been stealthily eliminated by the intruders.
"Hurry! Get the lady out of here now!" Viery rasped out painfully, coughing up blood while struggling to rise.
"Tsk tsk, so you're Viery—decent power, but too bad you've crossed paths with us." A towering figure clad in dark armor, gripping a knight's blade, stepped inside while mocking.
Yet he didn't come solo; three additional figures in black hoods trailed in right behind him.
Among them, two donned wizard robes that faintly pulsed with spiritual energy, whereas the third sported a cloak where glimpses of elaborate gold and silver embroidery peeked through, akin to the bespoke garments favored by elite nobles.
"Titled Knight, Crystallization Wizard!"
Lagaray's striking eyes tightened a fraction; she quickly realized these intruders hailed from some mighty imperial faction.
It explained why the dozen top guards posted around the estate had been silently neutralized. Without Viery's presence, they might not have even noticed in time.
Such a formidable squad could only be fielded by a premier noble house on par with Mingster's Bavarian clan.
"Oh? What lovely women— and a barbarian beauty to boot, delightful." The cloaked man, apparently of noble birth, eyed Jennifer and Lagaray with obvious glee.
"So, you're after us specifically, aiming to leverage us against Lord Rein?" Jennifer pieced it together sharp from the enemy's taunt.
"Oh, keeping your cool, huh? Waiting for your Rein to swoop in and save the day, or banking on the Duke of Mingster's backup?" The foe regarded them casually, a smirk playing on his lips.
"Too bad—forget if the Duke of Mingster would even bother risking aid, supposing he did, our forces would cut them off anyway."
"And as for your Rein, he's barely hanging on himself; you ladies likely don't know yet. Here's a complimentary imperial tidbit: your Lord Rein got beaten and locked up by the Avatar of the Nether Sea Goddess, and he may never return."
The enemy wagged a finger teasingly before them, his voice laced with mocking amusement.
At those words, Jennifer and Lagaray both jolted inwardly, their faces shifting in dismay.
Had disaster truly struck?
What's more, these adversaries weren't just strong—they knew far too much, fully grasping the close bonds linking Rein to Mingster Province's mightiest Bavarian lineage.
"What? Still thinking of putting up a fight?"
"Look here—this is the skull of one who tried; he packed some punch and you ought to recognize him." One Crystallization Wizard pulled a completely stone-encased head from his robe.
The features on that head bore no fear, just eyes blazing with fury and regret.
"Brother!" Georgia wailed, tears pouring freely down her cheeks.
If Lagaray hadn't clamped down on her with iron grip, Georgia would have lunged ahead already.
"Oh? So he was your kin—such a shame."
"Three gorgeous women, surrender right away and the Marquis might spare you a path forward; else, you'll end up as pretty ornaments in my garden." The Crystallization Wizard clutching Fandar's turned-to-stone head quipped lightly.
"Go!"
In that instant, Jennifer appeared to trigger a hidden mechanism beneath the mahogany desk, and a shimmering barrier sprang up within the chamber, dividing them from the foes.
At the same time, a section of wall behind Jennifer slid aside, uncovering a hidden escape route.
"Planning to flee? How foolish."
One Crystallization Wizard lifted his arm, summoning a pointed stone spike over three meters in length that materialized ahead and hurled itself at the glowing barrier.
"Boom!"
The see-through shield trembled fiercely; it held firm but looked on the verge of collapse.
"Oh? It withstood that?"
As this Crystallization Wizard geared up for another strike, out of nowhere, Viery hauled his battered frame forward, brandishing his massive sword in a powerful downward Leap Slash.
"Clang!!!"
Yet the strike got effortlessly parried by the armored brute, who retaliated with a brutal boot to Viery's gut, launching him airborne through the wall and tumbling across the mansion's lawn outside.
