Wizard starting from shoeing donkeys Chapter 1477 - 507: Terrio’s Decision (3)

General Randall and Congressman Nelson solidify their political alliance, trading military support for legislative favor. At the Ressero Canyon camp, an urgent directive scatters the group, sending Hernandez to defend against sea beasts and Haleem to pursue a breakthrough in his cultivation. While Rein departs for Zetaya to meet an incoming delegation, Sword Saint Terrio remains behind to receive Lord Alvin, an arrogant Fire Element Dawn Wizard arriving to investigate the ruins.

The reason he was selected likely stemmed from Haleem’s report, which noted that High Rank Fire Witchcraft possesses a specific neutralizing effect against the black fog found within the ruins.

"It is not just myself; Lord Garrett is scheduled to arrive within the hour as well."

"Hmm? It appears the Military Department’s intentions go beyond a simple inquiry this time," Terrio remarked, his brow furrowed.

If the goal was merely to gather information, Alvin would not have been the logical candidate for the mission.

The mobilization of two Epic level powerhouses simultaneously suggested that the Military Department had significant follow-up objectives in mind given the current climate.

"Indeed, Lord Terrio. We are here not only to receive your detailed account of the situation but also with the expectation that you will assist us in a preliminary exploration. To be clear, this isn't a personal plea from me, but a directive from the Federation Congress."

While speaking, Alvin passed a written notice to Terrio.

"If the Congress has decided, I shall do my utmost to provide cooperation," Terrio replied, nodding after a brief scan of the document.

Deep down, however, a sense of dread began to take root.

A preliminary exploration? Something felt fundamentally wrong about this.

Before Terrio could voice his doubts, Alvin spoke up first with a question:

"Lord Terrio, is it true that the exit you used cannot be re-entered? If my information is correct, that portal is gate number three, which connects directly to the second basement level of the Floating City, is it not?"

"That is correct, but the door is remarkably resilient, and we set off the security alarms during our escape. Attempting to return that way could pit us against unknown threats," Terrio explained with a somber expression.

"That is unfortunate. It appears we must begin from the upper levels to descend toward the third basement level."

"What? You intend to reach the third basement level?" Terrio’s eyes widened as he stared at Alvin in shock.

"Naturally. Surely, Lord Terrio, you didn't assume Lord Garrett and I were merely passing the time? Reaching the third basement level is only a minor objective," Alvin remarked, sounding slightly irritated.

"This is no time for jests, Lord Alvin. You have no conception of the perils lurking down there."

"On the contrary! Provided your data is accurate, the most formidable mechanical foe you faced was the Prototype. Lord Garrett’s lightning spells are capable of short-circuiting mechanical constructs across a wide radius, and I will handle any monsters birthed from that black fog."

"With a team of our caliber, I am confident we can peel back the mysteries of these Floating City Ruins. Don't you agree, Lord Terrio?"

"I do not! You haven't stepped foot inside. Even if the Federation Congress has issued a decree, I maintain the right to my own judgment. I will guide you to the entrance of the second basement level at most; beyond that, I am withdrawing. That is my final word."

The warning Rein had given him remained vivid in Sword Saint Terrio’s mind.

He had been cautioned specifically not to venture into the third basement level without absolute certainty of success.

Furthermore, Terrio felt no personal motivation to delve deeper into the Floating City Ruins. As a Sword Saint, it was highly improbable that further exploration would yield any treasures or insights to further refine his combat power.

What troubled him most was the arrogance of Alvin and the Military Department’s team.

By referring to the "third basement level" as a minor target, it was clear they were trivializing the hidden dangers residing within the ruins.

"If that is your stance, Lord Terrio, then we shall not trouble you with the upcoming expedition. I will recommend to the Military Department that Sword Saint Guiterrez be summoned instead."

Alvin’s face darkened as he spoke.

Guiterrez?

The mention of that name caused Terrio’s face to twist with displeasure.

Every warrior in the Federation was aware of the friction between him and Guiterrez; the suggestion of a replacement was a blatant provocation.

"Fine then, I shall take my leave. I wish you the best of luck, Lord Alvin."

Bristling with indignation, Terrio threw out those final words and turned his back to depart.
