What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company? Chapter 946: Do We Need To Grind?
Previously on What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?...
I looked around me as the character I created, which ironically was made to look like myself, appeared in some kind of hub in some space station.
The reason why I made myself was mainly because I’m just used to creating this character and didn’t really want to spend too much time fussing over the details for a new character.
Because I know if I was going to make a new character, I would at least spend more than an hour trying to make it and I don’t want to make Ries wait for me... Especially when this is just supposed to be something I’m only playing for a while.
"Boss!!" A voice came from behind me, prompting me to turn around.
My line of sight was directed downwards at where Ries would be in real life but... All I saw was a pair of muscled thighs that were thicker than my neck.
I then slowly looked up to see a really muscular and really big catgirl with shoulders wider than me standing there with a cheerful look on her face.
"Hey Boss!! You actually made yourself? Nyahahaa! Are you sure that’s a good idea though? People are going to recognise you outside in real life at this rate!"
"Please don’t tell me you want to be this big in real life..." I muttered.
She chuckled, "Nyahahaha! Of course not, Boss! This is just a game after all! Besides... I like the way I am because... Ehehe~ You go really deep inside me when you carry me up~"
I chose not to say anything about that but instead, look down at myself in concern, "Do you think I should change how I look after all?"
She shrugged, "Sure. Just go back to the character page and make a new character."
I sighed and did just that, though I ended up just importing the character I made and changed her hair colour from white to black and made her boobs and hips smaller as compared to me before accepting the new character.
Hopefully this was enough...
I appeared in the same place again, finding Ries waiting for me there with her same hulking character model.
She smirked at my new character but chose not to comment on it, "Welcome back, Boss! Ready to go?"
I looked around me, "I guess? What are we supposed to do?"
"You can go claim your starter ship first! We’ll need to grind a little bit to get the Verlandi here and it’s considered a premium ship."
I grimaced, "It’s not a starter ship?"
"Nyahahaha! Of course not, Boss! It’s one of the ships that has the highest stats for each class in the game! Of course we’ll have to work for it!"
"And... How long does it take to grind for the ship?"
"Hmm... If we do the high risk and high reward jobs... I think we could earn enough to afford one in a few months~ That’s assuming we don’t get PK-ed by other players of course~"
I blinked at her, "Ries... Are you seriously asking me to just play this game continuously for the next few months?"
Ries blinked at me, "How else are we supposed to get the ship to challenge that guy?"
"I dunno... I mean... We do have a life outside of this, you know?"
She waved her hand, "Oh it will be fine, Boss! We can just hop on whenever we have time! This doesn’t need to be a full time thing!"
As much as I wouldn’t mind playing a game together with Ries... No offense but I’m now literally living the real life that is being shown in the game and I much prefer the real life version.
And if I play this, it would feel like I’m literally starting over with nothing in my pocket and that feeling absolutely sucks.
I’m not going to restart my ’life’ again... Especially since the rest of my girls won’t be in here and it kind of feels like a worse off universe because of that.
"Is there another way to get the ship without grinding?" I asked.
Ries grinned, "There is, actually... A way to get the ship almost immediately without needing to grind!"
"Oh? Why didn’t you say so? Go on then? What is it?"
Ries made a circle with her thumb and index finger, "Credits, Boss. Credits. Lots and lots of Credits~"
Of course... Should have expected this game to be pay to win...
I groaned, "I don’t suppose we can just fly another ship to beat him with it? That should also work right? After all, we’re just here to use that to kickstart that streaming channel?"
Ries wagged her finger at me, "It’s not that simple Boss! If we use a different ship, people are going to think that it’s the ship that allowed you to beat him even if it’s not true! If we have the same exact ship, people will automatically believe that it’s your skill!"
"They could also think it’s luck though."
"Mmmm~ That’s unavoidable, but if you use a different ship, there would be more people trying to use the excuse of it being a different ship to justify your win instead so we might as well just make sure there isn’t any doubt."
"Great... Alright... How do we earn money in this game?"
"It’s actually the same as real life, Boss! We can go sign up as a Merc and then do Merc hustles to earn money! Or we can also go the trader or miner route too. That gives less money but it’s more stable I guess."
I sucked in a breath, "Ries... We’re already doing that in real life... Why are we doing this in the game too?"
Before Ries could answer, there was a sudden glitch in the space beside us which made me jump a little in surprise before I backed away from it, right as the space restored itself.
I looked around and it seemed like only Ries and I saw it as no one else paid us any attention even though I’m pretty sure the others around us were also players and not just NPCs.
"Did you see that?" I asked.
Ries nodded, "Mmm... Yeah, but... I guess that was a system glitch, maybe? From our own machine, maybe?"
I was about to agree with her when the glitch appeared again, this time the glitch remained there like a tear in space with visible digital cubes floating around it.
As I was thinking about touching it, the glitch suddenly reformed itself and warped into the shape of a woman.
A woman with purple hair and wearing a maid uniform...
"Daddy! I’m here!" Renata giggled, running up to hug me.
As soon as she did so, alarms started blaring around me and three digital figures appeared to surround us.
"Anomaly detected. Anomaly detected. Purging," The figures announced monotonously, gathering attention on us.
Renata scowled at them and I could see her eyes flash for a few seconds where what looked like numbers and symbols scrolled through her eyes before she returned to normal.
The three figures halted in their tracks.
"Anomaly... Fixed. Returning to standby mode."
The three figures then disappeared without another word.
The people around us stared at us for a few more seconds before shrugging and going on their way.
Renata turned back to grin at me like nothing happened, "Daddy! I’m here!"
No wait... We’re really just going to pretend that didn’t happen at all?
"Renata, how?" I asked.
She gave me a peace sign, "Ehehehe~ I hacked my way here~ It was my first time though~ But that was fun!"
I blinked at her, "You can do that?"
"Of course, Daddy!"
Oh right... I almost forgot... She basically formed from the remains of a sentient AI as well... Hacking into a game is probably the easiest thing for her or something...
She then looked up at me with a grin, "I heard Daddy needs some money?"
I stared at her for a moment before I felt my hair stand even though this was just my virtual avatar.
"Renata... What are you doing?" I asked, already fearing the answer.
She raised her palm to show a window screen which I realised was an inventory window which showed her own inventory.
At the top left corner was a section that showed how much money she had, the number being a thousand at the moment which was basically our starting funds.
But even as I watched, the number started to glitch out and it started to increase rapidly, gaining more zeroes by the second before it finally stopped at a trillion Credits.
Renata gave me a proud look, "Here you go, Daddy! You can have all my money!!"
I sucked in a breath and turned to look at Ries to see if she had anything to say about this because I’m pretty sure this is going to be a big problem for us.
As though reading my mind, Ries turned to me and gave me a mischievous grin, "It’s only a problem if we get caught, Boss."
...
I guess this beats having to grind for it... Whatever...
At most I could just throw some Credits at the game later to make it look less suspicious. It’s not like I’m dirt poor to begin with anyway and I highly doubt they would make the in-game ship as expensive as the real one.
