What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company? Chapter 874: Yuki’s Plan
Previously on What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?...
A notification arrived the next morning, summoning us to the CEO's office at our convenience.
Mara and Yumiko accompanied me as I went to seek her out, the former tasked with telepathically probing for any hidden intentions or withheld information.
Curiously, Kaito remained silent, offering no contact. I had half-expected him to reach out, perhaps to gauge my allegiance. However, it seemed he prioritized leaving no trace of communication.
Regardless, his motives were of little concern to me; my intention to aid him had vanished.
Upon arriving at her office building, I noticed the guards giving me a wide berth, a stark contrast to their usual demeanor.
It appeared they recognized my involvement in controlling the animals the previous night, now regarding me with the same apprehension they held for those creatures.
This, however, made our journey to the elevator remarkably smooth.
As we exited, the sound of dogs barking drew our attention.
I naturally looked in that direction, anticipating, while Yumiko and Mara did so with visible fear.
Three golden retrievers dashed across the room, halting before me and settling down with wagging tails.
They were utterly adorable!
I couldn't resist kneeling to pet them, offering much-appreciated belly rubs.
"You're quite remarkable, aren't you..." Yuki's voice emerged from the side, the CEO observing the scene from where the dogs had originated.
After a final pat, I stood and faced her. "Um... Hello. You summoned us?"
She nodded. "Yes, let's discuss this seated. And please, don't mind the dogs; feel free to continue petting them."
Oh, she certainly wouldn't retract her offer!
We took our seats opposite her desk, and I resumed petting the dogs as they settled beside me.
So wonderfully fluffy~ Ehehehe~ So soft~
Yuki cleared her throat. "Ahem... As you may have surmised, Kaito was behind last night's attack, despite his attempts to conceal his involvement. His objective was clear: to discredit me by releasing those creatures, hoping the owner of the Pleasure Station would be harmed, thus jeopardizing my contract. Naturally, your intervention thwarted his scheme."
"However, an incident did occur, didn't it? Will the event attendees not hold you accountable?"
She scoffed. "I anticipated his machinations and had informed all guests of a surprise performance. Their attendance implied their consent to be in close proximity with the creatures. Therefore, most believed the escaped beasts were part of the show, though I suspect a few discerned the truth."
I raised an eyebrow. "They actually fell for that?"
"Frankly, I doubt they would have without your assistance. Witnessing someone command all those creatures... It defied all logic, appearing as nothing short of a staged spectacle."
That made sense. It was akin to a zoo escape, but then a stranger appeared, directing the animals like a seasoned performer. It would certainly appear orchestrated.
Still, how could they explain away the thugs who breached the wall and fired into the crowd?
Then again, the swift response from her security likely ensured no guests were harmed, reinforcing the performance narrative.
"So, why summon us? Surely not just to boast about your successful defense?"
She steepled her fingers. "There is much I wish to inquire about... particularly your ability to control so many creatures... though I suspect I won't receive an answer. Thus, I shall state my purpose. While I've neutralized his attempt to disqualify me, this merely prevented my removal from contention. It has not advanced my prospects for the contract, as my actions were perceived as a mere performance."
I queried, raising an eyebrow. "So you wish for us to take action against Kaito, to get him disqualified?"
"Precisely. And I have devised a plan for that very purpose."
"Oh? I thought you would entrust it to us."
"If you possess a superior alternative, I am all ears. However, given his actions last night, I now understand he will resort to any means necessary. I can no longer afford to adhere strictly to the rules."
Considering I was the one who brought a dangerous creature here in the first place, I doubt she was adhering to any rules from the outset. Naturally, I decided to keep that observation to myself.
I gave her a nod. "So, what's your plan?"
"He attacked me first, so naturally, our retaliation will be just as direct. We're going to attack him head-on."
I blinked. "Wait... what? You want us to attack him?"
"Why is that so surprising? You saw him attack me, so why can't I do the same to him? After all, he fired the first shot, and I'm merely returning it."
"And what exactly do you plan to do?"
"You know where his office is, right? Go in there and eliminate him."
I stared at her, then glanced at Yumiko and Mara, who were both giving me identical looks. Turning back to Yuki, I asked,
"You want us to kill him?"
"Was my intention not clear enough?"
Yumiko interjected, "Are you suggesting my Mistress should take the fall for you to eliminate a rival? We aren't going to be your sacrificial pawns."
Yuki waved her hand dismissively. "Goodness, I wouldn't dare attempt something so suicidal. Hear me out. We've demonstrated that we can control most, if not all, of the creatures in my collection, correct? To the public, at least, it would appear that all the creatures that escaped during the exhibition were successfully contained."
Yumiko frowned. "You're not planning to use them to attack that man, surely?"
"No, that would be far too obvious. They would immediately suspect me. I can't use any creature that was part of the exhibition."
"So you genuinely intend to use a creature to assassinate him?" I inquired.
"Precisely. I'll be upfront: another delivery is arriving soon, also smuggled in, and it will include a dog. My scheme is to make it appear as though Kaito, envious of my exhibition, decided to start his own and acquired a dog. Then, he loses control, and that dog proceeds to slaughter his entire company. I will then step in with a skilled Biotamer Mercenary, who will help me subdue the beast and prevent further harm to the Pleasure Station. With Kaito out of the picture, nothing will stand between me and that contract."
She paused, then pointed a finger at me. "Your task is to get that creature inside and ensure it ruthlessly slaughters everyone."
...
"You are quite the cunning woman..." I remarked.
She scoffed. "I'll gladly accept that as a compliment. Did you truly believe I reached this position through honorable means?"
"Fair enough... What kind of dog is it that you're smuggling?"
"What do you mean? It's a dog. What else could it be?"
"I meant, what breed is it?"
She paused. "I'm not certain. I only know it's not a breed I can control," she shrugged, gesturing towards the golden retrievers I was still petting.
"When will it arrive?" I asked.
"Tonight at the earliest, but no later than three days from now."
"Fine... I suppose I'll agree. I can handle this task for you."
"Don't worry. Once you've completed it, I'll have a suitable reward for you."
"Well... putting that aside for now... could you tell me what you know about someone named Vieretha Iceborn?"
It seemed prudent to ascertain her knowledge on the matter.
