What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company? Chapter 835: We Can Use Them
Previously on What Do You Mean I'm The Captain Of A Yandere Mercenary Company?...
I fixed my gaze on the lifeless corpse, taking a moment to let my mind catch up with the shocking event.
Glancing around, nobody seemed fazed by the killing at all; a few turned away in revulsion from the corpse, but that was the only response to a man dying right before their eyes.
Alright... So getting gunned down here is no big deal? Or maybe it's just the situation?
Even so... All I could think was how much of a waste it was for that guy to die so easily... That fate felt way too merciful.
The moment that thought crossed my mind, a team rushed up with a stretcher-like device, injecting the body with something before foaming over the bullet wound to seal it.
Not a soul halted them as they hoisted the body onto the stretcher and hauled it away in silence.
Rosalia then faced the remaining thieves frozen in place, none of them displaying any shock over what unfolded.
"Who damaged the ship?! No... Whose idea was it to tear up the ship?!"
To my surprise, one stepped up—a female researcher among them.
Rosalia snarled at her, "Karen? I expected better from you. Just standing there is a fucking disgrace already, and you thought wrecking what could be the last Verlandi was brilliant... Got anything to say for yourself?"
The woman, aptly dubbed Karen, stuttered, "I... I did not wan--"
Rosalia cut her off mid-sentence, blasting a shot from her pistol straight into her fellow researcher's gut.
The researcher screamed and collapsed to her knees, hands pressing against her belly.
Oddly, she didn't panic over the injury; instead, she seized Rosalia's legs and begged desperately.
"Please! No!! Don’t turn me!! I am sorry!! I will do anything!! I’m not even the leader of this!! I just did what I had to to--"
Without hesitation, Rosalia fired into the side of her head, the body slumping to the floor with a dull thump.
Yet another crew dashed in to repeat the procedure on the first victim exactly.
They sealed the abdominal wound too before carting her off, and Rosalia shifted her focus back to me.
Gone was the bubbly, energetic bunny futa I knew; she stood deadly serious and calm, as if she'd swapped souls with Freiderike.
Not that Freiderike had begun bouncing around like Rosalia, of course...
"Miss Tera... What do you wish to do with the other thieves? Since you are the wronged party, we will let you decide their fates."
Truth be told... I'm more intrigued by what happened to those two hauled away... Where'd they go? Cremation? Or quick removal to avoid contaminating the station?
And why'd Karen beg not to be 'turned' instead of 'killed'? That makes zero sense...
However... I chose to hold that question until away from the staff and simply nodded to Rosalia.
"What would be the normal course of action to take if left in the company’s hands?"
She replied instantly, "In this case, their employment with us would be terminated and all of their assets would be taken away to pay for the damages that they have caused before being banished to the Outer Colonies."
Wow, for this alone? If my ship were ordinary and not the Verlandi, they'd likely just cover repairs and call it even.
But exile from the Inner Colonies? That's basically sentencing them to death.
And frankly... That's far too lenient a punishment.
I mean... They'd just perish in some gutter and their misery ends. How's that fitting?
That's precisely why...
I held up a hand for Rosalia to hold on while I pulled up my Codex to contact Ries.
Yet before pressing call, I scanned the onlookers, "Do they all need to be here?"
Friederike whipped around to them, "Don’t you all have work to do?! If you aren’t needed here, get back to your stations!!"
The group thinned out reluctantly, compelled by their superior's command despite their reluctance.
A handful lingered at a distance, out of hearing range—security personnel and stretcher bearers like those who removed the bodies.
With the extras cleared, I hit the call button for Ries.
She picked up after one ring, my Maochatte appearing grave in her ship workshop.
Ries was likely the most furious about the thieves. She'd opposed letting them take the ship initially, foreseeing the damage they'd cause.
But the chance to overhaul and upgrade it with endless resources flipped her opinion fast.
Truthfully, the ship's uniqueness wasn't its decor, so redoing the insides posed no issue if the layout remained.
We could swap bedframes and mattresses without a fuss.
Save perhaps for obsessive fans of the pristine model.
We prioritize function over form, treating the ship as a working vessel, not a display relic.
Any post-repair differences from the original? Irrelevant.
Should we desire restoration, Renata holds full original specs and could remake every part needed.
I heaved a theatrical sigh, "Give me the news, Ries..."
She paused briefly before sighing too, "It’s going to be expensive, Boss... The parts that need to be replaced... I don’t think they’re in production anymore... Which means we would need to make them from scratch... And the damaged parts... I think it would be easier to just replace them at this point and that’s also going to be expensive..."
"I see... But it’s at least possible to repair it, right?"
"It’s going to take a while, Boss... Especially if I had to get all the materials to fabricate the replacement parts... I don’t know how long this will take... The current fabricators I have also aren’t good enough to make the materials I need... The ship might not be usable for a while..."
Suddenly, Theresa interjected, "The company will pay and arrange for everything you need, Miss Tera!! Just let us know what you need and we will obtain it for you!"
Music to my ears, indeed.
I gave Theresa a grateful nod before facing Ries again, masking my excitement behind a neutral expression.
"Did you hear that, Ries? Would that help?"
Her hands clapped together eagerly, "That would definitely help, Boss! But... Ah... I also need some manpower to help work on making the materials I need... But it’s a delicate and rather dangerous process so... Perhaps some manpower will help?"
Hmm? This wasn't in the original scheme, but I caught her hint clearly.
I turned to Rosalia with a nod, "I don’t suppose we can put these people to work?"
The bunny futa bobbed her head at once, "Use them however you like. We will also be putting the debt on them as well to pay off. Feel free to work them to death as well if it suits you, Miss Tera."
Whoa... That's pretty brutal, huh?
Still, looks like we've achieved everything we set out to do here.
