Xiao Mo returned to the Zhou Kingdom, plagued by thoughts of Jiang Qingyi and the reality of the Book of a Hundred Lives. He solidified an alliance with the Four Seas and received gifts from the Confucian Academy. Jiang Qingyi reappeared, challenging Xiao Mo to a duel and reclaiming her title as National Preceptor. Meanwhile, Yu Yunwei and a child named Xue Kui arrived in the capital with a mission to steal someone from the palace.

"Wow! Such a huge palace!"

Xue Kui raised her head, looking at the enormous palace in the distance, her large, luminous eyes lighting up brightly!

"It really is quite large. After all, it's a dynasty's ruler's residence. Even a small kingdom would surely maintain a certain grandeur." Yu Yunwei nodded.

"So Sister Yu, how do we get inside?" Xue Kui tilted her head, asking with puzzlement.

"Isn't that simple enough? We'll just walk through the front gate, naturally." Yu Yunwei smiled, striding forward.

"Huh?"

Xue Kui did not quite understand for a moment, but followed along behind Sister Yunwei regardless.

"Halt! This is the heart of the imperial palace. What business do you two have here?"

The soldiers guarding the palace gate crossed their spears, blocking their path.

Seeing these two fierce-looking soldiers, Xue Kui jumped in fright, hurriedly hiding behind Sister Yu.

"I ask that the two of you show some kindness. I have family within the palace, and I wish to see them..." Yu Yunwei's voice carried a note of anxious unease, as though on the verge of tears.

"Family? What family? I don't know who miss is referring to..."

Just as the two gate guards began to soften, their eyes suddenly lost all color, their vacant gazes as though under someone's control.

"So miss is here to find family within the palace." One soldier said blankly, like a wooden puppet. "Finding family is far more important. Please, go on in, both of you."

With these words, the two of them stepped aside.

"My thanks to you both."

Yu Yunwei wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes, leading Xue Kui's small hand inside.

The instant Yu Yunwei stepped into the palace, she channeled the Illusion Heaven Art, applying it upon herself and Xue Kui both. This so-called Illusion Heaven Art was not merely an illusion technique.

It also possessed the ability to alter one's appearance, conceal one's fate, evade spiritual detection, and avoid formation array scrying.

Xue Kui had never expected that she would manage to enter alongside Sister Yu so smoothly.

Xue Kui looked left and right.

She found everything within the palace utterly fascinating.

Before long, the two of them encountered a palace maid.

Yu Yunwei stepped forward directly, using the Illusion Heaven Art to bring her under control, speaking slowly: "Take me to your quarters."

"Yes." The palace maid turned blankly, leading Yu Yunwei to the room where the palace maids resided.

Within the room, Yu Yunwei took one of the maid's uniforms, putting it on herself, and altered another one to fit Xue Kui, dressing her in it as well.

Xue Kui looked at the small maid's uniform on herself, spinning around happily twice, feeling everything quite novel.

"Where is His Majesty?"

Yu Yunwei continued asking the maid.

"His Majesty just finished practicing his sword at the Dao Inquiry Platform. He should be in the imperial study now, reviewing memorials." The maid answered honestly.

"How do I get to the imperial study?" Yu Yunwei asked again.

"Go out this door, walk straight to the left, and when you reach a crossroads, turn right, and when you reach a fork..." The maid explained the route to the imperial study in detail.

"I understand." Yu Yunwei committed it to memory. "Go about your business now. You've never seen me. Understood?"

"Yes."

The maid nodded, walking out of the room.

"Let's go too." Yu Yunwei said to Xue Kui.

"Okay! Sister Yu!" Xue Kui felt a small thrill of excitement.

She found sneaking into someone else's home rather exhilarating.

"Speaking of which, Sister Yu, once we find Brother Xiao Mo, what do we do then?"

Walking along the path to the imperial study, Xue Kui glanced curiously at Sister Yu.

"Silly girl." Yu Yunwei rubbed her small head. "Once we find him, we simply take him away. What's there to figure out?"

To Yu Yunwei's mind, such a small kingdom, even with its palace elders, surely had no cultivator above the Golden Core realm at best.

Taking away a single person would hardly be difficult.

In fact, should she wish it, never mind taking away the Zhou Kingdom's ruler, wiping out the entire kingdom would pose no problem at all but truthfully, there was something Yu Yunwei genuinely could not understand: that shameless Sili was also at the Immortal realm, and taking Senior Brother away should have been effortless for her as well. Why hadn't she simply taken him away directly?

And if she had taken Senior Brother away herself, she could have stolen a little taste for herself too, without anyone noticing.

"Never mind, it doesn't matter. As long as I steal Senior Brother back, that's what counts."

Yu Yunwei shook her head, no longer dwelling on it and just as Yu Yunwei made her way to the imperial study.

At the front courtyard of Ning Xue Palace.

Yan Ruxue rolled up her sleeve, slowly pouring a cup of tea for the woman beside her, “How unusual, that Siyao would come find me today."

"Sister Ruxue, don't say that. Little sister lives not far from you, Sister Ruxue, it's simply that I've been cultivating within my own courtyard, and so haven't visited you as often." Qin Siyao said with a smile. "In truth, I've always wanted to chat with you more, Sister."

"Ha ha ha..." Yan Ruxue smiled gently. "There's no need for Siyao to beat around the bush like this. Whatever it is, just say it plainly. It's only the two of us here now."

"There's nothing much, really." Qin Siyao's eyes curved into a smile. "In truth, little sister is simply curious about something."

"Curious?" Yan Ruxue asked, puzzled.

"Yes." Qin Siyao nodded. "Sister Ruxue, your cultivation level must be merely a single step away from that legendary third realm, mustn't it? Throughout this entire world today, there's almost no one whose cultivation surpasses yours, and perhaps only two or three who rival it."

"And Sister, you found His Majesty so long ago. If you truly wished to take Imperial Brother away, who could possibly stop you?"

"After taking him, you could do whatever you wished with Imperial Brother. So why, Sister, did you still bother reaching that pointless agreement with us beforehand?"

Qin Siyao's eyes blinked.

"Sister, are you worried about something?"

"It's nothing, just something rather intangible." Yan Ruxue raised her head, gazing up at the sky. "Siyao, you've lived longer than I have, and know no fewer secrets than I do. You surely know of those beings from the ancient era, don't you?"

Hearing Yan Ruxue's words, Qin Siyao's brow furrowed. She understood Yan Ruxue's meaning, yet still shook her head, “Those ancient divine spirits are all dead. That much is beyond dispute."

"Are they truly all 'dead,' though?"

Yan Ruxue looked at Qin Siyao with a smile.

"A Nascent Soul realm cultivator, so long as their soul remains undestroyed, can reshape their physical body, and even should they not survive within this world, they can still be reincarnated."

"Miss Siyao, you possess a body that comprehends all of ancient knowledge from birth, simply walking the path of cultivation once more."

"And the ancient divine spirits were born of heaven and earth itself, governing the various laws of this world. How could they compare to a mere Nascent Soul realm cultivator, or even to you, Siyao?"

"Even should the myriad races have won that ancient war against the gods, and gained their freedom, were those divine spirits truly so easily destroyed?"

"When the Lord of Tianji City, on the brink of death, calculated that a vast, world-shaking calamity would come upon this world, who could say what it truly was?"

Qin Siyao lowered her lovely head slightly, falling silent.

After some thought, Qin Siyao shook her head, “Even if some remnant divine spirits still live, what connection could that possibly have to Imperial Brother?"

"I too am searching for the answer..."

Yan Ruxue shook her head, a flicker of confusion showing in her own eyes as well.

"In truth, I too wish to know..."

Why he had come to be marked by the divine spirits.

"All right."

Qin Siyao let out a sigh, her tone carrying a note of helplessness. She understood that it was not that Yan Ruxue was unwilling to say more.

Rather, in her own heart, she remained uncertain of her own speculations.

"As for this so-called vast, world-shaking calamity of heaven and earth, I don't particularly care about it. I only care about what's happening right now."

Qin Siyao smiled, looking at Yan Ruxue.

"Our own Ten Thousand Swords Sect master has already shown herself to Imperial Brother, in her true face. Though Sect Master Jiang remains rather awkward about it, she'll surely take action before long. Isn't Sister Ruxue worried about this at all?"

Yan Ruxue covered her mouth, laughing gently, “Rather than worrying about that, Siyao might do better to worry about that woman who just entered the palace. She's currently making her way toward His Majesty."

Hearing Yan Ruxue's words, Qin Siyao froze slightly, her spiritual consciousness immediately spreading out toward the area around the imperial study.

"Heh... just a stray cat sneaking around, that's all." Qin Siyao smiled. "Though, even a cat needs a little discipline, or else even cats will start running wild without any restraint."

The moment Qin Siyao's words fell, her figure had already vanished from the courtyard but her voice still drifted on the wind into Yan Ruxue's ears.

"Little sister will take her leave now. I'll come visit you again another day, Sister."

…

"This should be the place." Before the doors of the imperial study, Yu Yunwei stopped.

Looking at these tightly closed doors, thinking of how her senior brother, whom she had searched for over a thousand years, day and night, longing for him, was right there inside.

Yu Yunwei could not help but clench her fingers, her heart racing faster and faster.

"Sister Yu?"

Xue Kui raised her head, looking at Yu Yunwei beside her, calling out softly.

"It's all right." Yu Yunwei drew a deep breath, knocking on the door. "Your Majesty, this servant has brought you tea."

"Come in."

Xiao Mo's voice came from within the imperial study.

Hearing this familiar yet unfamiliar voice, Yu Yunwei's eyes could not help but tremble but Yu Yunwei quickly settled herself, pushing open the door and walking inside.

Stepping into the imperial study, what met Yu Yunwei's eyes was a man dressed in a dragon robe, seated at his desk, earnestly reviewing memorials.

Watching his focused expression, Yu Yunwei's own mind grew increasingly hazy with emotion.

Senior brother, holding a ruler, teaching her to read.

Senior brother, wielding his long blade, standing alone against several sects, one against thousands.

Senior brother's retreating figure, as he departed for battle that final time.

Every one of these scenes rose up within Yu Yunwei's mind at once.

"Senior brother..."

Yu Yunwei called out softly, feeling as though she were caught in a dream.

"Just leave the tea by the desk. I'll pour it myself later."

Xiao Mo, deeply absorbed in reviewing memorials, had not heard Yu Yunwei's soft call, not even raising his head.

"Yes."

Yu Yunwei walked to Xiao Mo's side, simply gazing at him quietly.

"Is there something else?" Xiao Mo, sensing the maid beside him had not left, raised his head to look. "Weren't you bringing tea? Where's the tea?"

"This servant forgot, but this servant has something even better than tea for you."

The moment Yu Yunwei's words fell, patterns of Dao rose within her eyes.

"Not good!"

Xiao Mo sensed danger at once! He knew this was no palace maid.

Xiao Mo could not understand how the other party had managed to enter the palace!

Xiao Mo tried to resist, but found himself utterly unable to move, his own consciousness growing hazier by the moment.

In less than three breaths' time, Xiao Mo's eyes lost all color, sitting blankly upon his couch like a wooden puppet.

"Senior brother, Yunwei has finally found you."

Having fully brought Xiao Mo under her control, Yu Yunwei spread her arms, pulling his head tightly against her soft, full chest.

"Don't be afraid, senior brother. We'll be home soon. Though Yunwei knows this is rather reckless of her, once we're back, Yunwei will explain everything clearly to you." Yu Yunwei gently stroked Xiao Mo's hair, as though cradling an infant.

Yu Yunwei even felt that having senior brother at such a low cultivation level right now wasn't so bad after all.

At least, whatever she wanted to do to senior brother, he had no way to resist.

Once they returned home, the very first thing she would do was hold a proper wedding ceremony with senior brother, and give him a few plump, healthy sons first thing.

Xue Kui, standing nearby, did not understand why Sister Yu was holding this big brother so long but it seemed... Sister Yu's heart was rather excited and thrilled?

"Senior brother, let's go now. Time to go home." Kissing Xiao Mo's forehead, Yu Yunwei said to him.

"All right."

Xiao Mo, under her control, nodded, rising to his feet, but just as Yu Yunwei led Xiao Mo out through the doors of the imperial study.

Standing in the plaza before the imperial study was a woman dressed in palace robes.

Qin Siyao stood with her hands folded before her, appearing gracefully composed, gentle and virtuous, but the spiritual pressure radiating from her left Yu Yunwei breaking out in a cold sweat.

"That miss snuck secretly into my Great Zhou palace, fine, I'll let that pass."

Qin Siyao spoke slowly, her smile still remarkably sweet.

"I simply wonder, where does miss intend to take this concubine's husband?"

At the same time, within the harem.

Sili, having a rare moment of leisure, was sharing tea with Ning Wei.

"Sister Sili, when do you think Sister Yu will arrive?"

Ning Wei asked, stretching her long legs.

"Should be soon." Sili thought for a moment. "The sect master should have received my letter by now. Counting the time, she should be nearly at the capital."

"Once the sect master arrives, how are we going to take Brother Xiao Mo away?"

Ning Wei pouted.

For the moment, she felt that taking Brother Xiao Mo away seemed nearly impossible, with far too many eyes watching.

Ning Wei, too, could not fathom why Brother Xiao Mo had attracted the attention of so many Ascension realm cultivators...

"Well, actually, it's not too difficult. I have a jade pendant with me, obtained during my own training journey, capable of breaking through the void, silently spiriting the young master away. But I can't activate it alone. I need the sect master's help."

Sili had already worked this out in her mind.

Once the sect master arrived, found her, and the two of them activated the jade pendant together, breaking through the void, they could take Young Master Xiao to the Western Region.

"Sister Sili, did you tell the sect master that the two consorts in the palace aren't ordinary women?" Ning Wei asked again. "Sister Yu has always looked down on worldly kingdoms. Wouldn't she just barge in carelessly, and get noticed by someone?"

"I didn't mention that, actually."

Sili shook her head.

"But rest assured, the sect master is fairly careful in her actions. The first thing she does upon entering the palace should be to find us."

As she spoke, Sili's tone carried a certain note of doubt.

"She should... probably..."
