Versatile Mage Chapter 3167 Mo Fan in That Other World

Previously on Versatile Mage...
Mo Fan awakened to an empty room, feeling a mix of disappointment and hunger. After a lavish yet unappealing lunch, he confronted a young servant with an attitude, making her wash his dirty clothes as a lesson in humility. Later, while exploring the Parthenon Temple, he reunited with Ye Xinxia, who revealed that Wang Xiaojun, thought to be lost, was in a crystal coffin, his condition improving. Hope surged when Mo Fan offered a mysterious spore to aid in awakening Wang Xiaojun’s consciousness, leading to an emotional reunion filled with unanswered questions about the years lost.

"Let him spend some time with the Gray Eagle," Mo Fan suggested to Ye Xinxia.

Ye Xinxia gave a small nod. Regardless of the circumstances, they had fulfilled the Gray Eagle's deepest desire by saving its master.

"The teleportation portal you opened is beginning to fade," Ye Xinxia noted, gesturing toward the fractured space behind them.

In the square, a crowd of inquisitive onlookers had gathered around the gateway Mo Fan had summoned.

Through the shimmering rift, a magnificent coastal cliff was visible. It was a picturesque scene where ancient, lush pines met a sapphire sea and vibrant summer blossoms, creating a breathtaking landscape.

A few adventurous individuals crossed over, immediately greeted by the refreshing fragrance of pine needles, flowers, and the salty ocean breeze. For those used to the cramped city, the atmosphere brought instant joy and relaxation.

Once it was clear there was no danger, more people began stepping through the rift. Before long, a group that had intended to practice their square dancing found themselves standing atop the white cliffs of the Parthenon Temple’s western hill.

Mo Fan and Ye Xinxia followed through the portal, only to find a crowd of people had essentially migrated to the other side of the planet.

Unfortunately, Mo Fan’s magic wasn't designed for permanent transit. The gateway wouldn't stay open much longer, leaving these people stranded.

"Oh no, the path is closing!"

"Wait, where exactly are we?"

"This place is stunning, but how do we get home?"

As the portal dissolved, roughly forty to fifty people were left standing on the Parthenon Temple’s white cliffs, looking around in confusion.

Mo Fan felt a headache coming on. Maintaining a long-distance portal indefinitely was beyond his current power. Furthermore, his control wasn't perfect; if he had accidentally dropped them in a monster-infested wilderness, they would have been in grave peril.

"Hey, you're Mo Fan, right? You need to send us back immediately. My child has school in the morning," an older woman demanded, her voice laced with anxiety.

"Ma'am, why did you even walk through it? A magical portal isn't just some random doorway you should wander into," Mo Fan countered.

"I don't care about that. It's reckless for a mage to just cast spells in public. You're responsible for this," the woman insisted stubbornly.

"Fine, fine. I’ll get you all home. But I need a few days to recover my energy before I can open another long-distance gate. I can either pay for your flights back, or you can stay here for a bit and I'll teleport you in three days," Mo Fan said, sighing in defeat.

"Since you've already made it here, why not enjoy a short vacation? I will arrange for a guide from the Parthenon Temple to assist you. I'll cover your rooms, meals, and sightseeing. What do you think?" Ye Xinxia interjected. She knew they couldn't simply abandon the residents of Song City, so she offered them a luxury stay.

Upon realizing they were at the Parthenon Temple—a legendary site of European coastal beauty—the crowd’s mood shifted to excitement. Knowing Ye Xinxia was footing the bill made the offer irresistible, even for those with busy schedules.

"That sounds amazing!"

"I'm definitely taking a few days off for this!"

"We're so lucky; getting into the Parthenon Temple isn't something just anyone can do."

The group reached a quick consensus. Everyone was eager to spend a few days enjoying the scenery.

To be honest, none of them had expected a casual walk to lead to a world-class European temple. Work? School? It didn't matter. A short absence wouldn't cause their worlds to collapse.

Furthermore, given Ye Xinxia’s high status, the accommodations would be fit for royalty. As commoners, this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

"Enjoy yourselves, everyone!" Mo Fan said, waving them off.

"We have Ye Xinxia to thank for this. Mo Fan really can't compare to her."

"She truly is the Goddess, the very soul of White Magic."

"She is the pride of our Song Institute."

The people from Song City treated Mo Fan like one of their own, which meant they didn't hesitate to scold him or hold him to account.

Mo Fan didn't dare argue. He just smiled and said goodbye, finally letting out a sigh of relief once they were gone.

It was no wonder that a Forbidden Curse shouldn't be used lightly.

His attempt at long-distance teleportation had certainly caused its fair share of chaos.

...

Ye Xinxia finally managed to secure a day of rest.

Having grown tired of the formal atmosphere of the temple, she expressed a desire to go shopping.

While Mo Fan wasn't a fan of browsing shops, he was happy to accompany her and follow her lead. He wanted her to be happy; otherwise, he might find himself sleeping alone that night.

While walking down a busy street, they stepped into a shop where Mo Fan immediately spotted a few women from Song City haggling with a clerk at the counter.

These women were master negotiators. They managed to talk the employee—who usually never gave discounts—into throwing in several free gifts with their purchase.

Mo Fan and Ye Xinxia quickly ducked out and headed to a different store to avoid being spotted.

Ye Xinxia had swapped her regal temple robes for a knitted headscarf and small spectacles. In this stylish, youthful outfit, very few people would ever guess she was the revered Goddess of the Parthenon Temple.

She was in high spirits, animatedly telling Mo Fan about the interesting things she had encountered recently.

Seeing her so happy made Mo Fan feel at ease. Often, when people rise to high positions, their personalities warp or change entirely.

Mo Fan had been concerned about this, but fortunately, Ye Xinxia remained herself.

Perhaps as long as he stayed by her side, she would always be that sweet girl next door he had always protected.

"Does this look good on me?"

"The seller probably got that from a wholesale market..."

"Huh?" Ye Xinxia immediately took the item off. She suddenly felt a pang of regret about having to return to the Parthenon Temple so soon.

If they were still in Song City, they could have stayed for a few more days.

However, she had duties to attend to, and she would have to wait for her next annual break to visit Song City again.

"I have an idea. When my Space Element reaches the Forbidden Curse level, I'll set up a personal portal for you. You can take off your goddess robes, put on a normal dress, and step through the rift straight into Song City. It'll be quicker than taking a bus or the subway. Whenever you want to shop, you can just walk out of your old apartment complex. There will be plenty of trendy things to pick from every day." Mo Fan suggested enthusiastically.

"Can you actually achieve that?" Ye Xinxia asked, her eyes wide. It reminded her of the grand promises Mo Fan used to make when they were kids.

In their youth, Mo Fan would say such things just to make her smile, even if they were impossible.

Yet, if even one of those dreams came true, Ye Xinxia would cherish it for a long time.

"We can certainly try. The world is full of enigmas, and even at the peak of a Forbidden Curse, there are things we don't fully understand. But a stable portal isn't out of the question," Mo Fan said with conviction.

"Okay. If I could return home every evening after my duties and see the people dancing in the square in Song City, I would be truly happy," Ye Xinxia admitted.

Having been raised in China, she felt a deep connection to Song City, despite her lofty role as the Goddess. She loved the simple, carefree spirit of the people there.

"The biggest hurdles are the required space energy and the stability of the rift. We won't rush it. Once I master it, I'll be able to pick you up from work every single day," Mo Fan promised.

The journey of cultivation was arduous. No matter how much power one gained, its true purpose was to serve people and improve daily life.

Mo Fan realized that the peace he had been seeking was already right here.

The burden of protection rested on his generation's shoulders. Even while staying alert, there was a need to appreciate life. It felt like a return to the days in Seal City, where his only real task was walking Ye Xinxia home from school.

Seal City might be gone, but the people and the bonds between them remained unchanged.

"Mo Fan, you used to joke about what a world without magic would be like. So... what would we be doing there? Would we still be together like this?" Ye Xinxia turned to him and asked curiously.

Mo Fan felt a sudden jolt of nervousness at the question.

Did she figure out that I transmigrated?

"Ahem. What makes you ask that all of a sudden?" Mo Fan asked, trying to stay calm.

"I'm just wondering. If magic didn't exist, would there be no demons or wars? Would the world be more peaceful? Would Sects and factions still send their youth into combat? Would young people just have normal jobs, or would they still have to defend their homes constantly?" Ye Xinxia mused.

As the Goddess, she was well aware of the world's cruelty. She knew some evils were ingrained. Staying in power too long could easily change a person. She had to fight to keep her heart pure. But even if she succeeded, how could she ensure that those who followed her would do the same?

Ye Xinxia knew Mo Fan would always back her up. But how would future leaders of the Parthenon Temple fare against such overwhelming forces?

Mo Fan thought for a moment before answering, "It’s really all the same."

"All the same?" Ye Xinxia asked, looking puzzled.

Without magic or monsters, where would the fighting come from?

"I don't know how far humanity will advance, but even without magic and demons, conflict is constant. When there are no actual demons, some people and nations become the demons themselves. The best we can do is look after our own," Mo Fan explained.

"Oh... then I suppose I'll start praying for the people in that world too," Ye Xinxia said softly.

Mo Fan was momentarily stunned by her compassion. He reached out, gently patting her head.

Ye Xinxia was like many kind-hearted girls who, as children, wished for world peace. However, very few kept that wish in their hearts as they grew up.

"Little girl, you just focus on making the wishes. Don't worry about how they get fulfilled. People like us will take care of the hard part," Mo Fan said with a warm smile.

Ye Xinxia playfully stuck out her tongue. She wasn't just wishing; she was working toward it too.

Mo Fan gazed up at the sky. He had almost forgotten his origins in another world.

There was no going back now. He wondered if his counterpart in that other dimension was also fighting hard to hold a broken world together with sheer will and effort.
